This is a fairly generous interpretation.

Nothing of great note given the time frame. As per my previous posts I believe this stems from the reputation he'd built before joining us.

He's not really done anything to engender a positive feeling towards him either.

A lot of the comments feel knee jerk but are mostly due to Martin arriving with a ton of baggage already. They're opinions formed over a long period of time, just not with us. Same happened with Cooper. It will be an uphill battle for him to turn fans around, and even if he gets the wins I fear the style will prevent him getting in people's good books.

We're well off this being an issue. He's got 3 years to get us back to being a mid to playoff challenging Championship club. That would be a successful 3-year stint.

I see we still haven't found Skipp's level. Will go down as one of our worst ever signings.

This style of play has bored everyone to tears so much that you basically have to win games every week to not be under pressure as the manager. It's tedious to watch so unless you have the results, you're gonna be under huge fan pressure. I do think it's easier to organise a semi-decent press than a nice play out from the back at this level too. Which means we'll give chances and thus goals away throughout. Even with all this I don't think a change would illicit a different style. We're wedding to this garbage now. Problems run far deeper than the manager.

He's the perfect fit for us under this ownership. We've learned no lessons as a club from our failures and Russ has learned none from his.

Was struggling through this year but have had a decent run lately. The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. Historical fiction set around the Marias Massacre in 1870. Native American tale with Vampires. Great fun with a few different timelines. Red Rising by Pierce Brown. Was surprised the reviews for this were as positive as they were. It's a light read but felt a lot like riffing on Hunger Games/ Battle Royale to me. Erasure by Percival Everett. What a book. A black author, fairly unsuccessful, apparently due to his novels not being black enough. Set around a whole set of family events and told sort of journal style so we get odd musings interspersed. The work of a genius.

Length of contract looks a bit daft but could well be that Burns would want a higher weekly wage if he was only guaranteed it for 2 years. Might not be the financial catastrophe. Though can understand the feeling that it is given our track record.

It's weird how little some have analysed our 2016 success. "Was he there during the success": yeh but he had bugger all to do with it, and has dismantled a lot of the good which was built by Pearson, Walsh, and Shakespeare. The error was in those in charge diverging from those sensible practices because they got Billy big bollocks and thought we could play with the big boys, when we should have used that excellent foundation to go along the Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton path.

Saw Paddy Power have their odds up now. Was surprised how short our odds were (3.5). Only slightly longer than West Ham to win the Champ (3) and I can see them walking it. Sheff Weds (7) and Luton (8.5) the closest to us. They actually already have us odds on for promotion. Maybe I'm just a pessimist.

Thought when the day eventually came I'd be sad, but I don't think I'll be sad about any of this lot leaving after what's happened. Very talented player who will thrive under the right manager (probably not GON), but right now would prefer the £20m.

Dropping deep can be ok, but you've either got to retain the ball well when you do have it, or maintain a counter attacking threat. We did neither so it was just wave after wave of Argentina attack.

What was with the personality transplant post Croatia though? There we got the England and manager we wanted. Everything about that game was the direction we've been clamouring for, and we didn't see it again all tournament.

At least we still get to watch us get pumped by France too.

That England squad is more than capable of beating that Argentina squad. It's 100% on Tuchel.

Was a very even game until we scored and then decided to camp in our own box. Even with those changes what would we have done in extra time? We had completely hobbled ourselves. So dumb, against a very beatable Argentina.

Yeh not winning in a Wembley final when 1-0 up may always haunt us.

Love being involved in these kind of games. Good to see us at the arse end of tournaments regularly.

This is probably where I am too. I don't think we'll go down, but I think there's a very good chance we aren't in any promotion conversation and not sure the bookies have cottoned on to the mess we're in yet.

Gonna go hit up the Southampton forum transfer section to see who we'll have playing for us in a few years' time.
