It will be the difference between midtable and a genuine promotion push. We can't go as we are this time. There must be a refresh with a handful of players coming in and a few going out.
-
I would still start Mavididi for the time being in the league, but have Monga come on most games around the 60th minute mark . He is seriously good, just needs to develop an end product and what an asset.
-
If you watch him closely when we are in possession, he often moves closer to an opposition player, so that he is not available to receive the ball. He doesn't do this every time, but enough to make me wonder WTF his motivation for doing that is. I just want him out this club forever. I have no idea why Marti is starting him. It is painful to watch.
-
The absolute bare minimum in this window, is to get a Striker and CM in. We actually need 6 IN, 4 OUT, but we really are midtable at best, if we don't at very least sign a starting striker and CM to play alongside Winks.
-
I agree, but I am a bit concerned how he will perform when the window closes and he is still here. Looks like a player who would jump at a move away. We will be in some battles this season, and we really need players who want to fight and dig in and enjoy the club being successful. Marti should have a word with him and start him this weekend, and hopefully we will see him out of this childish sulk and enjoying playing for us again.
-
You can criticise him without writing him off after one poor game. He could be MOTD contender in his next 3 starts. Far too early to say. However, just as with Okoli at the weekend. I have seen enough that I wouldn't start either of them in the league for the time being. As much as I dislike Faes and Vesty. They should be our CB pairing for now. Nelson will get his chance again soon enough.
-
This is why I wanted an arrogant so and so, who would tell Rudkin and Top that he wants these lot gone whether sold or loaned and wants 6 players IN. Just can't help feel that Marti is going to politely work with what he has got and not rock the boat too much, as this is his biggest ever job. Hoped to be proved wrong, as we know that is unlikely to work with this squad of players with lack of quality and poor attitudes scattered throughout. Starting Soumare and Skipp is very concerning. If he does that again in the league, then I will begin to have doubts about his ability.
-
Starting 11 -------------------Jakub------------------ Ricardo--Faes--Vesty--New LB -------------Winks---New CM-------- Fatuwa--------Bilal-------Mavididi -------------------New CF--------------- additional x2 CMs required plus another CB Okoli, Soumare, Skipp sold/loaned out 6 players IN - 3-4 players OUT Feels like that is the best we can achieve in the window, as long as we hold onto players we want to keep and get Winks/Faes out their sulk.
-
It would be in his interest to demand we sell or loan out a number of players, and to give him the opportunity to bring in 4-5 starters in this window. That might be seen as a big job, but it feels like we are a midtable championship club right now with the low quality and attitudes with much of our squad.
-
hmm tough one. He is currently our best CM, and by some margin compared to Soumare, Skipp and Hamza. He has changed the games from the bench both times and looked as good as he did under Maresca in these two appearances. However, he is on a mega sulk right now and that is with a new Manager reset too. I imagine his agent is pushing to get him a move. But, we aren't going to get much money for him and he should be the last CM we sell out of the current lot we have. Marti needs to earn his stripes and get him out of this childish sulk, start him at the weekend and hopefully all is well again. If Marti can't do that, then I don't think I want someone here who has a strong dislike for the club and/or fans, that he can't get over. We would have to roll the dice, ship out Winks, Soumare and Skipp... which is a big job! But don't see much alternative, unless we want a midtable finish at best.

I think some posters get very defensive over our youth players. I am not seeing much joy in simply stating that Nelson is having a mare. Most would much prefer he was doing well. I think there is a counter reaction to the over hyping though, which seems a bit OTT as well. Hope he stays with us this season and gets a handful of starts in the league whilst also starting all our cup games. Tonight will be an important lesson and experience for him. Hope he has a better 2nd half.
-
I don't know what Marti expects when starting Skipp and Soumare together. If he starts them together in the league again, then that is a huge red flag over his ability I think we will win this game, but will come from the bench
-
Cue the extreme views from both sides... I think he is probably our 3rd best CB currently, but has potential to be a lot better. Not having a good game, and Faes and Vesty should be starting in the league for now. Sell Okoli and bring in a 4th choice on loan, with Harry Souttar due back around Christmas to cover injuries/form dips
-
I think Skipp would grow in confidence and be a different player if we all chipped in and got him a hair transplant from Turkey It is clearly bothering our £25million midfield maestro
-
If you watch Soumare when we have possession, he actually closes down a Huddersfield player and makes himself unavailable for a pass
-
Faes and Vesty still our best pairing at this level. I know we all want it to be Nelson +1, but he needs more time.
-
Not in the Championship. He is still ranked as one of the best at this level. If we had better options than Soumare, Skipp, Hamza, then maybe it wouldn't impact us to sell him, but currently, he is our best CM at the club and we are unlikely to get much for him, so why sell.
-
Don't need a winger, especially not an average one. We have Fatuwa/McAteer on the right and Mavididi/Monga on the left We need an actual striker.

I used to love Transfer Talk but can't remember the last time it was anything but depressing.

Where did we get that his release clause ends this week? Reputable? If true, can see it being a Fatuwa situation, with us pricing him out of a move with us factoring in his potential and importance to us, with any valuation to clubs. -

Agreed, but I think his release clause may be a little high for most teams to genuinely consider him at the moment. We know his potential, but he is still raw and a season in the Championship would do him a world of good. Just depends late in the window, if a lower Prem team loses out on some other options and so decide to take a bit of a punt on him and his potential. I think it could really mess with our season, and we would need to get very fortunate with a player or two that we bring in to cover that creativity loss. Hope he stays but does seem like it is 50-50 right now. -
Agree to disagree. I think they are a decent and reliable pairing at this level, but not good enough together for the Premier League. Neither are the best at keeping goals out, but they both excel at this level with the ball, passing and moving it forward, which contributes to our attacks. We are likely to have a lot of possession in most games again this season, and that is where we saw Okoli look wobbly first half, but Faes and Vesty look composed and confident. Nelson could certainly push either of them for a starting spot, but our CB's are the least of our worries in this window. We should focus on midfield and striking options.

I think the Newcastle rumour was put out there by his agent, to try push Leeds or whoever else to make an offer. He isn't good enough (yet) for Newcastle. Hope he stays one more season with us -
£5 million and 50k p/w off the books is worth way less than a promotion back to the Premier League. I don't think we would find an equivalent or better player for less than £5 million He changed the game when he came on at the weekend and looks a top player at this level I would hold onto him this season and try to get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking Will only get harder the longer we are down here. Bouncing straight back is usually the best chance I think there are other areas we could cut, before losing Winks
-
They weren't unreliable under Maresca in a full season in the Championship. I like Nelson a lot but Faes and Vestergaard look very assured on the ball, especially when we have 60-70% possession at this level. I can see Nelson starting a lot of games for us anyway whether through injuries or just pushing one of those two out the 11 for a time.
