  1. Exactly, it’s the threat of a goal being disallowed that reduces the excitement of a goal so I am enjoying it much more. I was just wondering if I would feel the same if I thought we were being robbed of points due to poor decisions.
  2. The first goal came through Woutt making a run from deep in the 10 channel that wasn’t picked up until it was too late. This is a great attacking tactic against a deep block as it gives us an overload there but it’s risky against a more attack minded team.
  3. I was a pitch level so it’s harder to judge but it seemed that in the second half Woutt and Mav were working triangles and getting some joy down the left. Wilf and Abdul weren’t having the same success on the right during the first half.
  4. I agree, it’s great to be able to celebrate a goal without worrying about the Purple Screen of Doom appearing. Having said that we are not in a position where a dodgy call has negatively affected the outcome of a game. The only really blatant ones I can remember are Woutt giving away a clear penalty early on (Sunderland maybe?), Abdul not getting one against Plymouth and also his studs up challenge against Brum.
  5. I thought he looked their best player overall. First LB for a while that Abdul hasn’t had on toast. That and being on a yellow card was probably the reason for the early substitution.
  6. I was sat with my Mum in the wheelchair area today in front of SK2 rather than my usual seat near the back of the singing section so it was interesting to compare and quite disappointing that I could only really hear noise coming from the singing section. Even WYS was drowned out by the PA whereas normally I can only hear those around us singing. I’m not sure what the answer is, maybe only play the first couple of lines to get people started. In terms of singing during the match it didn’t really get going until we scored when ‘straight back up’ and Enzo’s song were both pretty loud and taken up in other areas. No criticisms intended here just an observation from a different vantage point and I certainly don’t have any answers, maybe acoustics are part of the problem?
  7. I didn’t mention she is in a wheelchair
  8. We are bringing my Mum to the game tomorrow and there is no disabled parking available. Any suggestions for where we can drop her off as near as possible to SK1. Obviously one of us will be with her!
  9. We are in the singing section, family behind us always arrive just in time for WYS, go down for beers on 40 mins and don’t usually get back until 5 mins into the second half. They then leave on 90 mins at the latest. But they sing and chant continuously throughout the game so nobody can say they don’t contribute to the atmosphere. We have quite a distance to travel so arrive early to get a decent parking space, stay to applaud the players off to avoid the crush on the stairs and usually go for a cheeky Nandos while the traffic dies down. Everyone’s circumstances are different, we have no need to rush home because we are all at the match but that’s not the case for all. I am sure the players would love to see the ground full as they walk round at the end but I bet they are more spurred on by the amount of encouragement they get during the game. We are bringing my 85 year old Mum to the Rotherham game and I am sitting with her in the wheelchair section so it will be interesting to see how loud it is at pitch level in front of SK1 rather than at the back.
  10. Firstly well done on the research that goes into this and I hope you enjoyed your day out despite the nightmare of a road system! i guess any list such as notable people from Leicester or famous ex-players is bound to be subjective and tends to reflect the writers age more than anything else. One factual error that you might like to correct - we were promoted from the old second division in 1971 not relegated to. I remember it well as it was my first season as a fan.
  11. “Cover your eyes” My favourite goal in the pre-match video
  12. Personally I tried cutting down but it never seemed to work, I then had a bit of a health scare so gave up to totally while they investigated. Thankfully it turned out to be nothing but by that stage I had been alcohol free for two months so just kept going even through Christmas. I didn’t have a plan to give up completely and thought I would probably go back to drinking in moderation but apart from the very occasional glass of wine on special occasions I have stayed off it for over 4 years now.
  13. This was precipitated though by the collapse of the ITV Digital deal which would have provided substantial funds. Our case, and others, led to the points deduction for going into administration and the introduction of parachute payments. Had parachute payments been in place we would probably not have gone into admin and there would not have been as issue. Also, local businesses would not have gone under.
  14. It felt that was a game very much in four sections. Leeds came at us hard and fast so we struggled to get any rhythm for the first 10 minutes or so and could easily have conceded. Other managers will have seen that but not many will be well enough drilled not to leave themselves wide open doing it. For the next 30 minutes or so we managed to gain some control around the middle and both wingers looked dangerous and had the beating of their full-backs. They seemed to up the tempo just before half time and for 15-20 mins after that. I couldn’t see if there was a tactical change but the effect was noticeable. For the last 30 mins or so we seemed to be huffing and puffing with little or no effect. Both wingers cut inside every time they got the ball and their full-backs had worked this out so it was relatively easy to defend. We looked far more dangerous when we tried to go round the outside but that meant crossing with the weaker foot. Maybe swapping sides in-game might give the opposition a different problem to solve under these circumstances. As has been said, we missed Wilf in the number 8 role and for whatever reason Casadei did not look at the races which is a shame because he has looked better the last couple of home games. Ricki P showed what an outstandingly gifted player he is by moving into that role and Hamza is far better in the inverted full-back role than I thought he would be but that is not ideal.
  15. Would have been given by VAR most of the time in the Prem, particularly if it was a ‘big club’. Refs seem to be more accepting of physical contact in the Championship, defenders bear hugging attackers is particularly bad. I thought you just about shaded it last night but I don’t think you could have had too many complaints if KDH’s header had gone in, we had plenty of the ball in your half but couldn’t carve out any decent openings. I haven’t seen much of Ipswich but I suspect that once injuries and suspensions start to bite and squad depth becomes more important we saw the two automatic promotion teams last night.
  16. He’s said himself he’s loving the way we play and the role he has in it. Honestly can’t see him moving as long as Enzo is here. Why would he risk he career going into reverse again?
  17. I agree that is looks terrible for us to be involved but Everton need to be punished massively (multiple tens of millions) so I would rather that money went further down the pyramid. In the medium term at least it has done us a favour, accelerated the clear out and enabled a new coach with new players to develop a system without the pressure of another relegation battle. Personally I am much more angry about the way Man City were allowed to game the system. Two years of CL money when we were strapped for cash could have made a huge difference although Rodgers would probably have just spaffed it on shit. One thought just occurred to me. Newly promoted teams almost always struggle so what about giving them a decent sized pot of cash, say 20/30 million to give them a fighting chance? It would probably need tweaking so it only went to clubs who didn’t get parachute payments that year.
  18. It’s not just the roads, it’s the entire transport system. Personally we stay until the players have left the pitch, go for a Nando’s and by the time we have eaten it the roads are pretty much clear.
  19. As I remember it the old W formation had two full backs, a centre half flanked by two wing halves (ie 3 half backs) then a front line of two wingers, two inside forwards and a centre forward. When teams started playing 4-2-4, 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 the back line became two full backs and two centre backs. I’ve never heard quarterback being used until very recently, I don’t think it has anything to do with position on the pitch more reflecting the role in American Football of deciding attack patterns and distributing the ball.
  20. Today was so predictable: Vardy comes on Away fans sing about Becky We give it back x10 Vardy scores All in the space of 3 mins. Will they never learn?
  21. We were listening to Talkshite on the way home and they had a Burnley fan on. They were promoted easily last year playing a possession based game like us (unsurprising really) but he was critical of Kompany not having a plan B in the PL. I think we have a higher quality and deeper squad than they had in the Championship though. I also think it is ideal for Enzo to be able to develop his managerial skills and coach the techniques players need to implement his ideas in a less pressured environment.
  22. Surprised nobody has mentioned Casadei in the post match. I thought he had a really good game, tidying up a lot between the half-way line and their penalty area allowing us to maintain pressure. Pretty much what Wilf has been asked to do this season.
  23. First off all I hope the journey home was not too stressful, getting out of Leicester is a nightmare at the best of times and even more so at the moment as they seem to be digging up every road in the city. At risk of sounding arrogant there is quite a gulf in class not just in the starting XI but even more the strength in depth we have on the bench so Lowe didn’t have too many options. I certainly don’t subscribe to the view that visiting teams should play in such a way as to make it easy for us. You devise a plan to give you the best chance to get something out of it, it’s our job to find a way through. That’s what Enzo means when he talks about solving problems. Anyway, all the best for the rest of the season and thanks for the kind words about 15-16.
  24. Enzo said a few weeks ago when we were winning by the odd goal that he had only taught the players 10-20% of what he had planned. I wonder what the percentage is now? This must have increased given that we are starting to score more freely, particularly against tiring opponents. It makes me excited to see what is coming next, if it is tactics and patterns to break through the low block then we could be in for a lot of fun and the rest of the league should be very worried.
  25. It felt to me like the game split into 3 periods. Their strategy, as expected, was a block so low that if it had been any further back it would have been in the family stand. For the first 30 mins or so they weren’t even trying to play on the counter, they had no attacking intent whatsoever. We were like a boxer, circling the opponent while firing off jabs but not taking any risks. Once they settled into the game they started to become a bit more attack minded and we struggled to get any real control which lasted until just after half time. This was easily the period where they looked most likely to score, if they had I am certain they would have reverted to plan A. I hadn’t picked up Ricardo’s positional change as described in Strider’s excellent (again) analysis but that explains how we regained control in the middle and could continue probing around the final third. As their manager says they began to tire - it’s not only physical, the mental demands of keeping your shape under pressure and the knowledge that any mistake will concede a chance is exhausting. Once that mistake came they were forced to try to attack and the end result was inevitable.
