Instantly recognisable as The Guardian

Unfortunately so. RVN did the only obvious thing available to him in the circumstances - pick the guy with the number 1 shirt. I’d never criticise him for this - he hopefully sees what everyone else does now and that’s the last we see of DW.
-
Until recently I’d have instantly said Rudkin. Now I’m sad to say it’s Khun Top, we need a total reset.
-
I’m astonished…. As kids in training we had to do 10 press up (impressions) if we did it, a very effective way of remembering! Then in games we’d snigger as oppositions did it and we’d get a free kick. Maybe it was just a refereeing fad many many moons ago!
-
Surely that’s because nobody has made such a basic mistake that far up the pyramid??
-
Really??? That’s astonishing if he shouts “mine”… if the ref hears that it’s a free kick. “Mine” is a habit that’s coached out of 6 year old kids alongside picking the ball up when it comes to them. Seems like Danny didn’t listen to either instructions !
-
Personally I think that booing him (which is not something that I’ve ever done, and wasn’t at the game so didn’t this time… but I definitely would have) is aimed at expressing dissatisfaction publicly. The audience includes the decision makers that pick him to play and give him a contract extension - neither happen (in a functioning club) now. It’s also the only way to communicate with our man child owner. He will hate booing
-
Hallelujah …. A silver lining. Hopefully the start of much more
-
We’d have drawn. I understand team sports.
-
If he plays again then Ruud will lose a lot of the goodwill he has from the fans. If he can’t see that then I don’t see how he’s going to succeed in management. I dislike hyperbole, and I’ve sense checked myself here, and still believe it’s as cut and dried as that.
-
Why??? He should just say “yeah that wasn’t the best performance” and never play him again. Defending him lets the fans and the squad know that failure is acceptable
-
Hearing / seeing our new manager defend Ward is harder
-
I absolutely agree with you…. Usually this would be my point too. However with Ward it’s astonishing that he’s in the 1st team squad, let alone played… and that message has to be made to the people picking him. But, however much abuse / booing / displeasure Ward is getting, Rudkin (and now Top) should be getting more.
-
Any hint of “Board out” or “Rudkin out” chants??? I couldn’t hear anything on TV??
-
Never 100% at fault for a goal …. But you know an actual goalkeeper would have saved it
-
They weren’t worse, cost nothing not £12m, and the vitriol isn’t nice but no surprise given how utterly rubbish he is at a job he gets paid £6m / year to do
-
They’ll give fobtractbins to anyone these days!
-
Stating the obvious I know, but this is an absolutely huge game for both teams. Ward starts. We lose. A goalkeeper starts. Anything could happen!

Ruud van Nistelrooy - New Manager - Official

No. You naturally play differently trying to not expose your rubbish keeper. You also have no idea what he’s going to do so you try to compensate for him. It destroys the plan, it causes confusion, it causes individuals to make errors as they aren’t quite where they would be with a decent keeper. It’s a team game, with fine margins between finely tuned teams…. To have someone so shockingly bad in that machine effects every part of how it runs -
For picking Ward

And jump out of their way

I’m sure that’s exactly what he said about Savage!

Bergkamp? Possibly even RVN?
