Smuts' NFL Thread
SouthStandUpperTier replied to General Smuts's topic in General Football and Sport
Had a cheeky bet on the Browns last night as I don't think the Steelers are as good as their record suggests. -
The mystique that Italia '90 garnered has always bewildered me. Its only redeeming features really being Nessun Dorma, Toto Schillaci, Gazza crying and Roger Milla. The football was, by-and-large, awful. England stumbled their way through and only really played well for about an hour of the W Germany semi-final. It has the lowest goals-per-game of any World Cup. And the final was hideously unwatchable.

Sayings, axioms, adages etc that appeal.

https://www.mlb.com/news/yogisms-best-yogi-berra-sayings# In addition to his sublime play on the diamond, the legendary Yogi Berra was known for his memorable quips. His quirky sayings helped sculpt his lovable image and made him a celebrity who transcended baseball, even though he sometimes denied having said some of the phrases attributed to him, once saying, "I really didn't say everything I said." Whether or not he said them verbatim, one thing is certain: Berra's quotes have entered the American lexicon like few athletes before him and they helped make him one of the most beloved figures of his time. Here is a sampling of some of the most famous sayings that have been attributed to the Yankees icon. • Perhaps his most famous of all: "It ain't over 'til it's over." • "Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical." • On posterity: "I always thought that record would stand until it was broken." • "You can observe a lot by watching." • "If the world were perfect, it wouldn't be." • About a St. Louis restaurant: "No one goes there anymore. It's too crowded." • About the effect of the sun in left field in the old Yankee Stadium during late-season games: "It gets late early out there." • About Bill Dickey: "He learned me all his experience." • "If people don't want to come to the ballpark, how are you going to stop them?" • "We made too many wrong mistakes." • "Pie a la mode, with ice cream." • "I wish I had an answer to that, because I'm tired of answering that question." • "You tell the stupidest questions." • "Never answer an anonymous letter." • On the great Sandy Koufax: "I can see how he won 25 games. What I don't understand is how he lost five." • On lining up for a Spring Training drill: "Pair 'em up in threes." • On the 1973 Mets: "We were overwhelming underdogs." • The recording heard on the Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center's phone: "This message won't be over 'til it's done." • "In baseball, you don't know nothing." • On being honored in his hometown of St. Louis during his rookie season: "I want to thank everybody for making this day necessary." • "The future ain't what it used to be." • "Why buy good luggage? You only use it when you travel." • On pregame preparation: "I usually take a two-hour nap from 1 to 4." • On advising a young player trying to emulate the great Frank Robinson's swing: "If you can't imitate him, don't copy him." • "I'm not going to buy my kids an encyclopedia. Let them walk to school like I did." • "All pitchers are liars or crybabies." • On his hitting approach: "I can't think and hit at the same time." • "So I'm ugly. I never saw anyone hit with his face." • "He hits from both sides of the plate. He's amphibious." • "When you come to a fork in the road, take it." • On economics: "A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore." • "Always go to other people's funerals. Otherwise, they won't come to yours." • And last but certainly not least: "It's deja vu all over again." -

Actually wish I was going tomorrow now, just to see how many of our gullible fans rage at not getting their free dumplings. -
TV Shows I'm Never Going To Watch Again
SouthStandUpperTier replied to Parafox's topic in General Chat
For me; MOTD - the only reason you'd possibly watch it now would be for the analysis, which has always been very basic and dumbed down on MOTD. Cats Does Countdown - unless they can find a way of bringing Sean Lock back from the dead. -

It would be pretty difficult to watch Crossroads 'again' as it was binned off in 1988, unless you've got all the episodes recorded on VHS. Banger of a theme tune though. -

If it stops him tw@tting shots into The Soar then it could be a net benefit. -
Palace just lost 3-2 at Villa with the last kick. But at least they have a go.
-
At least they created a couple of decent openings. Unfortunately both fell to HC.

Just before HT as per.

Lineker’s last season with MOTD
SouthStandUpperTier replied to Mullet1's topic in Leicester City Forum
Just over 3m, although a lot depends on which teams are on I suppose. These are the latest figures are for the 2nd of Nov episode. https://www.barb.co.uk/viewing-data/most-viewed-programmes/ -
Excuse making is not going to do us any good now. The injuries have happened and we have to get on with it. One thing is certain though, we are not going to 0-0 our way out of this mess. It's time to be brave and have a go. Crystal Palace have realised that, and we have a much better squad than they do, even accounting for the injuries. At the very least it will give fans a reason to go and watch them.

Even before the injuries started to bite they were incredibly negative. Game by game xG Season total xG Season total attempts on goal

If you can even call it analysis. It's mainly just cliches and meaningless platitudes. -
YET ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL BREAK

There's too much football full stop, regardless of what type it is. It's very nearly done eating itself. -

Mike Whitlow. Just...Mike Whitlow. -
I would highly doubt that since her expertise is in business, not football. But nothing would surprise me when it comes to KPFC.

She's a director, but she's not DoF.

GENERAL SALE - West Ham and Brighton
SouthStandUpperTier replied to Foxes_Trust's topic in Leicester City Forum
It's good that at least some games are going to general sale. Now if only they'd lower the ticket prices to something reasonable I might consider buying one. -
I think he continued in the DoF role alongside being first-team manager, combining the two. I think combining the two roles has continued with Miquel, as evidenced by the 2 signings she brought with her from Reims.
