I'm particularly keen to see what our recruitment plan is for the summer, regardless of what league we are in. The level of players linked to certain agents or those Enzo has a network with (De Zerbi/Montella) suggest there's not much club led strategy. Maybe that's OK if Enzo's strengths lay in identifying players but we've been here before.

I thought he pressed well immediately, he won the ball a few times but it happened at a time when we took our two best pressers off that evening in Cannon and KDH. Vardy didn't apply the same intensity and our wingers and central midfielders we easing off too. He's just not got that overwhelming end product or strength to make an impact here I'm afraid. He badly needs a goal to see if it kicks starts something but it's looking doubtful. He'll start on Saturday but probably alongside Praet.

It probably is harsh, but Maresca was willing and was successful in using the squad at the start of the season. We regularly made 3-4 subs a game, often early in games where we'd been wearing teams down and then we weren't afraid to take big players off like Ndidi, Mavididi and KDH and bring on squad players to get us the win. We now don't seem to dare risk it and yet we are the ones more vulnerable in the closing stages in games than our opposition.

Same as Montella telling Enzo to sign Akgün
-
There's only a week left to get this done anyway, so I don't see what them keeping him that extra week does. I think we'll end up with a different player joining on deadline day.

I thought Ipswich were tactically poor last night, one of the few teams who have struggled with us in the 1st half of games twice this season. Our undoing was as much us as them. I didn't see anything tactically brilliant from them last night, except to stop being so scared us of going man for man.
-
His pressing, pace, movement and tackling leave me scratching my head why he wasn't the 8 trying to help protect an ailing midfield if we weren't prepared to bring Doyle on and drop Hamza in there.

It's hard to envisage the majority of this squad, with Enzo's philosophies prospering in the PL. We'll be taught some harsh lessons. For all the possession we have, we sacrifice chance creation at both ends of the pitch. However, as the games wear on, rather than us get stronger like we did in the early parts of the season with energy and confidence and a willingness to use subs, we are vulnerable to gifting teams goals and points. There's plenty to like about what we've done this season but without serious financial investment or some herculean recruitment strategy in the summer, I fear for us if we do go up (that is by no means a certainty). The things we need to get better at is creating patterns of play to get our best finishers in on goal. Everyone raves about the spread of goals in this team but I actually look at it that we are hugely wasteful in front of goal because our attacking patterns gift our players who aren't good finishers more opportunities than our strikers or wide forwards. How many times are we too casual in the final Thurs from KDH, Mavididi, Ricardo, Fatawu etc. Their final ball or concentration is infuriating, it happened so much last night. KDH on the face of it looked like he had a good game, I can't recall many other games where he was as dominant at picking up the ball and finding space from both deep or in advanced areas. Yet, his execution in to Cannon or others to get in on goal was really poor. McAteer was even worse, he found himself in positions that Ipswich couldn't deal with and not once did he create an opening for others, just some horrendous shots once he'd ran out of ideas. Got to improve our set pieces both in defence and attack. Got to maintain the desire to press (this has improved in recent months) and got to have more aggression and bravery in the closing stages of games.

It's becoming increasingly clear Enzo only trusts about 15-16 players in this squad. It's like de ja vu.
-
I thought he was excellent last night.

Could and should have been preventable last night. Despite our central midfield issues, protecting the defence should be something we can deal with. We have Winks, Ricardo and Hamza who at this level can do this consistently. Hamza was having a very good game last night but why didn't we bring Doyle on and get Hamza in with Winks to provide the solidity in the final 10-15 mins? All we did was take off our two pressing outlets in KDH and Cannon and brought on Vardy who's not able to apply such intensity any longer, even in short bursts and Akgün. Seemingly Winks and Ricardo did not prosper well in the closing stages.
-
He causes teams all sorts of problems off the ball, but on it he's extremely limited. I'm not sure how much that can be improved, if we go up I just don't see him having the time and environment to do so. Maybe a few years scrabbling around the Championship and he could slowly get to the level, but not right now. So there's already a crossroads for his career here, he's way off it.

I don't think we necessarily dropped deep in the closing stages, but what were Winks and Ricardo doing for the goal? The space on the edge of the area was ridiculous, with the introduction of Akgün, we had a chance for him to push as the attacking point of our midfield and Winks and Ricardo to provide more strength to protect the back four, the opposite happened on the one dangerous opening they created at the end. Really frustrating. We created plenty, they got in to it more 2nd half but I still didn't mind our performance 2nd half until their subs started to ask more questions and we didn't seize the opportunity to be braver going forward. McAteer was so wasteful tonight, caused them all sorts of problems u til he actually got the ball and was then utterly abysmal with it. There's a player in there but a huge work in progress. -

Logan Briggs is a big talent. -
I yearn for us to press as a team and the whole game plan tonight is pressing. Its been great to watch, players aren't really playing fixed positions but the system has been designed to protect a bank of pressing from the front in case Ipswich escape it. We could and should have been far more ruthless in the final third but let's hope we come out 2md half and keep the same intensity. Get a 2nd and take the game away from them.

Tom Cannon aka David Nugent with a brace tonight.

It would be nice to get some insight in to what the plan is for Alves. Wonder if this season is a total write off for him and Braybrooke. Somewhat worrying. -
I'm still reserving judgement on the success of the signings, things change fast when you go back up and it's a whole different ball game. For the money and resources we've had last summer, signing players to prosper at this level should not have been difficult and overall it hasn't been. Hermansen - class Doyle - half decent Coady - jury very much out Winks - class Mavididi - very good Casadei - average Akgün - average Fatawu - very good Cannon - very promising
-
If Fatawu stops getting picked in the final stretch of the season then we know we're fcuked.
-
If he gets us promoted, he'll be tempted by a Serie A club IMO.
-
I'm not convinced the scouting is very good. I don't see any tangible changes yet but then again the ordinary fan wouldn't see that in the short term. We still don't seem to actively scout South America or South East Asia where both value for money and strong successes have been found by our fellow peers.
-
I think one of the reasons we don't go for free transfers very often, is they are costlier in the year you bring them in as I don't think you can amortise signing on fees and agent fees.
-
I wish you were correct.

Remind me of people who work in the ticket offices at train stations and on reception at GP surgeries.
