Brilliant if correct but one aspect of the article concerns me. If asthma is triggered by a protein why is it that some people, especially children, have asthma but recover without specific treatment. They simply 'grow out' of it. My eldest had asthma and carried an inhaler for a number of years, but as he entered his teenage years the condition simply vanished. He is now in his thirties and has never suffered a recurrence of the condition.
Strokes Posted 23 April 2015 Posted 23 April 2015 I always thought asthma was an excuse for weedy kids to get out of PE, do adults suffer from it?
Nalis Posted 23 April 2015 Posted 23 April 2015 I always thought asthma was an excuse for weedy kids to get out of PE, do adults suffer from it? Yes, and then some as I am living proof!Mine is relatively mild but it has some major knock down effects, eg, if I forget to take inhalors I am more prone to dust allergy hits.

Did you use it as an excuse to get of PE though?
Nalis Posted 23 April 2015 Posted 23 April 2015 No worries mate! Yeah of course I did when it was circuits etc. Obviously always made a miraculous recovery for football!

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 23 April 2015 Posted 23 April 2015 I had it for many years as a kid, and it was no joke. Many dreadful sleepless nights, wheezing away.
Craig Posted 23 April 2015 Posted 23 April 2015 Amazing. This would be great. Had it as a kid, disappeared, and then come back about a year ago. Be lovely for it to go again.

I tend to find that every couple of years I get it quite bad where sometimes I will use a blue inhaler in a few weeks but at the minute I haven't used a full one in ages. Would be brilliant if they could cure it.

Not to try and tempt fate or anything like that but I as a baby was kept in hospital on and off for the first three years of my life, had a nebuliser at homes and was pumped full of more steroids than any baby should care for and then miraculously spent most of my life free of Asthma. Unfortunately I started to regain symptoms two years ago and have since gone from being prescribed salbutamol preventative inhalers to having to take three separate inhalers and a course of presidone every now and then. Asthma is truly awful and this news is extremely welcome. For anyone unsure what asthma is like, when I trained first aid courses I use to get candidates to simulate the feeling by having a short run with a straw in your mouth to breathe through.
davieG Posted 24 April 2015 Posted 24 April 2015 I never had it until I was in my late 30s it seemed to be triggered after I spent a couple of hours moving bales of straw around in an enclosed barn. Like others have said I can go months without any symptoms then it'll come back with a bang.
