I think there’s a difference between mocking his English and using that quote as shorthand for how out of touch he was. “We promote” is being quoted because it perfectly captures the attitude at the top of the club, not because people find his English funny. I agree that leaning into broken English pastiches isn’t great, but most people aren’t doing that. They’re pointing out how wildly wrong the statement was. As someone working in marketing analytics, no thing's worse than teams that haven't refreshed themselves in 10+ years.
