I think there's fair arguments for either. However at the time, Daka looked like a good deal. Ayew never did. So in terms of it being a bad signing I suppose you might factor in that one performed really well at a lower level and was bought in the hope they'd replicate that at a higher level. The other was bought knowing full well they weren't capable of playing at the highest level anymore if they ever were, whose only apparent attribute that warranted a purchase was "premier league experience". The first didn't deliver on the promise, the second basically gave us what we expected.

You just reminded me on Romero, after the controversy he actually came back to England to watch the turgid but important final match against Everton. However that meant he missed seeing his boyhood club record their first ever Primera Division title with a dramatic comeback 3-2 win over River Plate. He'll be despised among many Spurs fans now and he missed out on seeing the moment you'd assumed he's been waiting to see all his life. What a turnip.
