  1. I think it all contributed to the relegation. It wasnt just lack of signings, we pretty much had a freeze on contract renewals as well. Many people think we would have stayed up if Kasper stayed.
  2. Then if people cant get round that risk (which I think is much smaller than external debt), then the best outcome is probably fixed cap, alongside a external debt provision, so if external debt is above a threshold you not allowed to spend up to the fixed rate cap, is a lower limit to get the debt down. Problem is if you have an internal debt provision, we in the same position as today, linking it to the size of the club and locking the status quo in place. A fixed cap could be set at a level where most clubs in the division could spend that much with small losses.
  3. One of two extremes, either a "fixed" cap that has no link to revenue. Or a free market. Allowing wealthy owners to compete. Perhaps one linked with external debt as a means to try and keep clubs solvent. (debt to owner ok).
  4. Yeah but which is the bigger penalty? Relegation by not investing in squad, or a points penalty whilst staying up.
  5. It will likely be worth it, as they will still stay up with a 12 point penalty this season. A proper penalty perhaps would be what happened in rugby, just force relegation. Otherwise those that comply end up being the muppets crippling themselves.
  6. Next season would be far better as the league will be stronger and we will probably be there, but I expect if it happens it will be this season as the EPL is trying to put these penalties in during a season where it wont affect who is relegated.
  7. These kind of things are just plain sick, there is no excuse for the behaviour. It says a lot about the mentality of some football supporters, when they make comments like "over reacting". The game needs to kick these kind of fans out, as its just atrocious behaviour. Who in their right mind wakes up and decides to mock the dead. I just dont understand the thought process of such an individual.
  8. Yep we not good without Ndidi, Daka also seems to improve overall forward play as well.
  9. I always felt this month will be a rough patch for us, we simply are a worse team without Ndidi and also missing Daka.
  10. Mentality was all wrong when down to 10 men, doing the not allowed to attack and press thing just because a man down rarely works, and we will be up against this type of play week n in week out in the EPL, so hopefully Enzo learns from it and if we go down to 10 again, play as if we have 11. Enzo isnt the first manager to panic with 10 men and he wont be the last, it seems to be a common trait from managers to just get rid of attacking outlets and pen in. Which probably does more damage than losing the man in the first place.
  11. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12584543/uefas-new-financial-sustainability-regulations-to-replace-ffp-all-you-need-to-know I think if these were in place earlier we would already have fell foul of them.
  12. The point is as you described to maintain the status quo. It isnt just right at the top either. In the championship the parachute clubs have a very clear advantage now. In the EPL its the CL and historically big clubs. In the CL its those with the big coefficient payments. Debt is almost ignored, and caps are revenue based instead of fixed for competitive equality.
  13. Thanks for the explanation, obviously the savings in wages could offset losses on book value, but if this happening frequently for us it perhaps suggests a pattern of us setting book values too high for our players.
  14. True, but I think anything done this January should be to prep for next season now. By next summer I can see us being down to two strikers.
  15. why does he only have 18 months on his contract?
  16. I cant help but feel we will screw this up. Get him out, even for free if needed.
  17. Aside from the line up I expect it was a game where energy usage was kept to a minimal under instruction from the manager.
  18. I havent found confirmation, we may get it on promotion. But it would be a very odd contract that, there would be a reduction if playing in a lower division, and then this reduction is perpetual regardless of division.
  19. I feel like Doyle shouldn't be considered proven EPL quality, he may have a bit more movement than Vesty defensively but his on the ball ability isnt close. Vesty is probably our only true ball playing defender ability wise but of course the concern is with him is his pace. Faes and Justin are probably the only two clear EPL quality defenders we have with both Doyle and Vesty good enough to consider giving them a chance to see if it can be made to work. We probably are going to have to compromise as the finances arent there to give Enzo a full EPL team season one.
  20. Indeed, the relegation clause will almost certainly be reversed on promotion.
  21. The rules are an average over a 3 year period. not per year. In recent EPL seasons our losses have been nothing short of a disaster, horrendous figures. (92 million in 2022, new rules allow approx average 35 per season). Circa 106 million prize money last season. Circa 40 million this season. Another loss of circa 20 million on sponsorship. So down about 85 million in revenue. This loss is reduced to 10 million based on transfer fees. But we did also sign some players so is increased again a bit. Relegation clauses in contracts, exact amount unknown, as well as contracts coming to end mentioned in this thread brings the wage bill down, but it needs to be brought down in excess of 100 million annually from relegation season for sustained FFP compliance. If promoted, our relegation, season, this season, and the first promoted season would perhaps be the first looked at in the EPL. Between all 3 combined permitted losses would be around 83 million. Transfer money for sales like Fofana are down a little due to the pay day loan taken out so interest payments reduce the profit. I have seen claims our wage bill this season is 62 million from low quality sources, last reported annual EPL salary costs were a whopping 182m from high quality sources. Would be great if someone could do the wages maths on all the players no longer in contract from start of next season.
  22. It would need to be a majority cut if we renew. Club just cant afford it now sadly.
  23. How many years does Vardy have left, and yes to be fair thats a quite a list. I think we have almost certainly made a loss this year (bert mentions 75m transfer fees but he has forgot the huge amount of sponsorship and TV loss), and obviously last year was bad, but the 3rd year in the trio next season will be the good one.
  24. If the claims are true we were close to FFP limits, then I dont see why we still wont be close on promotion. The fix is to get any signing on a low wage at least 5-6 years so there is less pressure to award a big wage increase 1-2 years into that contract to get an extension. Our issue was ridiculous wages compared to our income level. I feel Whelan under performed, we won the EPL, were in the CL, and the lack of uplift in revenue from that was horrific from a CEO's performance level. We also not wealthy enough to be able to afford mishit player signings, some of them have been really underwhelming, and have to wonder what was going on in the scouting recruitment area to approve those transfers. With top tier scouting you can create a top ten EPL team with 50m, with junk tier scouting you can spend 200m and get relegated, then not even be good enough to come back up again. Its such an important area.
  25. Sadly the reality will be they get the deductions in probably the safest EPL season for a decade, as all 3 teams who came up have been really poor. Also in both cases a season after when the offences happened.
