Pembrokeshire - Amazing coastline, great beaches, Coastal Path walks, sea trips to islands, great wildlife and lovely campsites... OR Anglesey, The Lleyn Peninsular (brilliant for camping/coastal walking) or anywhere along the N Wales coast (avoiding the obvious like Rhyl, Prestatyn etc) If you get anywhere near Cader Idris give me a shout

Just my two pence worth - I had a problem about 6 years ago, high enough readings to be told by my GP that I was at substansial risk so wanted me to try statins. I resisted and for two years tried to bring down my own levels using lifestyle change with some (albeit small) success. 4 years ago, my GP was still insistent that I needed Statins so I decided to have one last try at reducing them on my own and turned to a plant based diet - no dairy or fish or meat. Within 6 weeks I had lost a stone in weight, felt better in general and my levels started to come down. My levels are still above average but are now considered safe (but higher than normal). I maintained the weight loss without really trying and feel better now than 10 years ago and love my food. I was never really overweight in the frist place and hated vegetables, loved meat, cheese, eggs and particularly fish but can really say that I have grown into meat free and dairy free foods so much that I don't miss them at all. I realise that it seems a bit extreme but it has worked for me and I'm lucky that Vegan food is much more freely available than ever before (and my wife, a meat and dairy eater,is very accomodating and a brilliant cook!). I'm not anti Statins at all but I have other health conditions that require meds so for me it was a case of not wanting any more meds/side effects to deal with. Good luck.

Not a good idea to shoot wildlife in the breeding season (not sure if legal??). Anyway, wild birds are having a tough enough time existing without people shooting them, whether for fun, sport or to eat. If you want to eat meat, buy from a local butcher, If you want to be "moral" then stop eating meat. Their is no morality in killing without necessity.

My wife and I go to foreign Christmas markets every year and have done for the last 20 odd years. Cologne is one of the best in terms of the markets (I think there were 8 in total spread around the centre) and it's not a bad city for everything else. Transportation is easy and cheap to use, airport transfers are cheap and there's lots to choose from when eating out/drinking. The cathedral is very Gothic but beautiful, although we were lucky to have bright blue skies and snow on the ground... Very festive.

There’s some amazing roads and in late winter/early spring next to no traffic, especially weekdays. this is what the bike looks like currently.

Only just seen this thread... I bought this back in August. After riding sports bikes and crossers for years I had to have shoulder surgery. Couldn’t ride without pain so went for a more upright position and so far so good. This photo was the day of delivery, I’ve changed the looks somewhat now.

No. Some of our Robins migrate south in winter and at the same time our resident population is boosted by incoming Robins from the north, mostly Scandinavia.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

This ^... fully comp all the way. If your bike was worth a couple of thou or less, It would be a different matter... One of the best things about getting old (er) - My Blade insurance is about £100 fully comp... My R6 cost me a similar amount ('cos it's newer).. Selling an older Blade if anyone is interested - RRW, (last and best in my opinion, of the carburettor blades). It hasn't been run in 5 years, it was fully serviced then garaged - needs a new battery and a polish. Nice winter project for someone.

Find your nearest beekeeper and stock up with local honey - eat a little every day - It helps you with immunity (as in the vaccination/immunotherapy theory) as the honey contains pollen spores. When you eat the honey, it triggers an immune system response producing antibodies to fight the effects. When the body is actually exposed to the pollens etc. the antibodies recognise this and are ready for them. Obviously not scientifically proven, but a well regardexd theory. I've been keeping bees for a few years now and it works well for me (used to get Hayfever and Asthma really bad in the spring). Oh and use different anti histamines (loratadine, certirizine etc..) if one doesn't work another might. Roll on winter

Not surprising really, he's a proper photographer anyway and uses a Kiev 88 camera with medium-format film!!! Film photography is overlooked by modern togs who see digital as being better, which it isn't. They are good, although in a pre digital world, especially medium and large format, they are nothing out of the ordinary.

Nice one. How many stops is that filter Mikey? B+W make top filters - good choice there, just watch the colour cast/white balance. Get yorself a Big Stopper and see the fun you can have with it.... amazing with water and sky scenes.

The latest Panasonic Lumix is probably almost double your budget, the Leica three times... They are very good cameras though. You will receive better advice from the internet (camera or photography forums) than Jessops, Youngs or Jacobs anyway so no loss there. Step 1, you have a budget. Step two, find at least a couple of models to compare. Step three, find prices (don't forget imports from China, Japan, Korea etc but research the sellers feedback first first) Step four, BUY IT and enjoy. There are forums out there that deal with Compact/Bridge Cameras, go read them. Sorry I can't be more helpful but it's personal choice in the end.

Total beauty... I was lucky enough to find one of these last year: I Was watching over a breeding pair of Hen Harrier and kept seeing the Merlin fly over, so I tracked it to the nest site. (this isn't a photo of the actual site)

Regarding mosquitoes - Interesting read from nature.com There are 3,500 named species of mosquito, of which only a couple of hundred bite or bother humans. They live on almost every continent and habitat, and serve important functions in numerous ecosystems. "Mosquitoes have been on Earth for more than 100 million years," says Murphy, "and they have co-evolved with so many species along the way." Wiping out a species of mosquito could leave a predator without prey, or a plant without a pollinator. And exploring a world without mosquitoes is more than an exercise in imagination: intense efforts are under way to develop methods that might rid the world of the most pernicious, disease-carrying species (see 'War against the winged'). Yet in many cases, scientists acknowledge that the ecological scar left by a missing mosquito would heal quickly as the niche was filled by other organisms. Life would continue as before — or even better. When it comes to the major disease vectors, "it's difficult to see what the downside would be to removal, except for collateral damage", says insect ecologist Steven Juliano, of Illinois State University in Normal. A world without mosquitoes would be "more secure for us", says medical entomologist Carlos Brisola Marcondes from the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil. "The elimination of Anopheles would be very significant for mankind." http://www.nature.com/news/2010/100721/full/466432a.html

If your soil stack is internal, it should have an air admittance valve fitted to allow air into the waste system but not out (foul smells etc). If this is faulty it will lead to smells and possibly gurgling as air is expelled, also leading you to think it is the WC/Basin smelling. It will normally be found in a roofspace or boxed in above the WC somewhere. Cheap to replace if you can get to it. If this is not the cause, check for a faulty trap on a Basin or Shower.

Faulty air admittance valve?

Disgusting journalism - I live in the next town to Machynleth and have been involved in the searches for the last three days and the local people are truly devastated.... Kay Burley and the Sky news team know this and I think this was cheap and underhand.
