  1. When I've dipped into the show in recent years and out again quite quickly it seems to be an overblown all fur coat and no knickers monstrosity.
  2. Not watch it
  3. Another example of how daft the rules can be
  4. The injury to the Forest player and risk to our player could have been avoided if the assistant had waved for the obvious offside
  5. Yes I would think Dickens work went some way to redress the balance. I did some family research and learnt my great great grandmother died after childbirth. My great great grandfather with kids in tow had to appeal to the local parish for support with burden of proof on how long he had lived in said parish. Not exactly romantic picture of the past
  6. I would imagine a lot of our ancestors lived as serfs. Even in relative modern times people worked as long as possible and ended their days in the workhouse.
  7. Yes. Basically spent time saying not to overreact to the Forest owner on the pitch then overreacting.
  8. Winning the Europa League should only qualify a club direct entry back in the same competition and not the so called champions league imo
  9. We did actually win something though I agree about staying humble
  10. A bit of pride restored today. Nice to rain on Forest's parade
  11. Still looking for mine
  12. Agree about the blackbird song. We also have wren nearby. Little bird big song. I suppose the male birds have to outcompete other males. I find it interesting that female raptors are often bigger than the male.
  13. For the guys and gals etc that live in Leicester what is the feeling of life in and your locality?
  14. Has anybody here heard of The Thankful Villages?
  15. Didn't do the Royals of Europe much good either.
  16. The sheer concentration of heavy, medium and light artillery was mind boggling.
  17. I've always been fascinated by WW1. When I was about 8 I remember watching the BBC landmark documentary series The Great War. The theme music would send chills up my spine. The more recent They Shall Not Grow Old is brilliant
  18. Try the cwgc website. You can search by name and enter other details. Do you know which squadron he served with?
  19. Sorry. Meant to add The Pathfinders I'm thinking of were elite RAF that marked targets. Leonard Cheshire VC was a famous leader
  20. Pathfinders
  21. Churchill ordered Monty to liberate Denmark before the Russians
  22. The Pathfinders were RAF. Could be Chindits as they were dropped behind enemy lines. Orde Wingate was their commander until killed in air crash
  23. I traced the cwgc for the uncle I mentioned died as a pow of the Japanese. He lies in the Ambon cemetery in Indonesia.
  24. My first job was in a shop. A chap came in looking to buy a toaster. Showed him one and he asked where it was made. Made in Japan. Immediately said no as he was a former pow
  25. Dad was a despatch rider badly injured in accident which was a blessing in disguise as a lot of his mates were lost later in Normandy and Germany. Uncle was at Dunkirk. Another Uncle died in a Japanese pow camp in June 1945 so after VE day but before VJ day. Other Uncles survived after fighting in Italy and Far East. Grandad was shipyard worker on Tyneside and worked on ships like HMS Kelly. Other grandparents bombed out in London blitz but ok
