I was always taught growing up that you make money on bricks and mortar. But I’ve read and seen some research lately that suggests house prices don’t necessarily appreciate in value, they increase because of inflation. So I did a check on ours that we’ve just sold. It cost us £210k in 2002 and the bank of England inflation calculator says in todays money, it would be worth £382k We’ve just sold it for £395k which only slightly beats inflation over those 23 years. Thought that was quite interesting. Edit: just remembered that we’ve spent well over £20k in that time on a conservatory, new en-suite and garage conversion. So technically we’ve lost money on it

We've lived in the same house for over 20 years and have talked about moving for at least the last 5 years. Kept procrastinating, making excuses, but finally bit the bullet this year and took the plunge. I feel sick at the prospect of taking out another mortgage in my 50's having paid our old one off, but we desperately need more space now the kids are pretty much adults now. Probably about £60k worth of work to do on the new one (if it all goes through as planned) including new kitchen/diner and bathroom, but when it's done it will be perfect. I think my Mum dying just before Xmas made me think fvck it, lets just get on and do it.
  14. Spent the last six weeks binging all six seasons of this and finished it today. Really liked it and thought Deran and Craig were brilliant characters. Not quite top tier Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, The Wire, or Soprano's for me, but definitely second tier on a par with Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, Succession, Ozark etc. Thanks for the recommendation. Now what next?

Yeah, we accepted an offer on ours last week. Got the Memorandum of Sale through and their solicitors are on the case with ours. Our buyer is selling to a first time buyer and there’s no chain above us, so hopefully things should be relatively pain free

Just had an offer accepted on our next place which was £5k under the maximum we wanted to pay for it. Wheels in motion everywhere now and fingers crossed all goes to plan. The wife has her heart set on the new place and already planning all the work that needs doing on it. I’m desperately trying to manage her expectations that things might still all go Pete but she’s already chosen who’s having what bedroom and researching new kitchens
  20. Day 1 in Aiya Napa. Woke up to glorious sunshine. Lay by the pool at 10am, fell asleep, woke up at 1pm Red as a beetroot. Got sunstroke. Been sick. And it was only 19 degrees. Nice start…
  21. It's a strange one for me. I quite like Ruud as a bloke. He speaks well, clearly intelligent, and I like his aura. I can imagine the players actually quite like playing for him. But his record is crap and ultimately it's about results. I'd probably stick with him tbh. (and my opinion might be swayed because I also admired him as a player)
  22. Good goal that tbf
  23. Oh look, Faes in no man's land again
