Same, one month in 2012 when I just started working we got told the day before that pay date will be missed due to human error. We were told that if we were out of pocket (e.g. missed a direct debit because no funds in your account or opportunity cost of missed interest) you could make a claim and the company would make you whole. I made a claim and it got paid no questions asked. I think people are underestimating how important pay day is.

There is no way they had never been told they were being paid early this month. If that was the case, this latest email would not have caused a stir. Your pay date is not and never will be an assumption, unless you go to work for fun and don't need the money. It's the most important part of the month for myself and hundreds of millions of other working people across the world. I bring forward DDs (not mtg, utilities but things like investments, credit cards) for the day after pay date. There is no reward for keeping money in a current account, I sweep it all out immediately as do countless of my friends.

My company, and I am pretty sure every company in the world ever, will have their pay dates listed and communicated. It's literally the only reason you come to work, to get paid. People kinda wanna know when they get paid

Yep exactly, that and with payment systems not operating due to bank holidays. It's not a nice cuddly gesture LOL

It's not a 'nice practice' LOL. Your employer might have fed you that line but the reality is staff are off over the period and with the bank holidays systems will also be down and it's not worth the risk to stick to the usual pay day. So get them paid early and go away. Also, people organise themselves around the dates they are paid. Some of my bills, investments, savings, card payments are all set to the day after pay day so I don't have to keep any money in my current account. I know countless others who do the same. To be told with 20 hours that will change causes unnecessary work and stress if you can't the payment date.

Yeh man, it's great for resilience training. Falling asleep drunk on a tube again and figuring out your way home from Epping/Ealing Broadway at 1.30am in -4 before the night tube started. Myself and a mate went to Milan for a pizza after one night out in London as the 06.25 flight was showing as £15, was slightly pricier to get home.. Amongst many other stupid things that developed our problem solving skills.

Yes saving millions of lives as well, I am led to believe that is a good thing to do. Unfortunately we have created a material cohort of the population who are happy clappers and hate good business, opportunity, commerciality and sound long-term investments.

Would go to Jersey bulls more as there's a good group of people there and it's a laugh. However they all do seem to be more concerned with talking about how amazing non-league is rather than actually enjoying the amazing non-league. Would go on a few away trips with them too if city didn't exist. No connection like with city at all though, i don't care if they win, lose or draw. It's solely a good social.

Funnily enough you could pretty much exactly swap Paris/France for London/England in your post and that would be verbatim what my colleague Vincent in the French firm would say about his city. Familiarity breeds contempt and going to a city for a few days every year builds an unrealistic picture of what it actually is. That said I have been to Paris 3 times this year and it defo feels like it has cleaned up significantly. Obvs it cannot compare to the talk about about Texas/New Orleans above which is world renowned vibes and culinary delights, but it is not trying to.

That's a very interesting read. I don't know anything about the game, but when I was in the States I was intrigued by the college sports system. Huge crowds, huge TV audiences, my colleagues used to get together and watch games in the same sense UK people do for league football. The stadium where a lot of my colleagues graduated from (James Madison) was a 20k arena. But it's University sports teams... Do you mean the college teams are playing matches in Ireland and Wembley? I know the NFL play matches abroad but didn't know that had spread to College

I was at the pub on Saturday whilst Rangers v *insert name of some sh1t Scottish team here* was on. It was horrendous, laughable. And I thought the champo was a joke. Even Luke Thomas would stand out at that level.

2 nights was enough in all. Houston was dangerous but lively, seemed like a proper fentanyl American city. Only went to Dallas to watch wwe, can’t remember much else about it. The best part about going to Texas is driving from city to city, stopping in a town like Schulenberg (template strip mall with McDonald’s, Taco Bell, chik fil a, Verizon) and watching their minds explode when you talk in an English accent

Yep all 4 a couple of years ago for the f1. Dirty sixth in Austin is unmatched for atmosphere and fun bars but obvs it was f1 weekend. If you have time would consider going to New Orleans, completely unique experience.
