Well you know what, **** the current players, **** the owners. I'm going to choose to be excited about the rebuild of the club, no doubt we are in for a massive battle between rebuilding a great football club, and then whatever the hell the owners are doing. JJ is the kind of player you rebuild the entire club around and make captain, make him the top earner and promise him the opportunity to leave if we fail. Yep, we were in a situation where we couldn't attack and couldn't defend. The only solution for any manager here was to throw the kitchen sink at everyone and just desperately try to outscore our shitty defence. What is the pre match music? been a couple of seasons since I've been (simply cba to make the effort to travel multiple hours for this club) I always liked Club Foot, first time I heard it at a match I think was when I went to Norwich Away in the early 00s and thought it was a good atmosphere, we had it for a while and thought it worked well with the pre match flames and atmosphere. Huge part of me wants to just get this over with. I understand the massive financial implications this will have on the club, so I'm hoping they can be mitigated and keep us afloat, but part of me thinks that IF the finances can be mitigated, maybe going down is the way forward, because if we stay up, these idiots will have more flexibility to continue to make the same mistakes. It effectively forces this incompetent ownership to get overpaid, spineless players off the books, and limits their spending capacity to a blueprint that made this club successful, loans, free transfers of players who have a point to prove after failing to make it at bigger clubs, and cheap signings. League 1 is essentially going to force the club to re-adopt the Pearson blueprint as we simply cannot afford anything else. It might hopefully also force the club to really focus on sustainable promotion, so that if we do go back up, they have an asset to sell. We still have issues with players like Kristiansen/BDCR etc still being in contract so we may end up with a few clinging on for dear life, but at the very least it's much harder to make that problem worse now.

I assumed that the contract agreement was agreed when the initial loan deal was made, and we then had an option to trigger it based on that pre-arranged deal with JJ signing it on the basis that he would have thought it incredibly unlikely that we actually go down. I think sadly we have for a while been in a situation where we needed a bit of luck in timing, we need a manager who is willing to stand up against the board, but also is in a position to get wins, if the wins come, the board have a much harder job sacking. If RVN had 6-7 first team players who were fully committed and were putting in half decent performances every week, he may have been able to shift the culture, the board are incapable of doing it clearly, the issue is, any manager who attempts to shift the culture is likely to face backlash from the players and a downturn in performances as a result, which ends with the board sacking the manager. In an alternative universe where we went down fighting under RVN and the Man City performance more frequent he may have been in a position to actually change the culture, sadly the only manager who looked up for the fight inherited the most spineless squad we've created in modern memory, at a time where the board were at their most incompetent. RVN also takes his share in the blame for his odd decisions of course. But he is the first manager we've had since Pearson that actually felt capable of taking on the hierarchy. Rogers tried to undermine them toward the end, but that was to undo the mess that he and the board had gotten us into! Maybe League 1 presents the opportunity for a manager to come in and start getting the wins needed to make himself untouchable as to actually address the culture at the club . I don't think so, would he have done better than Rowett in hindsight? maybe, maybe not. We were rapidly declining under MC, and Rowett being bad in hindsight was not an excuse to keep Marti. What we should have done is sacked Marti in December and brought in Hassenhuttl, a manager well renowned for driving very high standards and getting rid/dropping anyone who doesn't follow those standards completely.

Constantly playing the same players who got us into this mess, and setting us up to avoid defeat, before inevitably conceding then having to move into kitchen sink mode.
