  1. How depressing. Let’s hope with some of Trump’s more extreme rhetoric like trying to deport 15m people, and possibly going after press, opposition, civil service, etc, that he was just trolling the left. As always we’ll need to see what he actually does.
  2. If anyone wants something a bit more challenging that gives something of the mathematical flavour behind many of the topics in physics, I can recommend Leonard Susskind’s lecture series. I worked my way through several of them about 12 years ago, and you start to feel as if you’ve got a bit more of an insight compared with the usual Discovery type stuff. Unfortunately most of it has now deserted my aging mind but I still look back on that as a period where I really learned something at the time. I assume the series are still on YouTube or somewhere. Doubt whether he’s still producing new stuff. Edit:
  3. Started well but a bit on the back foot towards the end of the half. Need a Cooper pep talk
  4. Just our luck they’ve sacked their manager just before we play them twice. No doubt they’ll suddenly go on an amazing run.
  5. Well he tried as hard as he could, plus much has changed since 2016. The guardrails are significantly weakened, particularly with the current Supreme Court and its bizarre decisions. The right are much more focused on distorting voting rules and I wouldn’t dismiss Project 2025 lightly either. The argument that Trump’s done 4 years so must be harmless is entirely bogus in my opinion. Edit: Acknowledging others have made similar points above more articulately.
  6. Yes I found it frustrating that he didn’t seem to get to the punchline, though I’m only about 25% through I think the moment has passed. Interesting stuff though
  7. It all depends on whether you think you’ll get the chance to vote again in a free and fair election. I don’t think Americans can take this for granted if Trump gets in. Whatever you think of him as maybe just a joker or a clown, probably quite incompetent at being a real bad guy, he’s got some really dark people around him who might be more competent. I guess we’ll see.
  8. Bezos keeping his head down in case Trump gets in. Won’t want any retribution that might affect his business. Probably see a lot more of this sort of thing.
  9. Whatever the question, Trump cannot possibly be the answer. Right wing populism is a cancer eating away at western democracy, and I see no end to it.
  10. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2024/oct/25/mcdonalds-e-coli-outbreak Wonder if he washed his hands?
  11. Would have settled for a draw at 2 - 0 down, so fantastic comeback. Perhaps we can put the slow start down to post international week sluggishness. Overall the best performance of the season so far.
  12. Mavs having a shocker so far
  13. Praying for a draw
  14. He talked over her quite a bit as well. I’ll get round to the full thing eventually.
  15. I thought she did as well as could be expected in the clips I’ve seen. Admittedly, I haven’t seen the whole thing and these clips were from msnbc.
  16. I’m still sure this chart of Trump’s media company value is the best guide to who is likely to win the election (in a relative sense) and horrifyingly it shows momentum swinging to Trump. https://www.tradingview.com/chart/?symbol=NASDAQ%3ADJT
  17. Was wondering how deep we were nested. Lost track 😂
  18. The reason I remember it is that you went on and on in the climate thread about something I supposedly said in the Covid thread and I was rather taken aback. Anyway, don’t want to stink up this thread, best leave it there.
  19. I think you made the same exact quote when I said I’d caught it for the first time about a year ago and was asking for advice here amongst people who probably had more experience than me regarding worries I had about passing it on the my 96 year old father. It really seemed to upset you that I even asked. I live in Western Australia, and for a long time not many people here had caught it, so the cheap piece of Chinese plastic coupled with my own lack of symptoms over the preceding years was probably quite accurate.
  20. I think the excess mortality rates backed up the Covid count
  21. TBF they are sometimes very difficult to open these days. Getting that sealing bit off certainly raises my blood pressure.
  22. Heroic defending by the Aussies particularly Souttar but really lacking quality elsewhere Now 1-1
  23. Brilliant tackle from Harry!
  24. Souttar just about to start for Australia against Japan in a really important match. I don’t think Australia have ever beaten them away from home and I’m not sure if they can qualify for the World Cup if they lose.
  25. Or criticising Putin’s gangster state is anti-Russian
