Can't believe I've hit a point where I'm happy for Liverpool to stop Arsenal but here we are.

I did expect a Forest drop off but my god that's an absolutely stinking result before Europe has even gotten underway as well.

I don't hate it in the crap position we're in. Loan with option to buy is the right way to go for us - gets us potentially decent players without having to really spend and gives us the power to get them.

These are the marginal losses that are a constant under Rudkin. They add up over time and it's why we are now ultimately in the shit.

Ultimately he's come here, been part of a disgusting team, not the biggest offender but very much a part of it and then kicked off to get out of here. This is a proper red flag for me. I'm not knocking him necessarily as a player, he's clearly good at this level, but it's precisely the sort of deal, Winks like, his ceiling aged 30 is probably upper Championship - we should not be spending good money on that in this position, particularly on a position we're strong in already. We could maybe do with a winger on loan but it should be about 4th, 5th priority for us. Spending a big chunk of money on him would indicate nothing has been learned.

Monga being a freak of nature is going to see Page held to pretty unrealistic expectations. He should be involved but we shouldn't be needing to start him more than about 10 times this season.

How do they do it

Ipswich have made a right mess of it since they got promoted. Wasted loads of money and you look at their XI today - that is not a good side even at this level.

To me it just feels like a decent starting point. We are absolutely miles off the finished article and if business isn't done in the next few days then I think you can forget going up. But I like what he's trying to do - happy to alienate players who aren't committed. That was one of the strengths of Pearson and I can't really remember anybody since doing this - maybe Van Nistelrooy but too much damage was already done by the time of this. I thought we got lucky at Charlton but less so yesterday. Very efficient, but I was impressed how little we let them create. Stolarczyk only had to make one save. I was really disappointed in Birmingham. They were so bland. Hard to tell how much that was down to them and how much it was down to us. Charlton got far more joy than they did. Cifuentes is doing really well. He's being rewarded for the right type of principles. But it'll all be in vain if they don't back him this week because this side isn't good enough.

Doing a very good job in pathetic circumstances. Get him some signings for god sake.
