Saints (H) Pre-match - The El Shatico
Les-TA-Jon replied to iancognito's topic in Leicester City Forum
Southampton are desperate for a point, to avoid sharing Derby's record. They know we can't score. I think they'll sit in, play for a point and hope to knick goals on the counter/set pieces. -
On what metric? 6.24 what?
-
Historically we’ve always been a yo-yo club We have the most relegations from the top flight, most promotions to the top flight and most 2nd division titles
-
TBH I won't begrudge him signing for a PL team and hopefully getting to 8 more goals to pip Owen...

Oh for sure. But last time we made an excellent appointment in Maresca, had a ton of deadwood leave on frees and got £90m+ from sales of Barnes, Maddison and Castagne. This time, the squad is quite a bit worse than the one that went down. Manager situation is either unknown or terrible. We have a ton of players hard to shift and only 1-2 sellable assets.

Southampton (with Rohl?), Ipswich both in better shape than us. Then there's whoever loses the playoffs. Plus the Wrexham wildcard. Autos will be very difficult I feel, since we either need to appoint a good manager, or we will (god forbid) still have RVN. Nevermind the total lack of CF at the club and the big overhaul required (which itself will be conducted by our woeful recruitment system...)

Do we seriously expect the club to have the ability to identify a decent player? Hardest and most expensive position to buy for, every club knows we have no strikers and we're tight AF with transfer fees...

Him still being in charge means: Club is undecided on next season Club is decided on him not being here next season but he may as well stick around to be the fall guy It's cheaper to sack him at a later date Point being, we don't know. Only outcome that actually matters, in terms of it being bad or not, is if he's part of the plan for next season - which would be a huge mistake. -
Don't know about favourite but I think last minute winner vs West Brom is arguably the most 'influential' goal in the club's history...
-
Would have been a travesty for the final 2 homes games to go by without proper recognition of him...
-
Next up: Leicester fan base holding every striker for the next 5-10 years to impossibly high standards...

If this is true - I've been saying the last few weeks that without official confirmation soon there's a risk he will play his last few home games without it being properly recognised by the club and without the match going fans getting the chance to show it either.

Last year still 'wasted' £7.5-£8.5m on Coady and £7.5m on Cannon...

By all accounts - we couldn't afford to sack Rodgers; couldn't afford release fee for any in-work manager (Corberan); couldn't afford to pay for anyone after Cooper was sacked; can't afford to sack RVN. Maybe the club should start planning for the entirely predictable expense of firing and hiring managers. -
Contract expires June 2027. Expected book value this summer of approx £6m. Who will pay that? I guess we could see him go if we're happy to make a small loss and make it up elsewhere on other transfers, but I'm not sure sure, given some of the offers we've supposedly turned down in the past for other players.

He's going to be here for a long while because of the fee we paid. We can't shift him unless we accept a big loss. Expected book values: Summer 2025 £16m Summer 2026 £12m Summer 2027 £8m Summer 2028 £4m

I had no idea Iheanacho was back in the Championship with Middlesbrough

That would have given RVN and the club about 1 hour to come to an agreement and then prepare a public statement... -

Multiple things can be true at once: Cooper was an 'OK' appointment given lack of funds, impending deduction, unattractive job to other potential candidates The recruitment (both with the club's and Cooper's influence) was awful - no other PL club would have made the signings we made and they did virtually nothing to address the weaknesses and imbalance of the squad Cooper was an ill fit for the Maresca influenced squad; Cooper did not help himself with dropping some of his best players (Fatawu, Ricardo) We were going down with Cooper, despite his pragmatism making us slightly solid; it was correct to sack him The following recruitment process began from a standing start (again!) and could only muster a very risky appointment in RVN RVN has of course turned out to be woefully underqualified -

Was it not kinda the opposite? The model of signing young and upcoming / unknown players and selling them for big profit 2-3 years later was somewhat dismantled under Rodgers. Under Rodgers we began prioritising 'PL experience' - see Perez, Bertrand, Vestergaard type signings - and got a really poor return on investment. Under Rodgers, much of our sports science, physio and analytics departments were gutted and realigned too.
