Don't really remember it, but my Mam told me I roared my eyes out when we lost the Cup to Spurs in 61- so maybe it's not even a conscious thing. Started going down in 63, and the noise, colour, drama and sheer Leicesterness of it all captivated me. Different game then of course - still being available to the general population - but depite it all it's a lifelong obsession. How could it not be?

Things that you have done that most people probably haven't

Yes, my mate lived on Turk round there. I lived in Lower Haight and also in the Mission for a while, so I saw another side to the town than the usual tourist traps. It could get a bit salty, but I loved the place! -

Thanks. Didn't know about Balin, and just looked him up. Sadly seem to have been some medical issues towards the end. As I said, Paul Kantner struck me as a really nice bloke. Very SF - open-minded, liberal and fair. Got great memories of the place. -
It's possible to over-think these things. Maybe there's some self-interest there, things are rarely black and white. But frankly I'm not that bothered. They did the right thing.

Yeah, well...whatever the reason (and I am willing to believe it was honourable), they did it. It's actions that matter, and our club acted brilliantly. I'm actually proud of our club - even more than usual.

It was Paul Kantner. I was working as a courier in San Francisco, and delivered a package to his house (nice place overlooking the Pacific). He picked up on my accent and talked about playing at the DeMontfort Hall. Really nice bloke - we ended up sitting on his patio, smoking and shooting the breeze for most of the afternoon. Was sad to hear about his death fairly recently. Intelligent and thoughtful man. -
To the tune of 'Don't Take Me Home' He's on the wing, Chengy's on the wing, We've got Cengiz on the wing! Everywhere we play Listen to them say Cengiz Under's on the wing! All the way from Rome, Leicester is his home, We've got Cengiz on the wing! Nineteen on his back, Attack! Attack! Attack! Cengiz Under's on the wing!

On the subject of mildly illegal activity. .. Once got a platform-ticket at London Rd station and travelled to Penzance on it. Once got chased by a cop car when giving a mate a lift home on my old motorbike (he had no helmet on). Managed to give them the slip in St Peter's estate. Er...that'll do for now. -

Worked in a country where I had no visa or legal right to work. Got away with it for about six months and had a lot of fun along the way. Pretty good money too, incidentally. -

Once spent a very strange afternoon getting ridiculously stoned with a former member of Jefferson Airplane. -
No - just a red-brick victorian terraced street. Of which there are hundreds in Leicester. Not all as long as mine though (ooh-er, missus). On your point, the M1 is long all right. Don't think too many people live on it though.
-
A bit embarrassing? There are probably more people living in my street than in the whole of Andorra! Mind you, it's quite a long street...

Sad to hear about Johnny Nash. 'Tears on my Pillow' takes me back to the hot summer of 75, dancing in the incongruous surrounds of the Turtle Wax warehouse just outside Manchester with a pretty student nurse while it was playing on the radio during our dinner break. All that and nine quid a week!

I went to the DVD rental shop and found out it had shut down about 18 months ago. Bit of a wasted journey really...

You and the udders, to be fair.

Also Toby Jones is the son of the great Freddie Jones who starred with Diana Rigg in a brilliant episode of The Avengers (shown recently on ITV 4 I think).

I was walking through a field of cows last winter. I had to put on a jersey to stop my bullocks from fresian. That's the country for you.

It's true he doesn't like us that much. I remember in 15/16 when we were going for the title, and the media were falling over themselves to jump on our bandwagon - his was pretty much the only dissenting voice: 'I'm from Nottingham. I don't want to see Leicester win the league!' Personally I found that refreshing.
-
He certainly gets a fair bit of stick on here. Something to do with the Nottingham background maybe. And the Spurs thing. Predictable I guess. Quite like him meself...

I know Turkish fans are a bit salty, but saying Ghezzal's a horse that's been gelded seems harsh.

No you haven't. Probably explains why I haven't got any friends. Which, I have to say, is a state of affairs I am oddly at ease with.
-
Completely agree - other peoples' children are incredibly uninteresting. Same with their houses. I once went round to see some friends when they'd just moved into a new gaff. 'Do you want to look around? ' 'Er...no thanks' 'Excuse me? ' No, thanks anyway. But, you know, I've seen houses before.' 'Sorry? ' 'Well...let me guess. You've got bedrooms upstairs, a bathroom probably, a kitchen through there. That kind of thing? ' For some reason they took exception to my indifference. Probably explains why I never see them anymore. Thank God...

Can't do with Dan Walker personally - very clunky when he attempts humour. Chapman's decent, but I imagine Jermaine Jenas is nailed on for the gig when Gary retires.

Football Specials - the good old days
Stoopid replied to worth_the_wait's topic in Leicester City Forum
I believe the football special trains became less popular after one fan was run over on the track a while back. From what I heard though, he was chuffed to bits! -
