Victor Kristiansen (an option for Forest, Percy.)
LCFCJohn replied to davieG's topic in Transfer Talk
Just had a look what they are saying. I mean they seem to think he is Swedish for one… And one of the confidently stated he didn’t even look good in the Championship In fairness, there’s a couple of them who aren’t clueless who quickly called that poster out by telling them VK hadn’t actually played in the Championship! -
Only avoided relegation with Carlisle and Southampton, what we were thinking bringing in such a nobody!
-
You really don’t seem to understand that not every team in the league is evenly matched do you….
-
I mean I think Cooper was bad for us but the bolded bit is factually incorrect assuming you mean the season they were promoted. He picked them up in the relegation zone and they finished 4th, 10 points clear of 7th. They were damn lucky in the play off final but to try and pull apart the job he did (as much as I can’t stand them) in getting them up the table just comes across as bitter. They were actually in with a shout of automatics and lost 1-0 to Bournemouth in a bit of a direct shoot out if I remember rightly, with a game or so to go.
-
I don’t disagree. From a financial point of view, it’s a trade off with preparation. It seems he is now available for a much smaller fee, that you could now argue getting him in and preparing for the season provides more benefit but we are hamstrung by our financial position. But yes I agree with the principle. Otherwise, I am just reluctant to give them credit if Rohl comes in as it’s not representative of anything other than doing the obvious thing.
-
Correct. Rohl is an obvious stand out candidate, and due to the situation at Wednesday, is an open goal to secure. Even then, we seem to be making hard work of it, being reactive to the situation at Wednesday rather than securing him. Meanwhile we creep closer to the season starting. I look at it this way, if a striker has an open goal from a few yards out, fumbles it and nearly messes it up before it rolls over the line, you’d say he was lucky and to not have scored would be a huge f*** up. You wouldn’t be heaping praise and credit on him. That is the way I look at the appointment of Rohl. Aiyawatt, Rudkin and co certainly don’t deserve credit if it does go through.

Erm, since when are Turkish sides dropping £65mill! 1h ago13:30 Duran set to sign for Fenerbahce Latest from Sky Sports News' Gary Cotterill: Jhon Duran is flying to Turkey to sign forFenerbahce. The Turkish club – managed by Jose Mourinho – has agreed a deal with Al Nassr, reportedly worth more than £65m. Former Aston Villa striker Duran is expected to sign a contract to 2030

You only have to look at the views of many of our fans, dismissing him and saying he’s achieved nothing because he doesn’t have a promotion to his name. Whether it’s the finances or dealing with Wednesday or down to whether other clubs have deemed him not ready, he has not been offered a better job as yet. So despite everything going on here, it is an opportunity for him to step up to a bigger club and try to get that promotion. I just hope sections of our fans would get behind him as I’ve been very surprised by how many have dismissed him already.
-
Yeah very similar, one appearance apart in the PL, a promotion each from the Championship, Mads won the title actually. Trafford probably more reliable as Hermansen seems quite injury prone. And as I say, English players go for more so I’d still expect him to for more. Trafford’s a couple of years younger as well.
-
I’ll be disappointed if he stays to be honest. Our better performances and results were with Stolarcryk in goal and I really want to see him make the shirt his own. Hermansen staying blocks his progress. Nothing against Hermansen, I just hope he moves on.

Ok fair. I felt there were people turning noses up at Rohl who would have been buzzing for Maresca but I can see what you are saying. I think Rohl’s credentials are actually better than Maresca’s when he joined. But we are also a worse side than the one that came down and in a worse position financially. The league is also stronger this time round. So I’m not sure what to expect if he comes in.
-
Just curious, regarding the bolder bit, what did you think of the Maresca appointment?

For whatever reason though, we were scoring in each game and ‘in it’ from a score line perspective. I’m not saying he wasn’t bad, but in so many games under RVN, we were blown away. Was it pure luck? Or was there even just a slight bit more belief in the side that they could stay in the game? I don’t know. It was still a decent number of games to purely be riding luck and nothing else. -
I think people should feel safe out of work and family should certainly not be targeted. However supporters are entitled to make feelings know about awful performance whether that is players, managers or a director of football. You do want to see this in a constructive way though. That said, people work long hours in minimum wage and get abuse all day long so I struggle to have sympathy with the man himself. He is earning more than most could dream of and doing a terrible job. Nobody is forcing him to stay, he is choosing to do so, presumably for the money. I would question how much it really effects him as if it did, why wouldn’t he think, sod this I’m off?
-
Erm, Trafford made 28 appearances for relegated Burnley last season in the Premier League. Hermansen made 27 appearances for relegated Leicester. Neither have made a senior international appearance but have for u21’s. English premium as well so there’s no metric that Hermansen goes for the same or more than Trafford.

Also the only time Sheffield Wednesday resembled a football team (apart from under Rohl) since the 1990’s was when he was there.
-
Absolutely, this is the point I have been making. People look at his age and (lack of) time so far as a manager but doing that job even for 18 months will have matured him as a manager well beyond his years. He’s also got a lot more in terms of his experience going for him than Maresca when we took a chance on him. I wonder how many of those turning their noses up at Rohl were the same about Maresca. Maybe they were also dubious. Or were people falling over themselves for Maresca as he had been working for Pep? Rohl also has a strong background as assistant and coach with the likes of Bayern under Flick and the German national team. And his first job as manager has been streets ahead of Maresca’s failure at Parma. I just disagree with people saying he has done nothing in his time at Sheffield Wednesday as that is factually wrong, not even something that is subjective and for opinion. To say he has done nothing also shows a lack of knowledge of football and assumes that doing ‘something’ equals only promotion and that all clubs are operating on an even keel.

Going back up is obviously beneficial from a short term revenue increase point of view. However, if we want to stay there and get our finances under control, we need to revamp the squad in a sustainable way. I don’t see that which Dyche as I worry the recruitment would be the type we saw last summer under Cooper which would not be doing the job needed of bringing down the wage bill. The only way to do it is to use the young players we have and lose the older heads on big wages.
-
I think these are fair concerns. Regarding tenure length, I just try not to be concerned with this. I’d rather have a manager who is likely to be wanted than one we will be stuck with. And managers tenures seem to be so short now anyway. The well run clubs just make sure they have a route they want and a contingency plan so that if their manager goes, they have someone ready who will carry on the work. A lot to ask for from our lot I know! The second point as well, maybe. He’s obviously gained experience beyond his years in management at Wednesday in many ways that would set him up well here. I think even Dyche won’t have the experiences Rohl has gained. With possibly points deductions, embargo, incompetent Thai owner etc, Rohl has a lot of experience to offer. In terms of the concern you have raised, I just hope he would be backed by the club. At the end of the day, I don’t want us to bring in a manager to pander to the toxic lot. Hopefully some will be shifted out this summer and he would remove any others from consideration like RVN did with Winks and Vestergaard.
-
Weird move. He was really good for Preston. He’s only 28 as well so seems young to just give up on playing. Clearly gone there for the money and must suit him not playing. Id like to think that if I was a professional goalie, I’d rather be first choice for Preston than sit around and never play for Liverpool.
-
Bloody hell, one year left? That’s just poor sense from Brentford. Feels like they are just being different/awkward for the sake of it. He’s a decent player, not worth that. If Man Utd are willing to pay it, more fool them. I don’t like saying this as we have been on the end Brentford are there and we are hate how the rich clubs just come and pluck our best players. But that is greedy by Brentford. They have an excellent deal there with the player in question and having only a year left.
-
What did you think to the Maresca appointment out of interest? And you’re not being argumentative. You’re seeing it in a different way and actively wanting to be convinced and feel positive so just trying to help with that!
-
I think it’s because more recently, Dyche has failed. He seems to be on the way down so it’s a more interesting prospect to have a guy on the way up. Rohl has done a much better job at Wednesday than expected. He has also been there in very challenging circumstances. Dyche has worked ion a budget but Burnley were at least well ran. Rohl will have gained experience much beyond his management years at Wednesday. The fact he has worked for a similar owner to Aiyawatt in Chansiri, has worked on a budget and the position he picked them up in could have been a points deduction the distance they were behind. These are all things that he will face or could face if he comes here. Despite his young age and lack of years in management, it feels he might just have the experience to navigate our position. I’ve been an advocate for Wellens but even he has done well on a budget at Orient but at least with them being run well and on a level playing field (as in no embargo’s or deductions). Whereas Rohl has done all that.
-
Interested in what about Rohl makes you think he is no suited? Good enough or not is a very subjective thing as while suited or not is also subjective, the fact he has worked for a clueless Thai owner, in difficult circumstances budget wise, pulled Wednesday back from a position that was almost like a points deduction with how far behind they were when he started. All good signs in him having some good experience that would benefit him with us next season if he joined.
-
You might have inadvertently highlighted the true reason he wants to leave Sheffield Wednesday! Forget Chansiri and not getting paid etc, up here this would translate to ‘Danny Breadcake’!
