I may well have got Hampshire wrong but 90 miles is a long way to travel to and from 'work' Ruud van Nistelrooy 'BANISHES £10m star from Leicester squad after heated row - as midfielder refuses to alter his 100-mile commute to training' https://share.google/tOlrMb9eK59pSpQnh

No. It isn't. The players under Marti, that he needs to get a tune out of, consistently travel in from as far away as Hampshire. They couldn't care less about Leicester. It's just a job until their contracts finish and they can move on somewhere else. Winks is a prime example. He clearly wanted a move away. When it didn't happen he started celebrating goals again. He will be gone in the Summer unless we get Prem football. I don't think there are many managers in the world that could get this lot playing. And while that's the case I'd rather keep Marti and save the money it would cost sacking him. This season is going to be horrible but somehow we've got to put up with it and hope we can be shrewd in the transfer Market both in January and the Summer

I politely disagree. I just don't think we can afford to not get something out of them while they are our players. I also don't think he can rely on them either. But it will get to a point when they will have to pull their fingers out to secure the moves they want. I think Faas has an agreement for January hence why he isn't playing as injury would risk whatever is in place. If those out of contract (in the Summer) want wages like they are on at Leicester they are going to have to prove they are worth them. -
I've seen players go off on stretchers and be back playing the following week. I've also seen players 'patched up' sent back on, see out the 90 and then have 6 months out. His injury was obviously a worry for the medical team and a stretcher deemed necessary to prevent further damage. Hopefully, he will have scan and we will get good news. If not then I hope the precautions taken (stretcher) shortens the recovery time.

I can forgive Marti for his selections until he gets a transfer window where he can bring in 'his players'. Our squad must be so frustrating for our managers. When you go through the players and list their international caps or previous success it's shocking that no one can get a tune out of them. But I've got to a point where I recognise if Rogers, Smith, Enzo (we had a very long blip that let Leeds get close), Cooper, and Ruud can't get them playing then what hope has Marti got. We've just got to see this season out and then roll the dice in the transfer market when a number of this squad will have moved on. Imagine having Winks, Soumare, Vesteguard and Faas's wages off the books. Those players travel in daily and have no love for Leicester. Wearing the shirt is simply work for them. So I'm Marti in. My emotions immediately after a poor performance make me want to make a change but I just don't see the benefit. I see Marti as a bit of a Puel. A steady hand that is going to install some non negotiables. A foundation builder. -
I've seen a lot made of last nights selection- My take is we are supposed to have a strong squad. We've a number of games in quick succession following an international break where some of our players played. We are 11 games into a long season. He is clearly managing our squad rather than 11 first team players to ensure we are not hampered with injuries. And before we get into attitude of our players etc on paper the team selected was more than good enough and should have been fighting for their places in the team. I also like what Marti said. He was honest that the first half was not good enough and didn't meet the standards expected. Hugely disappointed with the result. Also bored of this squads players inadequacies. But sacking another manager is not the answer.

LCFC 1-1 Portsmouth - Post Match Thread

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh! So much better than the opposition technically yet so much poorer in desire and commitment. We are so so fragile. It's been so frustrating for so long. The second half moment that sums us up was the ball slipping under Ayews foot and out of play for a throw. It's like the whole team mentally breaks when something goes wrong. No wonder they aren't Prem quality players. -
Watching Sheffield United is a worrying glimpse of our future if we don't get promoted. It's scary how far they have fallen from their standards last season. The match is dreadful. I know Leeds had a great second season in the Championship but I feel we desperately need promotion even if we do come straight back down again. Especially, if a couple of the more established prem teams are relegated due to Sunderland and Leeds surviving.

I think they simply need telling they are allowed to score. I know it means giving the ball away so the opposition can kick off but there has to be an exception to the keep procession club rule.

I'd throw Page back in at 10. We were better in the first half because our shape was better. If we had an actual 10 I think it would have been even better. -
Great news. Its clearly brilliant for the whole club as these youngsters are putting serious pressure on the older players for starting positions. Its like having new signings!
-
I think this is brilliant news. Well done Luke!
-
I thought Marti was brilliant at half time and through out the second half. Tactically, he won the second half with his changes. I loved that he got legs on early to keep us physically in the game. Don't get me wrong the 1st half was a rubbish but I'm pleased we have a manager that can adapt in game. A point won rather than 2 lost after the first half.
-
He has to protect the youngsters. They've all been playing through the international break. We've the luxury to do this.
-
I won't claim to be more knowledgeable. I think both full backs are asked to sit. Here are my reasons why: This supports our slower CBs. We were being caught out constantly last season with fullbacks out of position when we coughed up possession. Lastly, it allows our wingers to attack without the fear that if they lose the ball there is no one behind them. The CMs can come across to fill holes from the wingers and the CB can step out to interrupt the opposition as the Full backs are there to defend the penalty area. I think it's a smart system for where we were confidence wise and gives us a platform to build upon going forward.
-
He can perform a long throw as well!
-
I don't disagree. Going forward that would help no end. However, with our confidence levels from a season where every time we coughed up possession we conceded as our full backs were out of position I think its a clever move to hold them back. It also helps support our slow CBs and allows one of the CBs to step into midfield to interrupt the oppositions play when they counter. Something Faas and Vestergaard can do. My point is our wingers can have a go without fear in the present system as when the full back is up with them I think they fear losing the ball. If we can get a 10 that teams fear it will create more space for our wingers. I like Page and I'm certainly not going to knock him, but he shouldn't be starting at his age and development stage. He needs 20mins here and there. If we can get Bilal back I think we will look more fluid in attack. I like the current system. It's a bit pragmatic but I'd rather that and 3 points then fluid football and 75% possession and lose. If it stops working I hope we have a manager that will change the system.
-
Luke Thomas gets a lot of stick but he is the perfect full back for Monga and Mavididi. Especially, in the present system where the fullbacks don't bomb forward. It's the same with Fatawu and Hamza on the other side. It reminds me of how Raneri set up his defence. I think this is why we look so secure at the back. Having out and out wingers with like for like on the bench is brilliant and why Kasey was sold. Its great for Monga's development to have a system where he can concentrate on attacking and pressing knowing he has Luke behind him sitting with the rest of the back 4. Like all, I'm really excited to see what he produces.
-
He reminds me of Simpson in the RB role. He plays the position more traditionally and therefore is rarely seen out of position. He has the talent to play the ball forward as well. Justin was always caught out of position, and I thought it was telling that when Ricky came on so did Faas to help cover the space he leaves when he goes forward. The system changed when he was introduced. I think Hamza and Thomas really suit the system we've played in the last two games where the fullbacks sit deeper to allow the wingers the licence to thrill. The midfield two are then expected to cover the space between and a CB can also step forward out of the line to break up play.
-
We need to be braver. Since scoring, when we've had the ball, we've looked to keep it. This has meant going sideways and backwards until there press has forced us all the way back. I think this is a hangover from last season where we coughed up the ball and the opposition scored. If we can keep winning confidence will build tho. We are only 3 and a half games in.

Bilal El Khannouss joins - Official
Product of 84 replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
I really dislike the transfer window still being open 4 league games and 1-2 League cup games into the season. If we play him and he has a great game tonight; rips Birmingham to shreds. One of the Prem teams will take him. If we don't play him we 'protect' him and ourselves from the above. I think the club have been shrewd here (hard to imagine). We've sold enough to keep him and Fatawu. "We want to keep our best players". And the 'protect' line is a perfect excuse for not playing him. In a few weeks we'll be over the moon if we've kept Fatawu, Bilal, Mavididi and Monga. These 4 will help us be Prem ready should we return. We need the window to close. Then we can build team identity. At the moment there is too much transfer drama. -
Next Ex Leicester City Player to be relegated

Does this team stay up? I was quite surprised how they fit into a team. Just a Right Winger Short. Hermansen Justin Fofana Maguire Castagne ? Dewsbury-Hall Youri Barnes Maddison Wood -
I don't disagree but there must be a tipping point where we can start replacing what we are selling. I think we can lose Faas and Kristenson without a direct replacement but we still need a striker. Also if Winks goes he will need replacing with a cm. I also think El Khannouss will need replacing if he departs. I'm hoping we are selling enough that we don't need to sell El Khannouss. Marti said we want to keep our best players. If he is desperate to leave (I imagine he is) but we are stronger financially we can hold out for the right fee. I'd love to see a leader come. A nasty one. Someone horrible to play against.

Wouldn't it be great if we've sold Justin and McAteer so we don't have to sell El Khannouss. -

Well that ends the debate over whether he can play 8, 9 or 10 for us. I feel very conflicted. We clearly need the money- either to balance the books or to create a transfer pot. Selling our 4th choice winger with other players in and around the squad that can also play his position for over ten million seems like great business. But he was one of our own and I'd have rather seen other players depart.
