We bought dross like Vestergaard - it was neither a punt or a just going and buying a proven plug and play upgrade. Lazily recruiting Martyn Glover because our DoF is literally the bottom 1/x exacerbated this, not riding our winners again in recruiting from Ligue 1 or 2 but stupidly going down the the PL route like with the Perez deal was the problem. We could have signed upwardly mobile players, it’s easy to say in hindsight now (but would have been sensible then) we didn’t about £5m more on Ghezzal the summer after Raphinha scored ~15 goals for Vitoria Guimaraes. We were just dumb, we chose this because our eminence grise doesn’t know his arse from his elbow across Top and Vichai’s tenure. We just stopped making sensible transfer decisions after Macia left

We never spent a too much on transfer fees relatively - it was our stupid wage management that killed us, we flew in the face of the rules anyway so they’re not the reason for our downfall. If we’d stuck by them we might still be a PL club.

There’s diminishing returns to this stuff, Brian Johnson, Steven Bartlett and co ruin their own days as soon as they wake up and notice they’ve only had an 82% optimal night’s sleep. Without checking they’d have been fine, it’s a negative feedback loop that’s set in motion somewhat arbitrarily from an app. Making decent choices the majority of the time and letting loose for the remaining is a healthy balance - optimising every last aspect of life is completely neurotic.

He’s had a very good game but let’s not get ahead of ourselves… up to now the strikers have been starved of service and one swallow doesn’t make a summer. So far he’s scored twice from 0.7 xG - we need to create far more in the 6 yard box for both him and Bristric.

It’s not a surprise but it’s still odd, to be any good our academy players have to be our best players and make no mistakes ever - meanwhile the average players get to plod along

He was in the L2 Team of the season - clearly too good for that level. We’ve seen him have brilliant games at L1, he has his first rocky spell at a disparate club and some are quick to jump on his back - it’s odd. He’s still ahead of my expectations for the season. Even seasoned pros in much better teams have bad games!

No I won’t - he’s a terrible manager and a total demagogue, he’s vain, incompetent, conceited. The future of the club hinges on going up and we absolutely won’t whilst he fails again with his proven failure methods. I can’t believe how relaxed some are, we got smacked 4-0 at home to Oxford. Puel was a shit manager but he was hounded more than several much worse managers have been since.

I don’t think it’s Machiavellian - it’s just how they work, slow, delusional, aloof. They don’t put enough effort in to elaborately tie fan engagement up so it’s just them getting round to things lazily. There’s nobody driving anything day to day, just people happy to be there or part of the furniture. A proper, experienced ’football’ chief exec would go a long way.

The recent batch of Americans have tended to be pretty good e.g Bournemouth, Birmingham and one of Wrexham's owners. East Asian owners have historically been quite poor with Vichiai being the exception and Carson Yeung, Jeff Shi, Top, Vincent Tan and Chansiri being poor. Arabs have been a mixed bag, huge success with PSG and Man City but Sheff United have been all over the placed and Fawaz was inept. There's exceptions of course but the business and sporting culture of the nations producing billionaire football club owners naturally has an impact on their style. It's not randomised.

An American I think. I maintain that a multi-club group would be keen e.g they already know how to operate two clubs so with Leuven thrown in - it's a much rarer opportunity. The Joe Manceuto link made sense.
