I'll be honest alot of possession based managers don't have any plan or tactics imo. Recycle, recycle, recycle. And if that doesn't work, recycle it abit more.

Play such good silky stuff though ah? The way it should be played and fair play to them, they have their principles and won't change, for anyone. Keep it up I say.

Championship 2024/2025 Season Thread
Matt replied to Happy Fox's topic in General Football and Sport
Coventry Another team creating their own problems. Keep it up! Atleast it seems people are finally calling these idiotic things out and asking these teams “what are you doing?!” -
Fantastic seeing Villa concede in such nonsense circumstances!

So, thought i'd go back and have a look where we were at this point in previous PL seasons. 03/11/2024 (Now); Played 10 / Won 2 / Drew 4 / Lost 4 / GF 14 / GA 18 / GD -4 / Points 10. (Position: 15th) 03/11/2022: Played 13 / Won 3 / Drew 2 / Lost 8 / GF 21 / GA 25 / GD -4 / Points 11. (Position: 18th) 03/11/2021: Played 10 / Won 4 / Drew 2 / Lost 4 / GF 15 / GA 17 / GD -2 / Points 14. (Position 11th) Ohhhh, in the 22 season we'd played 3 more games so more chance of more losses and lower position....you wanna go game for game comparison I hear you cry? 2022: Played 10 / Won 1 / Drew 2 / Lost 7 / GF 15 / GA 24 / GD -9 / Points 5. (Position: 20th) Very much all in the same ballpark, difference being 2022 and 2023 we were established in the PL, with a supposedly much better, more expensive team (By far! In terms of both value and wages), yet it was acceptable by many. Yeah, you're right, i've not gone further than those 2 seasons because I don't need to, it argues my point and doesn't fit my 'agenda', but many, in their droves saw no problems whatsoever, in those 2 seasons. And don't give me the "But we weren't playing as poorly" because we absolutely were, we were stinking the place out, as we were in 2017/18, 2018/19 and come January (I'm being generous) of the 2020 and 2021 seasons, with no hard work, endeavor and no fight, atleast we have that this season! We can take it back to the last time we were newly promoted to this league. (Something I feel people are forgetting!) No agenda here, I'm a big Pearson fan by the way and wouldn't have a bad word said against him. 03/11/2014: Played 10 / Won 2 / Drew 3 / Lost 5 / GF 11 / GA 16 / GD -5 / Points 9. (Position 19th)

Read the sentence in full. I'm seeing more to encourage than we did for our previous 2 Premier League campaigns. (Where droves apparently saw nothing wrong ) Like I said in a post the other day, I'm afraid my standards and metrics have been lowered, dramatically, due to those 2 painful and sorry previous Premier League campaigns. For many years, even last season, under Enzo, when we were up against it, I struggled to see us fight and find a goal to change a result, that in itself is encouraging, whether people wanna claim luck or not. (That's not slight against Enzo btw, but it's the way it was, thankfully, we were rarely up against it)
-
Point being, we've scored in every game. Don't get me wrong it's down to chance conversion but I didn't see many pissing and moaning in 15/16. While the media and Tottenham fans were wanking themselves silly over possession, XG and Kane, we were embracing our chance conversation.
-
As I said the other day, it's inevitably going to end one way, because of that i'd rather it sooner rather than later, but people need to accept it's not happening anytime soon. We're doing enough, so far. Be honest; Where did you expect us to be? I think about where we are, maybe even better than I expected, 'lucky' or not. I'm seeing more to encourage and we're showing more fight and endeavor as a team than we did for our previous 2 Premier League campaigns. We have a chance of survival based on the Premier League being shite and full of shite (Of which we're a contributing factor), for me, this season is all about consolidation, staying in the league (Although why? I'm fighting a battle with myself here, like i've said it's a shite, boring league. Financially, we have to though I guess ). I think then, we look at the options and then maybe look to go our separate ways.
-
Because they're masters of their own downfall, playing in a nonsense way, but apparently it's 'sustainable'.
-
Pushing on and fighting for a goal or result when we've been up against it has though, which seems different this year. Besides, the fact people are/were piss and moan about our lack of creation, or concerns of 'where the goals are gonna come from', say otherwise. Then of course you had the snobbery (that never astounds me) towards Ayew, who seems to have been quite an important signing so far.
-
Not denying it. Although people thought Rodgers and passing round at the back was entertaining so it's horses for courses.
-
Still done well though, ah. Or maybe we should be passing it about at the back, where we'd have no chance of scoring. People would love fawning over that.
-
Done bloody well to score in every game so far this season with no plan though ent' we!
-
Well, you'd take it given the circumstances and the way the game was heading. Doesn't make it right but people wanna talk hypotheticals of how we should have won v Palace but threw it away, the opposite here. Don't get me wrong, I want us to be playing well and winning but equally love a shithouse result. It didn't sound great, but people have gotta realise how far we've fallen......Perhaps they should have been careful about what they preached when being careful what we wished for (Yeah, you're right. I'm never gonna let that one drop). As for Ayew and everyone slagging him off, whether they like it or not, he seems to have been quite an important signing.

"Eurgh no". Aka: Football snobbery.

What do you miss from football as it used to be ?
Matt replied to Elsie Effcee's topic in General Football and Sport
I dare say Soccer AM wasn't for everyone but they're doing a podcast, Soccer A-Z, where they go through the alphabet discussing what they miss from football and bringing up nostalgia, pretty decent. -
I'm not Cooper in nor Cooper out, the whole situation is all abit 'meh' very much like the club and game itself, since 21/22 season I've felt very disillusioned with the club and very disinterested in football, period. Do I think we are where I expected? Very much so. Are we on par for what I thought we'd be on so far? Yes, possibly better than I thought. Do I think it's awful? To be quite honest, no. I'm afraid my metrics and standards dropped during the 2 years (Arguably longer) of pain under Rodgers, and as far as I'm concerned what we're currently seeing is not even near comparable, nothing of that sort, especially when consideration of how far we fell and the mess we were left in. However, this is only going end one way and for that reason I'd rather that be sooner rather than later. This whole club needs a rebuild, root and branch and until that happens nothing with improve.

Rivalries Put Aside for ‘Stop Exploiting Loyalty’ Campaign
Matt replied to Foxes_Trust's topic in Leicester City Forum
This hasn’t really got any exposure across the board at all has it? I’m not talking on behalf of ourselves or against the Foxes Trust as this is country wide, arranged by FSA, involving all supporter groups. I’ve seen a few muted posts on social media and that was only because I was looking for it, I bet many don’t even know about it, there’s been no real movement, exposure, discussion, reporting or acknowledgement in the media. I believe it’s over 2 weekends so here’s hoping for more traction in the 2nd weekend. -
What do you miss from football as it used to be ?
Matt replied to Elsie Effcee's topic in General Football and Sport
Great thread idea! I'm one of the main offenders for moaning about football in its current version or that its not what it was but never point out what makes it that way or why it isn't the same. As has been already mentioned, lack of connection to a team, players or manager, authenticity. The feeling of no connection and disillusioned only seems to get worse. Chaos - I mentioned in a thread not long ago how there's a cliché pundits often come out with "It's turning into abit of a basketball game" or "You don't want a basketball game"...No, that, is exactly what we want!! Shithousery - Bit of a contradiction because when I agreed and mentioned authenticity earlier that in itself is shithousery, but what I mean is getting away with things, a sly dig here and there. Characters - we have one of the remaining few characters in the game and this goes for shithousery too, when he finally finished I don't think we'll ever see the like ever again. Flair - for all the fitness and skill players possess in the modern game very few are allowed to showcase it, it seems they get it trained out of them. Very little gets you off your seat nowadays, hard to get excited about 5 yard passes. Teams playing in different ways or styles, admittedly at the time I used to hate the phrase "Playing the [enter team name] way" but i'd rather that phrase and cliché be reality than everyone playing in a one size fits all way, identically, boringly, robotically. Less games on TV - There was still more than enough on TV, but it felt special, it was something to look forward to, and obviously less upheaval to the match going fan. Rivalries and needle - It's all too nicey nicey. I'm sure there will be much I agree with and add to in this thread. -
I don't claim to be any tactic purist, far from it, but I think the system was changed somewhat last night. People are lauding Winks for calling Cooper out, chucking him under the bus, whatever, and that Winks claims the goal came from what we did last season. It may have, but that's also kind of my point, I think they system and way we played last night was similar (No carbon copy, but similarities) to last season, the goal may well have came from playing that way, however stupid, silly defensive mistakes, needless playing out and an actual hammering (That many had been predicting every week) also ensued because of it. It also came across as soft, weak and half arsed.
-
I think i'm broken. Sorry to harp back but the 2020 to 2022 era (2017 to 2022 in all honesty) broke me. That's when I lost interest, became less engaged, I always wrote it off during that period and said that it would come back but i've never regained the passion or interest. It may well be because i'm getting older and with that there are more important things in life to worry about, but I find myself with little to no feeling or emotion about it all. Last night was just a feeling of general "meh", whatever, numb. That in itself is horrible. I still go to games and post on here but only out of habit, routine and the fact i've spent most of my life invested in it. If I were a kid growing up now I reckon i'd have no interest in football whatsoever. I dare say this is a similar situation for most of our fanbase which goes a long way to explaining our dire atmosphere.
-
"They play with courage", "Why should they change?". A couple of comments i've just heard when they've just been discussing Southampton. Erm, because it's a load of bollocks and nonsense By all means carry on though!
-
Reminder that people applauded relegation.
-
Full of tourists. More concerned with their selfie sticks, go pros or filming the away fans (seriously).
-
Thought when we got it back to 1-1 we’d push on but nope. Poor. Beyond poor. What did strike me is we set up and played a similar system and style to last season. Unnecessarily playing out. Lo and behold we actually get hammering people have been predicting for weeks. Stupid, brain dead defending and mistakes, gifting them. It also came across as soft, not bothered, and not even doing the simple or basic requirements.
