  2. @SecretPro The best person to refer to in this debate is on Dr. Layne Norton. He wrote a thesis on this exact topic, and he’s also helped conduct cohort studies in relation to this. Also a few other very credible nutritional experts have also taken part in studies to try and find a solid correlation between an increase of certain cancers and red meat consumption. In general, the increased risk is so minimal is not considered an increased risk. I’m not qualified to really explain why, but with the likes of Layne Norton and others offering explanations I’d confidently say there is no real increased risk unless you decided to eat only red meat every day and nothing else… but any negative health implications from a diet like this is more likely going to be cause due to a lack of other products like fruit and veg, rather than the fact it’s only eating red meat. In terms of diet, those more susceptible to contracting certain cancers will be more down to overall lifestyle choices, like drinking, smoking, not getting enough adequate exercise, not getting enough sleep and generally having poor diet consisting of high sat fat and sugar intake. The combination of all of that would place someone at more risk of contracting certain cancers than someone who was health seeking but also included animal products into their diets. In terms of Cancer, I think the increase is down to a massively increasing population, and better defection methods. Plus it comes in many different forms, for example I had an uncle who had a brain tumour, this wasn’t down to a lifestyle choice, it was something that was down to a genetically default within his body that caused him to develop it. So for example with Sir Chris Hoy, he’s an incredibly fit and healthy guy, his cancer reportedly stemmed from his prostate, which we know is an incredibly common cancer within men, so the likelihood is, even the fittest and healthiest of men can develop it, because it’s more of what I’d consider an genetic problem than a lifestyle problem. Being fit and healthy may help you in your fight against it however. Having said that about health, and the link between meat eating and illness actually being fairly weak, the same can’t be said for the environment. It is clear there is a direct correlation between the production of animal based products (namely for consumption), and the declining environment. I’d suggest it’s definitely more down to the sheer scale of the production that’s the issue….. Its a big problem, being heavily into sport and leading an active lifestyle I rely on high quality proteins in my diet to assist my lifestyle choices, my main sources of protein come from whey, poultry, eggs, dairy and some fish (although I’m conscious of overtaking the seas). I try to be consider where I get my protein from, and I’m happier getting it from corn fed free roaming chicken sources. I haven’t eaten red mean for a fair few years, mainly because it’s one of the bigger contributors towards over farming and the impact on the environment. I think more people who live an active lifestyle and bother about their protein uptake would consider vegetarian or vegan alternatives if the quality of the protein strands could be addressed. Unfortunately, plant protein is not as impactive as animal based proteins. Mainly because they’re lacking in certain compounds compared to animal based protein, and it’s these compounds that yield the positive results. It probably will happen one day, with the rate science is advancing the food industry, it probably won’t be long until a healthy alternative is created, that stands up for entering of vigorous cohort studies, and yields the same results as its animal based products. When that happens, there will be no real reason to pick the animal passed product over a non animal based product…… It’s a developing process but it’s something that really needs addressing now, because the impact it could have could be both massive, and positive!
  3. Hopefully this is a bit of a moment like that game against Villa at home in the PL victory season… (not saying I’m expecting that)….. but in that second half, with the changes of Winks and Fatawu, and the slight formation change we looked a different beast. Cooper hasn’t dismissed the first half and I’m sure he will look to review it, but what it should tell him is that this is a very capable side, that he can trust and be braver with. Could be the type of game that turns the season. Huge game on Friday to back it up with, and I’d say the second half performance proved that man for man we are a lot better than Southampton, and this squad certainly has the ability to comfortably survive.
  4. Ayew scores I’m on the pitch.
  5. I won’t deny that I didn’t think Maresca would work in the PL. But I don’t like Cooper either. I’m resigned to the fact he’s not going anywhere…. To me he is like Steve Bruce was for Newcastle. If we stay up I’ll be fine with, but he can’t be the long term future of this club. One idea I hate is this suggestion we need to disregard any of our recent experience and success, and accept we’re a ‘new PL’ team, because there’s enough experience and talent in this squad to be playing better than we are.
  6. There are plenty of rational posts about why people are still unsure of Cooper…. And despite yesterday’s result there are still a lot of reasons to be concerned…… the euphoria of a late winner against a dreadful team that largely dominated us, still can’t mask the fact there are still a number of issues that can’t be ignored. Whereas I commend the lads spirit for getting back into the game, the real concern is ending up 2-0 down to them, and the fact we were so poor in that first half. The red card and the fact they’re pretty shit contributed to the come back, just as much as the quality on our squad. I just don’t rate Cooper as a coach, I think he’s poor and is still making bad decisions. The negatives can’t be ignored.
  7. Mods.
  8. He’s still ****ing crap.
  9. Winks is one of the names I was given who’s really not happy with Cooper. The pair don’t see eye to eye, and allegedly he’s taken it up higher with his dissatisfaction as Coopers management style.
  10. It’s a huge win there’s no doubt about that. But there were still elements to be concerned about. Still he can’t get the balance of the squad right, and there were definitely some fortunate situations that aided the victory today, not that I want to take anything away from the lads hard work to get back into the game, but the red card and penalty definitely help swing the game massively in our favour. The first half was absolutely dreadful, I thought the midfield instantly improved when Winks came on, even if he is playing poorly, he still has class and quality about him, and you notice little things are missing when he isn’t in the squad. Second half started marginally better, and by the the margin was the size of a fleas testicle, but it didn’t really alter massively until Fatawu came on, and then the red penalty and red card changed the game completely. We took advantage of the situation which is to be applauded, but we should have, considering how poor Southampton are. What was concern no is that when Southampton had 11 on the pitch, they largely dominated us, and we looked just as clueless as always, and there appeared to be no real plan from Coopr until the tide changed and the man advantage gave us a natural edge. Im suggesting the win was more down to the circumstances of the game change, rather than Coopers brilliance. For me, he still isn’t the right man for the job, even after this.
  11. No words really, lucky bastard.
  12. Still Cooper out.
  13. Hopefully Coopers job is in jeopardy for being 2-0 to a relegation rival!
  14. This squad is capable of achieving more. And the second half here has proven it, when our dangerous players are on the pitch we are a handful. He is consistently getting this wrong, and regardless of today’s result, he will carry on making poor decisions because it’s just in his nature. If we had a coach who was braver with their tactics, and more competent we would not be having to scrap from 2-0 against shit like Southampton.
  15. ****ing Jordan Ayew……
  16. He does yes. He is not the right coach to take this club forwards.
  17. What’s happened is, he’s brought the better players on, and they’ve got us back into the game. He still has to be sacked, regardless of what happens today.
  18. Players bailing Cooper out…..
  19. That sub will definitely sort out the right hand side………
  20. So what’s the excuse today then?
  21. Can we sack him at half time?
  22. Why wait? Get rid tonight!
  23. Whoopsie. Thought Southampton couldn’t score goals?
  24. Would help if he had a decent coach.
  25. This a team we pummelled with ease last season……..
