I think you’re overstating something that is really a non-issue. All managers (and certainly top flight ones) will be looking in on the Euro’s on a scouting and professional interest level. Being in and around the event also helps maintain / build key industry contacts (players, agents, coaches). Being a pundit is just a handy side hustle to complement what managers will be doing anyway. Plus I don’t see what imperative work a prospective new manager would need to do over the Euro’s that couldn’t be done alongside what would be relatively minor commitments - plus if the job was offered and taken, Moyes could even step back from those if he felt it was appropriate to do so. Also note there are other ‘in work’ managers that don’t seem to see this media work as an issue - for example Ange is part of ITV’s crew as is Danny Rohl, Rooney is working with the beeb and given the sheer number of international broadcasters all requiring punditry of some form I’m sure there’s plenty others doing stuff be it for TV / radio / print / online media.

Who did they sign from us to make you do it the first time?
-
I think he’s destined to wear red pretty soon. His midfield energy would really add something to the engine rooms of either Liverpool or Manchester United - he’s their type of player. Add in he’s English, easily marketable - won’t be going to the Euro’s (so would available for tours / start of season) - and seemingly uncomplicated, I’d be amazed if they didn’t go in for him. If it’s not this season it will be next barring injury.

Amartey mark 2?
-
I don’t know - signing him would generate an extra level of exposure for Como and it’d probably be a season or two contract with the option of one more and a relegation release, making it potentially financially workable. Additionally - I think it would be a good move for Vardy himself. I reckon he’s the type of striker that would do well in Serie A (even now), the climate and lifestyle should help ease the aching limbs, he’d become the main man there as opposed to possible bit part here and it’s a new and refreshing challenge to tail end a remarkable career. In a strange way - I’d actually like to see him make the move, go and try for one last hurrah with his Leicester legend secure and finalised with a wonderful campaign.

It’s certainly strange given they clubs clearly aware of those kits nostalgic popularity through the associated merchandise it sells. Mean the Indy Coops are 40 years old now (83-85 season I believe).

Now just waiting for Harry to get a freak injury, putting him out of the Euro’s, thus allowing fate to declare that England than now roar to victory!

Premier League Thread 2023/2024
DJ Barry Hammond replied to Nalis's topic in General Football and Sport
Wow! The collective of this post is horribly elitist and rather blind to history of the club you support. This year was the 8th time in our history we’ve won the second tier title. It’s also the fifth time we’ve been promoted to the Premier League - a joint record we hold with Norwich and West Brom. We’ve ALWAYS been a club that’s flirted between leagues - we even had a fling with League One once! So you know, Sheffield United were promoted on sporting merit, finishing in second place during the 22/23 Championship season with 91 points, 11 clear of Luton in third. Should they have not been promoted? Should they have know their place and not try to break the status quo of those that ‘belong’ in the Premier League. -
39th Premier League Game is back?
DJ Barry Hammond replied to davieG's topic in Leicester City Forum
The leagues that have done this so far with their ‘finals’ don’t have the commercial pulling power of the Premier League. They could not sell a whole round of league fixtures (10 games!) to a foreign market, so they have to make do with a single ‘premium’ fixture. The Premier League could - look how much Amazon are paying just to show two separate rounds of football! Also, as I mentioned and you failed to notice - the Premier League does not directly control the cup competitions or it’s commercial rights - so it really has no interest in any of those finals being held abroad. The Premier League does, however, have a huge interest in getting the ‘39th game’ concept off the ground to help protect itself against the threat of an European Super League. Being able to host a round of 10 fixtures abroad - that guarantees the participation of both Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea etc, etc, etc - would represent eye watering new commercial revenue opportunities, much more than a single ‘cup final’ would represent - and would ensure those clubs would wish to remain part of an English football cartel for at least the next couple of decades. The FA (that does control the cup competitions) on the other hand, have never been as commercially aggressive as the Premier League and will be much less inclined to want their showpiece finals being held abroad. It would also be comparatively expensive for whoever wanted to buy the hosting rights of our cup finals, because the FA make revenue from these themselves via Wembley. That’s why in terms of the game in this country - a strong case can be made to say it will be league games to go abroad as a package first rather than our show piece finals*. * Charity Shield does not count. -
39th Premier League Game is back?

Community Shield aside, you have to go regular season game first, you don’t provide a market with your Crown Jewels event at the first point. Note what the NFL have done in the opposite direction with their ‘football’ - that’s the model the Premier League will no doubt be trying to follow. On a side note, I could see a Super Bowl being played over this side of the Atlantic - because that event ground hops in the US anyway. BUT given the Community Shield, EFL Cup and FA Cup are all ran by the FA who has it’s own vested interests in hosting these at Wembley - these finals may not be as moveable as you think. -
39th Premier League Game is back?

What I don’t understand is why a ‘39th’ game? If the teams want to do this - and of course they do - then why not take a home game from every Premier League team? Mean, it’s not that difficult to envisage - and then you have not just one round of fixtures but TWO! Find a workable spot in the football calendar across the first half of the season and host 10 fixtures across Asia (assuming it’s not monsoon season). Then find another slot for the second half of the season - where you go and put on 10 Premier League fixtures across the US (again weather permitting). -
We’re a bit good here aren’t we.

We need to get wages in or around 70/80% of turnover. With the players out of contract - if we can keep some of them, that will not only give us more transfer money to spend against PSR (which at present, we have to assume is in place) it also means we don’t have to actively replace those players - so I expect contracts to be offered to Vardy and Vesty. IF we could get Ndidi to sign an extension that would be huge. Seems likely Nacho, Albrighton and Praet will be released. Wouldn’t be surprised if we do the same with Ward via a mutual agreement. Of course ideally we’d also like to make some sales - with the likes of Soumare, Christiensen, Thomas and Souttar being prime candidates and maybe Daka. There are also possibly undesired sales to consider - KDH, maybe Mads, possibly Pereira, Justin (2yrs left on contract for those final two). What we can get for those players overall and when will play a big part in what we do the other way. Signing Fawatu is obviously a significant initial transfer outlay. Akgun is potentially another one and who knows about Doyle - and that’s just money to stand still in squad terms. Looking at the potential outs, we’re going to need what - definitely a couple of first team quality midfielders, a left full back/centre back, an inverty fullback, a striker, depth for the wings and a third choice goalkeeper if Ward goes. There’s also an argument that we lack overall quality across the squad so would be on the lookout for direct upgrades on covered squad positions too. But that is a lot of positions to cover. Do we have any youth team players that could make the step up to the first team? Personally I don’t know, but it is a double jump in standard for those players given our promotion. So I think based on this we’ll be trying to deal in the lower end of the transfer fee market, out of contracts and loans this year - not “spend, spend, spending.”
-
No chance of United putting a bid in? I think he’s the sort of player that would do well there - a player their fans would really take to as well. I’d even go so far as saying he has a bit of a Robson air to his play.

What was that nonsense about wanting to do it ourselves on Monday. It is clearly much, much, more satisfying watching your rival **** it up into your hands 😂

Hopefully any points gained from here on can go towards our deduction 😂

Nah - hopefully they’re all in Vardy’s kitchen again!
