Agree, he (along with pretty much everyone) was anonymous at best last year. Time will tell if a new manager and environment can bring the best out of him. If I had to choose though between McAteer on the bench or £12m in the bank and Bobby on the bench it’s the latter all day.

Given how he spoke about him on the podcast it’s probably not a surprise. Let’s see how he does if he comes on.

All in think it’s sensible to not mix up the starting 11 too much and that is a very strong bench. Shame for a few of the youngsters but with the squad we have there’ll regularly be good players missing out. Let’s see how it plays out on the pitch!

Think the biggest challenge he’s going to have now is squad management and rotation. CB for example it’s any two from four who are all good enough and maybe one won’t even make the bench. It’s similar in midfield and even attack up to a point. Wingers we probably have a few stand outs. And this is all before we even factor in trying to give game time to youngsters. Competition for places is obviously good but takes good man management for those who miss out.
