Been giving this is a bit of thought, we paid £10m and 3 year contract for Winks, so roughly £3.33m per season in amortisation however after year one we gained promotion and instigated a one year extension option At that time, his book value was £6.67m the club had two options open to it, one continue to amortise at £3.33m and effectively this summer have no outstanding book value or re-amortise over the revised 3 year term at £2.2m. I do wonder if we chose to not reamortise and therefore even if we received a nominal fee it will be booked as profit and make it much easier to do a deal where the buying club can match or improve his current terms.

I appreciate what you are saying and respect your viewpoint, Ings wasn’t a Wilder signing IIRC and seemed to largely revert back to ‘his players’. Also Ings has largely been 2nd / 3rd choice at his most recent clubs. All I am saying is in league one, under a different manager and a different style he could be a decent addition. I would expect him to be a rotational starter and impact sub. But most importantly will be a positive influence, leader and mentor to our younger players.

Hmmmmmm however downing tools at Preston and jogging back whilst they scored the winner, his disgraceful performance against Sheff Utd at home and his embarrassing attempts at busting a gut to stop Swansea scoring on the counter, would suggest his standards were lower than most. none of the above were anything to do with the managers, his own personal choice to not bust a gut.

Thanks for sharing this, he wasn’t my preferred choice of manager but so far been really impressed with what I have seen and heard. We have been crying out for somebody to come in and reset the culture, and it would appear that Russell Martin is the man to do this. Yes there will be bumps in the road but he is here and he is our manager and from what has gone on so far it has been way more positive than negative. Perhaps it’s time for us all to put aside the negativity and get behind this manager and really hope he can deliver the culture change and upturn in results and performances this club so desperately needs.

Too be fair it’s such an inexperienced starting XI it’s really only Choudhury or Faes which is like asking to drink your own sick 🤢 or eat your own shit 💩 at least with this decision it kind of sends a shot across the bows that it won’t be Hamza, and it’s highly likely Faes will be off so in grand scheme of things not too fussed.

Yes I did compare in the view a player can have a poor season, or be impacted by behind the scenes turmoil. Yes United had a better season than we did but they were a car crash until Wilder somewhat stabilised them from November onwards.

And Abdul fits that model, will be very reasonably priced and huge upsale potential

Vardy had an absolute horror season the year we got relegated under Brendan IIRC scored 3 goals or something like that, following season was excellent in the championship and the year after that had a relatively decent return in a side relegated from the prem. In reckon Ings if he has a decent run of games will bag a minimum of 10 this season.

Just because Ings only scored 2 in 23 for Sheff United last season bears no real bearing on how he will perform for us in league one. Sheff Utd were a bit of a mess, with the appointment and sacking of Selles and then the rehiring of Wilder. The role he will be asked to play for us could be very different to the one he was expected to play last season. What I do see with Ings is a very good role model and mentor to our younger players such as Evans, Otchere and Hutchinson which could be massive in their development.

Wow that is an insane wage for a player who has never been a mainstay starter for us and yet he will be one of the highest paid players in the league, how can anyone defend that or not question what a complete mismanagement of our finances this demonstrates.

Got to be honest if I was Everton, Leeds, Brighton, Fulham, Bournemouth, Brentford and any of the newly promoted sides I would be all over signing Abdul for £15m + would be a relatively low risk signing with lots of upside potential.

I did say £5m+ including bonuses. Base fee I don’t see us getting more than £2-2.5m but with appearances and promotion bonuses could easily hit £5m In total for a player who is still relatively young and with potential.

Can play pretty much across any of the front 4 positions so will offer a lot of versatility. Very good signing at this level and the things I have read about his leadership is very positive. We need to massively improve the culture and professionalism within the squad, the signings of Chaplin, Ings and McCarthy will be a decent start. As for the 3 years, I think it will be 2 years with an option for a further year subject to hitting certain performance targets

I have a feeling Stolarcryk will move on, I think he will have suitors in the championship and we could easily net £5m+ including bonuses etc If so Vietas as starting keeper with McCarthy as back up wouldn’t be a bad option. Plus he is a good solid pro so again makes sense, I have a feeling McCarthy, Ings and Chaplin have been identified as not only decent players for league one but also players who can come in as leaders of the group and reset what has been a disgrace of a senior leadership group. reminds me a lot of how Pearson operated, bring in his experienced leaders early days to help set standards and culture and then bring in the younger players around them.

Another one who shows the complete lack of due diligence the club takes when scouting players not only technically but from a character perspective. He has done nothing but down tools and sulk his way through each season he has been here. The whole way we scout players needs a complete overhaul. Way too much money has been wasted on players who are not good enough and are mentally weak and unprofessional.

I think it’s the authorities reacting to negative publicity and feedback and being seen to do the ‘right’ thing whilst not fully killing the clubs opportunities to maximise revenue via these obscure betting and crypto companies.
