With Rodgers he just played generic possession football and a standard 4-3-3. Nothing special about him it was all the players who got him all the success. They were easily all champions league starter level during most of his tenure. Always played shit subs and didn’t know what to do when a team put 10 men behind the ball and relied on Tielemans, Maddison or Vardy to save the day. Even defensively we relied a lot on Soyuncu’s best years and a generational talent in Fofana. Once them two both ****ed off we got relegated with a shocking defence. With Maresca he turned Vestergaard of all people who everyone me included thought was a flop into our best CB, made Ndidi an exciting attacking midfielder when before he couldn’t step into the attacking half of the pitch without getting dispossessed, got an academy player Rodgers probably didn’t even know the name of to be one of our top scorers and he always makes the right subs to change a game. 10/10 couldn’t reasonably ask for more. Of course we lost to Hull but we can’t win them all.

Play Nelson and Wanya. Let them get game time the league is piss easy.

Its an unpopular opinion sure. Imo he will be fine in the Championship where the likes of Ipswich can be 2nd even though they are newly promoted and couldn’t even win the division below. But his one footedness and mediocre at best first touch will be found out in the PL.

If a newly promoted side that didn’t even win league 1 can rack up 25 points from 10 then it has to be more the latter.

We could easily get 110 pts on current form.

Contracts due to run out: Vardy, Iheanacho, Vestergaard, Praet, Ndidi, Albrighton Players due to leave at the end of loan spell: Casadei and Doyle. Other players who are looking to leave: Soumare, Daka, Souttar, Ward, Kristiansen and maybe KDH. Another good 8+ players should be leaving so looks like we will have another rebuild on our hands.

Andre Trinidade from Fluminense. The next Fernandiniho. He plays the Harry Winks role but he can do so much more defensively with tackles and interceptions and can dribble really well too. He has a bit of a competitive streak with 13 yellows card in 37 appearances but it shows how aggressive he is in winning the ball back too. He has the same ability to avoid Harry Winks has but with the engine of Choudhury and a decent dribbler too. Makes him perfect for Maresca’s system and he’s only 22 too.

Decent player but he doesn’t really suit the system much so I wouldn’t mind losing him.

Maresca’s system relies on players that have a good first touch and have a good weak foot because you need to be able to receive the ball in a tight space, not get dispossessed then pass it to someone else nearby. You don’t need to be able to split a defence open like Tielemans at all. You just need to be able to pass it quickly and get it out to one of the wingers who will cause most of the trouble in this system they have free licence to just cause havoc and they don’t really have to be part of the build up. We currently have too many players who are decent players all things considered but are either one footed or have a bad first touch. Iheanacho who has been one of the most underperforming players this year has both of these as his main weaknesses. Likewise with KDH and Daka and all the other players that haven’t really featured. Meanwhile players who looked terrible under Rodgers like Vestergaard and Ndidi who have a decent weak foot and a decent first touch are excelling in this system. I think I know why we look like why are in second gear. If you think about it our defensive midfielder (Winks) and inverted fullback (Ricardo) dominate possession like they are supposed to and our defence has only conceded 6 this year (we have been a bit lucky here though tbh). The reason why we have looked as if we are in second gear is because our attacking mids and strikers just aren’t that great at controlling the ball and quickly passing it so as a result they have to take an extra few touches and slow the game down so that they don’t get dispossessed. As a result the speed of our game slows down and it looks like we are in second gear.

Loss aversion is the whole reason the playing out the back debate is even happening. Its a known fact that people feel losses much more than they feel wins. We’ve scored far more playing out the back this year than we have conceded yet people still moan about it.

Forest had to buy a whole new club and Bornemouth look shocking this year. Fulham had to yoyo for a while.

Last year they did well sure but this year the Championship just has no one that looks Premier league level. Its all just sludge. No players have really stood out when we have played them. The championship is much worse than I remember it to be a decade ago.

I am worried for the state of English football. All the promoted teams looking like they are going to be relegated from the premier league and the championship just seems to be rubbish. None of the opposition players have stood out in any games we have played apart from maybe Gustavo Hamer who went to the premier league in the end anyway.

We were already easily winning when he didn’t square the ball anyway so it wasn’t that bad. If he did it against Liverpool in our cup game against them when we had a chance to go. 2-1 up then you would have me seeing red.

I hope we get to see him as a midfielder now as thats his main position.

Out of all the Pep Guardiola school of coaches it seems like Maresca is the best at coaching players. Turned technically terrible players into players capable of playing tiki taka.
