  1. I disagree to some extent. I am a big proponent for the little guy over the big guy. Would rather buy from smaller companies rather than big ones, and local food rather than chains. I have spent most my life working for family firms, and a few years ago, I did move to a FTSE 100 co, but couldn't get on with the ethos so now work for a family firm again. But sport is an escape from life, and the moment I start worrying over the owner is the moment it start detracting from the point of it. I mean, the 49ers now f**king run Leeds United. How messed up is that as a fan? But I've rationalised that by deciding not to let their decisions affect the teams I have followed for years. Changing allegiances based on what owners do is equally ridiculous. I get it... most my time in the States has been summer in the Bay Area, so a big Giants/A's rivalry, so what Jon Fisher has done to the Athletics is criminal, and if the owner takes your team away, you don't have a choice. And thats not even going into the owners getting handouts for stadiums, but me supporting a team or not isn't going to change any of that. The Packers are an exception, but I don't know how it works in practice. I'm sure you have the haves and the have nots and waits of decades for season tickets, so Im sure there are likely plenty of Wisconceners who feel frozen out. So on with the season - and he may be in a different uniform, but hope the Niners smash the Packers' Aaron Rodgers on Monday night!
  2. It wasn't just a graze: The bullet went all the way through him and out out his back. It missed organs, & ribs & didn't seriously damage any nerves anything serious, so pretty miraculous. He's been back at the team facility already and is confident of playing this season!
  3. Just can't tell you how please I am with this, on the basis that the points deduction made no sense in the first place. Our charge was for spending too much - even though we spent far less than at least 6 other teams in the division. Our charge was to counteract a competitive advantage we had by spending too much - even though though that competitive advantage didn't actually exist as we were relegated. Our punishment of increasing the chance of relegation and hitting us massively financially does not align to the point of PSR which is to ensure clubs are financially healthy. The penalties do not relate to the period in which the spend occurred. The beneficiaries of a charge for us this year could well be a club like Ipswich which were in no way hurt by our overspending. Similarly, Everton's penalty for spending more than us the year we went down had no benefit to us as we were in a different division when they were punished. On this basis, I honestly can't see how other clubs could be pissed off at us, other than the clubs that are in a relegation scrap this year and were looking forward to having a points advantage over us which does not relate at all to what will happen on the pitch this year! And probably Forest and Everton who did have deductions last year - although who were very lucky there were 3 poorly equipped clubs that came up, so the penalties ended up being pretty irrelevant anyway. This ruling means the rules have to be rewritten - I just hope they are rewritten to stop a lot of this nonsense.
  4. The reports said he was shot in the chest, but he did not require surgery and he has already been released, so must have just been a graze. Apparently, there were 2 shots fired and the attacker also ended up in hospital where he was arrested. All this in the middle of the afternoon near Union Square - a touristy area of San Francisco.
  5. This has now happened. Gives him a chance to learn more of the game and possibly get some game time. Makes sense in a lot of ways if the Jags are trying to build their fanbase on this side of the pond, but I can't seem to get excited about either LRZ or the Jags. Reminds me a bit of Jarryd Hayne - an Australian who did get on the field and had a couple of big plays, but was never going to become an every day contributor and didn't stick around long. It was a good story and had a lot of column inches, but never really amounted to any tangible production. I don't know if I'm coming or going (and NFL.com's scorebug shows the day but doesn't actually have dates) - season starts in another week! Really interested to see how Harbaugh does. He took over a train wreck of a 49ers team, and gave us an incredible 3 years. A different outcome of a play here or there and they could have won Superbowl XLVII and had another couple of Superbowl appearances. But there were plenty of stories about his intensity, treating players like college kids, being a hard taskmasker and wanting everything done his way. It was unsustainable and it all fell apart in the 4th year. Harbaugh will have matured since then (although even more ingrained in college mentality and more used to everything being done his way) and the NFL has evolved, so I can see the Chargers' season going either way. But I'm hoping he does well, and it won't be boring. (Meanwhile Brandon Staley will be part of the 49ers braintrust for this year!) Something about Pete Carroll has always really got up my nose. As has that shade of lime green! But he's now gone, so a new era in Seattle. Might take a year or 2 for them to forge a new identity, but I'll dislike them a bit less going forwards!
  6. I ended up listening to the Spurs game on Talksport. Albrighton was one of the co-commentators, and did a great job. Very insightful. And particularly at half time when the others were writing us off! Wouldn't surprise me if he's been offered more media work & that could be part of the reason for this.
  7. 2024 roll call... With the 53 man rosters set and the season starting on Thursday night, who's here for another year & how's your team shaping up? We should have our usual strong 49er contingent with myself, @Lako42, @Lillehamring decked out in the red and gold, and looking to go one better than that painful OT defeat that ended last year. Team hasn't lost much from last year and with a good rookie class and Purdy having had a full offseason (unlike last year where he spent the off-season recovering from arm surgery) should be stronger. Biggest concerns remain the strength of the offensive line which don't look to be a priority for the team, and the hold outs (ins?) of Trent Williams and Brandon Aiyuk. Hold outs have been the story of the last couple of off-seasons with first Deebo Samual and then Nick Bosa holding out and missing training camp and having down years as a result. I think Trent Williams gets done quickly, and with his experience, missing training camp won't be a massive factor but Aiyuk is the bigger story. He was the leading receiver last year, but my feeling is that I could do a good job catching if the defence was worrying about McCaffrey, Samuel and Kittle, so he is probably valuing himself a bit too high. I think he'll miss some games, and it will either hurt the team or give other receivers the chance to step up. So a 4th straight NFC Championship appearance wouldn't be a surprise and anything could happen from there. But my biggest hope for the season is that the Chiefs crater and miss the play offs and I don't have to put up with bl**dy Mahomes or Taylor Swift smirking on my screen.
  8. Notts Forest 3rd is just a plain light blue kit - I'm not going to sully our forum by posting a picture. Given my biggest bugbear with Adidas is away shirts in colours that have never had any connection to the club could be for any club other than the badge - as Adidas just phone it in rather than spending any time or effort, its pleasing to see Forest's much heralded return to them is resulting in just the same lazy rubbish.
  9. Because people can't get tickets. If those seats are being taken by people who are more concerned with being at home than actually watching the game through to the end result, then it pisses me off. I'll meet them at the exit on 85 minutes to take their seats rather than there being empty seats with the game on the line.
  10. Schmeichel's saves vs Copenhagen. I think there was a brilliant one at home, but was bettered by an absolute world class one in the last minute away to rescue a 0-0 draw. Those were the difference between topping that group and qualifying with a game to spare and likely not making it through. (can't find decent videos, so might just be my memory!)
  11. There is a lot there that shows the club are trying. They are addressing a lot of concerns people had around lack of pre-match entertainment, difficulty of picking up tickets, have stopped the clappers being on every seat and have at least acknowledged in a roundabout way people are unhappy with mobile tickets. And yet not one positive comment here. Yes, I hate the way everything has to be phrased to try and put a positive spin which is so badly done and seen through it comes off as treating us like morons, and it doesn't address some of the real issues like availability of tickets and standing areas, but it does feel like they are doing things to improve the fan experience (I puked in my mouth a little using that phrase), so I feel they should get some credit. OK, done. Carry on piling in people!
  12. I follow the sport through the Niners... watch the odd bits from other games and highlights, but wouldn't have a clue about most their players, so would be hopeless at fantasy!
  13. Looks like we might both be right... Danielle Hunter of the Pittsburgh Steelers has worn one in a preseason game: https://uni-watch.com/2024/08/10/steelers-daniels-wears-guardian-cap-in-game/ but the NFL has now approved 6 helmets that give the same protection levels as guardian caps, so it looks as though their advantages may have been oversold. As the article says, they could end up being a mid-2020s quirk in NFL helmet history.
  14. If I remember correctly, Kasper wanted 3 years, and we were only willing to offer 2, so he went to Nice as they were willing to go to the 3 years? This is now that 3rd year - and he'll be spending it playing for Brendon after all.
  15. Maresca's style will result in giving away cheap goals at the back - unless you have Jannik Vestergaard back there. Come on Chelsea - time to break the record fee for a defender...
  16. Watching the game last night, the splodges of colour on the black actually looked well balanced. My problem with it is that it just looks like splodges of pink. If the main colour was a light blue echoing last year's away kit, I think it would work much better & might actually like it. But we've done the pink thing and it was awful - why do we need to go back to pink for a 3rd time?
  17. Better than the fire mock-ups. But not a good shirt at all. Sadly, only to be expected - the last couple of pages have shown just how many bad Adidas away kits we've had. I think back to us in the 1990s - blue home kit, same temple in white, same template in yellow. Classy way to build a consistent brand. There was no need for this c**p. Worst of all, it just doesn't feel Leicester City.
  18. I was going to disagree, but I've been looking at our home shirt history on my son's wall. First shirt I bought was '96-'98 - and nothing has come close to living up to it. ' 03-'05 was simple and I quite liked it (wearing it now!). The Adidas ones merge into 1 for me. The first one' 18-'19 did the job as it was how Adidas would make a Leicester kit and I snapped it up. Since then, its like they have tried to be too clever and failed. As someone who buys a fair few shirts, they are the only home shirts I've bought in close to 30 years, which is actually pretty damning statistic! Looking back though, the '19-'20 does look nice - but it just felt "off" - I think it was that it didn't have enough white on to feel like a Leicester shirt, but it looks better as the years pass.
  19. The FA do discourage heading until about 12 - and coaches aren't allowed to teach heading until then, so there is movement towards it - but I think it will be a long time before it gets more traction. I play 6/7 a-side on an astro pitch. Ball can't go over head high. It doesn't feel odd at all and you don't really miss heading the ball. That said, the Euros was a struggle at times watching teams try and break down defensive structures, and of the goals that were scored, a lot seemed to come from high balls across the box headed back in - which seems more of a tactic than in the past and a good mix up from just trying to pass through. If you took heading out the game, it could swing things too far towards the defensive side.
  20. I know its a rugby shirt and not a football shirt, but they seem to get more alike as the years go by, and its not very often you see something quite like the new Tigers shirt... WTF is going on with all the design choices? 1) Classic stripes but using the green for sublimated tiger stripes - think that is a great idea 2) Having classic stripes on the bottom half and not the top half - pretty stupid, but it does seem to be a relatively common thing they do & I can understand giving space around the sponsor & badge. 3) Gradient pattern going from light to dark as you go down the shirt & having the dark as the sleeves - I thought we'd left most gradients behind in the 90s with good reason. Its like they couldn't decide which of those 3 gimmicks they wanted to go with, so threw them all in at once. And then to have all the inconsistencies with the trim - white collar, silly half-trim on the sleeves (and a lack of red in either design element) and that mess at the bottom, its one of the busiest and worst designed shirts I've seen in a long time.
  21. I was trying to work out where this was an Evington Rd... And as far as I can work out - it is the section below. So was St Stephen's Steet cut through at a later date - those houses knocked down and that awful bank building put up?
  22. He got disillusioned pretty quickly and wanted to come back, but if he came to the UK, his tax residency would revert to the UK and he would have had to pay millions of pounds of tax - so his only choice was to find another club abroad. So even the Ajax move was governed by money. He was there about half of last season, but was injured pretty quickly and hardly played, and as Ajax had one of their worst seasons in a long time there wasn't much media coverage.
  23. I agree with this. A gambling sponsor would be someone like Paddy Power or Ladbrokes where you could go to that company and put a bet on. The fact we are unable to put a bet on BC.Game means I can't really see how its going to make people gamble more. The fact they are paying us however many millions knowing full well the vast majority of supporters won't be able to use the product means that it is clearly part of a scam or money laundering exercise - and they aren't even really trying to hide that fact. It is a very different type of sponsor than a gambling one, and to me, it is even worse. I get a sense of pride seeing Leicester in the papers, on TV or out and about (worldwide exposure after winning the Premier league, Jamie Vardy on the front of sticker albums etc). And not living in Leicester, I'm the local "Leicester fan" so people see the club and results and think of me and talk to me about the games and I feel pride in that. But now they will look at this scam and associate it with the club and it tarnishes that pride in the club. I actually feel more disgusted than pride. It does feel as though the club has been getting greedier and greedier and moving further away from the fans, and having this on the shorts now advertises that fact to the world.
  24. Watching the Euros, I actually like the curve on the shirts extending down on the shorts. Looks really good on Spain with the yellow tying in the red shirts and blue shorts. I'd have liked something similar for us with white shorts and the flash of yellow going across both. Having the navy blue on both over the royal blue feels a bit boring and a missed opportunity, and its not really a club colour.
