The mood would have stayed on a high at least. I think him leaving and Cooper coming in, killed any momentum we had from winning the Championship. The players also went from a style they had bought into, to Cooper ball, which didn't seem to be much of anything. I still think the gap would have been too much though, and people forget how many fans were already turning against him during our wobble towards the end of the Championship season. I think fans would have been very quick to turn on him. He just wouldn't have had a high enough quality of players to make his system work for us against most Premier League teams. I think he is doing well at Chelsea, but they need to be pushing for the title next year and win a Cup to show he is the real deal, due to how much Chelsea have spent and the young talent they have. I think he can do both, but a title push seems less likely yet due to Liverpool improving and Man City maybe getting their mojo back. The future looks good though and they will likely only get better under him.

He will be one of the best players in the Championship if we can keep hold of him. He is one of the players I think we should sell others to try and keep. I suspect he may push for a move though and there will be buyers.

I will be surprised if we aren't top 4. The Championship is terrible. People forget that our crappy players like Faes and Vestergaard looked like Puyol and Maldini down there. Sheffield United will lose some players. Ipswich will be up there, as well as Southampton. Don't see many others being stronger than us. If we don't get promotion next year though, then we really are in danger of being stuck down there.

really? Not seen anyone say they want him. A handful saying he may still get us promoted though. He seems a overwhelmingly unpopular choice. He will need a very good start, as it will get very toxic if not.

I don't want RVN here next season, but the way Top and Rudkin have treated him is shameful. They will likely bin him off with a text, then announce Martin 10 mins later.

They were the 3rd highest scorers in the Championship last season, only 2 behind us. I am not sure where this 1-0 thing has come from. They dished out some thrashings too. I don't want him here either but I do think he will get us promoted and not with 1-0 wins either. The passing out the back will be painful though.

Listening to him on Lineker's podcast, he absolutely does not show any signs of willingness to adapt. It will be similar to Maresca and I agree that it will likely be successful in the Championship, but longer-term, it is pushing us down a route that will not keep us a Premier League club, unless rules are changed and we could invest heavily in the playing squad. I think he may be shocked how much negativity the fans will have towards him and the club too. So, he better start off very well as people want blood already.

I am not interested in promotion. I want that passing record!

Has RVN fallen out with another player?

That line-up would be honking in the Championship, let alone the Prem. Cheerio RVN. Handsome man but not a good Manager.

The rare few who are suggesting we keep RVN, need to put that to bed today. That line-up is horrific.

Still the most likely outcome for me. Will get us promoted his way, but barely improve on his Southampton in the Premier League. Promoted teams just do not have the funds or pulling power to attract the type of players needed to make this way successful against the established teams. Do you think Dyche would have a better crack at promotion and staying up doing it his way? Weirdly, I think Martin would fair slightly better in the Championship with us, but Dyche would likely give us a more realistic chance of staying up. Two complete opposites and both painful from a fan's perspective. Most important thing for me, is to get back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. We can then make changes in an attempt to stay up. We have to be there to be able to give us that chance again though, and the financial incentive to bounce straight back is huge.

Calling it now. Sunderland will break the record for the lowest points in the Premier League. They are woefully unprepared to bridge that ever increasing gap.

It will work in the Championship, even with some individual errors, as they often go unpunished. I don't believe his method will ever work in the Premier League, as you need a far superior team than he would be capable of putting together on a promoted side's budget.

Sheff Utd will be a bigger test for us than Sunderland would have been. Not a great result for us. Sunderland may as well start planning for their return to the Championship though, no way they stay up.

He looked quality in the Championship, but so did Vestergaard. I just hate his attitude, and how he constantly throws his hands up even when he is at fault. Always got the impression that he thinks he is much better than he actually is. Get him gone. CB's are the positions we need to do most work in over the Summer, with Coady, Verstergaard and Faes hopefully OUT.

Listening to him recently, I don't see any sign that he is willing to even contemplate having a Plan B. He has talked about learning from his mistakes, but also implied that he will be doubling down on his playing ethos. I think he will get us promoted with his Plan A, but really struggle in the Premier League again. That isn't the worst thing in the world, as we could still give ourselves a chance of staying up with a smart replacement by October, but I see why people don't warm to the idea of having a Manager that is likely to fail in the future, and also do it with a style that is often boring. I also want to get promoted at the first time of asking though, so if it is him, I will try to focus on the positive that he achieved that just 12 months ago. Whether doing that through the play-offs is seen as a negative, I don't take much notice of. His remit was promotion and he did that, and I'd argue that Leeds actually had a stronger team too. Southampton were the worst of the 3 relegated teams the season prior. If it is Martin, he is going to need a very good start, as the majority on here at least, are clearly unhappy. Then again, the majority on here were reasonable optimistic about RVN, and look how that turned out.
