fuchsntf Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 Imagine if a French team was allowed to play in the PL every season, and more often that not they won it- plenty of English fans would get very upset. We humans are all as bad as each other. Sent from my BNTV600 using Tapatalk Does it happen at the Swiss, Italian, Spanish, and South American tours and events.. Dont compare football, all club fans hate each other, just for the sake of it, no matter where the players come from.
enmac Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 Don't know. I was trying to make the point that the French probably have more "passion" for cycling than the majority of people in this country. I'm only guessing, but I thought it was part of their culture. More like football here. Anyway, 12 M spectators and one clown does this. Most of the spectators I see seem to be respectful to all the riders. Sent from my BNTV600 using Tapatalk
fuchsntf Posted 21 July 2015 Posted 21 July 2015 Regions of France are really passionate for cycling especially for their 'tour' But believe me, there are brits, dutch, belgians, dutch, just as fanatical. Un beknown to the modern day media, the following has always been in the 10s of thousands, but Cyclist with club affiliations, or many with no affiliations small groups that just love the sport. Many nonames over the years became water carriers, and cycled on the rand of the tour for years. Some famous ones came up through those ranks, wanting to realise their dreams. Some just of them happy to of been a part of it. Some want to head the Pelaton, just once, others to head it just once each year, for 1/2 a day.No yellow jersey in their own thoughts. Many have reached their dream as amateures just to ride and take part. Support for the sprinters, short stint pacemakers, for both Sprints men and or mountain men. The history of this race has many facits ,antecdotes, and great stories, that just have no place for the media, modern or past. I am or better said was a World traveller, in both work and adventure,..... 4 topics break the ice in many a local/indigenous/foreign evening pastime conversations, either around the local tree, on the train, on the boat, in the cantina, in hotel bars, in adventure camps:- Music, Football, tomorrows plans, and cycling. Not politics, not sex or world order. Of all themes across nations including African, Persian, Russian...the respect and time goes in and on discussions on cycling, especially the 'Tour' with the old, the aged, the ancient, and the young, all wanting to add their own anecdotes, ...seen on tv,heard in stories over generations pastdown, privileged to see/experienced, or questioned again. Why..??? IMO the mano a mano mentality, the mental stress of going over, or hitting ones extremes 3-6 times in a any one day, then repeating it for ca 15 days. Then the sheer bloody mindness, and true hardness that it requires. In some aspects reflexs the lives of people in hard routine lives, and societies. Oh just to say..., the triathalon or single extreme sports still dont or cant touch its hights of daily, weekly lengthy perseverance

Ie: The water carriers need spurts on the flats and in the mountains, just as much.In the the whole history there as been many WC riders who have had skills in all qualifications during the tour. Obviously your right about it being a 3 week event with rest periods.I was being conservative about 15 days because once in the top elite or say top 15ca. Their support riders do take and balance out those explosive excersions needed, maybe cutting out the need of bursting their guts down to 3 instead of six attacks...tactics and all that.. Sometimes top rider names are put forward, who stay around the top 5-12, but one knows and they know the wont win, that particular year.

The tour is won on the TT's and the mountains, A top contender just sits in the bunch on a flat day and lets the sprinting teams set the pace, it a easy stroll for him. Explosive excursions in the mountains are stupid unless you are going with 5km to try to win the stage, they are a complete waste of time and energy, its just showboating, a steady pace beats fast slow, fast slow on a climb any day of the week
Freesolo Posted 24 July 2015 Posted 24 July 2015 I am just watching this Documentary on Marco Pantani, It's really interesting and quite emotional too. When you turn pro you are forced into doping basically. What choice do you have quit and get a job or follow your passion I think It would take a extremely strong person with high morals to give up the thing that you love and have been doing since a child, the one thing that your are better than everyone at. Drugs or no drugs there is no doubt that Pantani is the greatest climber ever, he was perfect for climbing small, light, super competitive and unfortunately he would do anything to win https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pL0g4OcB6tM
IOWFOX Posted 24 July 2015 Posted 24 July 2015 Shit's about to go down! Froome could be in big trouble here.
Freesolo Posted 24 July 2015 Posted 24 July 2015 Shit's about to go down! Froome could be in big trouble here. He is known for being strong in the firstt week and tiring in the 3rd week but i cant see anyone pulling back enough time on him he might lose a minute over today and tomorrow but that's it.

Was looking massively outnumbered for awhile but fair play to poels who managed to get back on. Not sure what happened to froome then but he recovered and should be ok now, was a little worrying.
Super_horns Posted 24 July 2015 Posted 24 July 2015 Nibali certainly going to be moving up.. Very strong performance. Must be doping..
BoyJones Posted 24 July 2015 Posted 24 July 2015 Where did that performance come from. Nibali has been well off the pace most of the tour!!
Freesolo Posted 25 July 2015 Posted 25 July 2015 Where did that performance come from. Nibali has been well off the pace most of the tour!! Look at the performance is wasn't even that good, Nibali knows that he is so far behind that the leaders will let him go and they did, the leaders could have gone with him with ease. He just wanted the stage win. by the time time the leaders started to attack they took over a minute out of his original lead. His TDF is over he knows it, they might let him do it again today because he is zero threat

Wouldn't fancy being a team Sky rider today having to ride through the crowds up the d'huez.
Super_horns Posted 25 July 2015 Posted 25 July 2015 They got loads of stick but Froome had the last laugh.
RUDZY Posted 25 July 2015 Posted 25 July 2015 Well Done Chris Froome and the SKY team.Brilliant watch and a well deserved win.
Freesolo Posted 25 July 2015 Posted 25 July 2015 Its a joke how they are saying Froome is dirty and doping because he is strong in he first week, yet look how Quintana zips up the Alpe d'huez and takes a big chunk of froome on the 3rd week and the final stage when everyone is burnt out, Yet there is no mention of him doping?
Amin Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 My two favourite current GC riders finish 1-2 again, nice. I hope Quintana wins next year.

I hope he doesn't, he wont if he he defends his Giro title that's for certain. plus Quintana had Valverde, Froome had G Thomas as his next best rider Richie Porte was very poor this year.
Raj Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 Has a yellow Jersey wearer ever had an accident on the last day? Hope it don't happen as Froome has oozed class throughout.Like freeslo said is anyone chucking piss at quintano for his epic last week? Bloody French!

If froome crashed on the cobbles I cannot see anyone attacking him, the last stage is supposed to be a victory parade then a day for the sprinters. I think all the main contenders would wait for froome to catch up
Raj Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 Yeah I'm sure the last day is like that, but the way nibali went a couple of days ago when froomy had a bike issue it'd be interesting!!
RUDZY Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 There's quite a bit of rain in Paris today - a few crashes for the girls early on.
Freesolo Posted 26 July 2015 Posted 26 July 2015 The whole Froome being attacked by the the French media is just bitterness that a British rider keeps winning the Tour and a French one can't, Its like England vs Scotland in football
