A promise not worth the hot air that formed the words

As funny as this is, on a serious note, the idea that the current pro-fascist political movements sweeping the world are down to older people is totally wrong. I’m now in my 70s and frequently find myself banging my head against the wall try to explain what’s wrong with Trump to younger people. There’s a load of Trump-curious youngsters around and it it truely saddens me that they can be so gullible.

Elon Musk is a walking advert for why the world needs to come up with some way of curtailing the ability of anyone to accumulate more than say $100m. This is a great deal of money and would not IMO disincentivise budding entrepreneurs from innovation, but would prevent the blatant abuse of unelected power, including corrupt conflicts of interest, that we are currently seeing. It’s probably already too late as these narcissists already have so much control over the levers of power that it would take some sort of revolution, which as well as being unlikely, comes with its own set of problems.

Gave themselves a bloody nose

I’d love to see what’s left of the democracies stick firmly together and call him out. Cowering and flattering him is completely useless. It just emboldens him to continue with his lies and bullying. Great to see Macron fact check him live to his face. If no one reacts to the fire alarms going off, everyone will just carry on as normal until we all burn.

I don’t think the other shysters around Trump have the “charisma” (couldn’t think of another word) that Trump has so maybe the Maga crowd wouldn’t be so easily deluded.
-
Seems his popularity is already falling. Hopefully continue to do so. Less than 2 years I believe until mid term elections and perhaps he’d be a lame duck for the 2 years after that. This assumes that there are ever free and fair elections again in the US of course and I don’t think this can be taken for granted. Would be wonderfully poetic if a severe bout of Covid carried him away.

Really used to hate seeing people leave early, but can’t blame them now.

How does this team do in the Championship?
WigstonWanderer replied to hejammy's topic in Leicester City Forum
Goodnight will go back, Mads will move on. Maybe lose BEK and Ndidi. Is anyone else worth having? -
Nearly missed this as I’d thought it was on Saturday. So glad my wife told me it had been played last night, so I watched it on demand without knowing the score
-
Doubt it would make any difference and who would want the job anyway?

Time for what’s left of the democracies in the world to unite in calling out the lies from Trump, Putin and their cohorts. The more they acquiesce by staying silent, the more emboldened these demagogues get.

Seems to be bad news everywhere at present. Gives me a queasy feeling in my stomach. Looks like we’re going to get 3 years of Liberal/Nationals (read Tories) rule here in Oz with the forthcoming election. Dutton is a culture wars warrior and has a pathological hatred of renewables. He’ll use a bogus nuclear option to try to discourage investment in renewables so that his pals can mine more coal & gas. Hopefully there’s too much momentum now to slow the transition to EVs and renewables more widely.

As someone who’s considering a solar battery for the house and a BEV, I certainly wouldn’t touch any Tesla equipment

LCFC 0-2 Arsenal | Post-match thread
WigstonWanderer replied to Phil Mitchell's topic in Leicester City Forum
Shame about the collapse at the end, but until then I thought it was the best defensive display for a while. -
Outside chance of staying up with Wilf back

Man Utd 2-1 LCFC - Post Match Thread
WigstonWanderer replied to StanSP's topic in Leicester City Forum
Wheels fell off when Wilf went off as far as I could see. I’m hoping results will improve if he’s back. -
Thanks for setting the record straight and yes, I agree that it shouldn’t be used in the current context. It means that my reply to the original post is probably inappropriate. However, he did talk a couple of days ago about Gaza becoming the Riviera of the Middle East, apparently absent the Palestinians which is surely ethnic cleansing.

It seems American democracy is there for the taking Orban style. Only the courts seem to stand in their way and with the tossers in the SCOTUS I can’t see how it can be stopped if that’s what they really intend to do.

FFS What a totally inhuman cvnt he is. This goes beyond just trolling lefties. I think this really is how his mind works. I thought the Israelis might go for a clean out and land grab but didn’t imagine the USA might get directly involved. He definitely wants a slice of the pie. Perhaps he and Netanyahu might fall out over divvying up the spoils.

Ruud van Nistelrooy - New Manager - Official
WigstonWanderer replied to moore_94's topic in Leicester City Forum
Can only see us getting another 8 or 9 points this season, so almost certain relegation. With the players on hand I can’t see replacing the manager would make any difference. -
Well done. I need to lose 5kg to get back to just being ordinarily fat! Seems to be getting more difficult as I get older. The pleasures of life decline with age and one of the few left is eating. Not much pleasure in football either these days.

I doubt if this omelette can ever be unscrambled.

Everton 4-0 LCFC, post match thread
WigstonWanderer replied to Phil Mitchell's topic in Leicester City Forum
Fell asleep for the last half hour. Only lost 1 - 0 in the second half, so an improvement? -
Sad to see
