The Doctor Posted 9 July 2015 Posted 9 July 2015 Serious misgivings over the cuts to housing benefit for 18-21 year olds, seems to be expecting that they'll all have stable homes and living parents to go to, which a wee bit naive. If I was being picky, the new living wage still isn't a living wage (in London at least) and the implementation at 25 seems arbitrary at best, but other than that it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
MiniFox Posted 9 July 2015 Posted 9 July 2015 Perhaps this what charities are for, exceptions. True, but under some circumstances and a bit of bad luck then they will be without the help of charities. Some people should be forced to get the "Snip" seriously you see mums walking around with 5 kid's all total mutants, you know the kids barely have a chance to better themselves because the parents don't give a shit the mum just keeps shitting kids out because sh doesn't want to work. It's a vicious cycle and they spread like bacteria I can't even really argue with that, maybe harsh to call them mutants but those types of mums aren't exactly helping are they, some kids manage to better themselves, but it's much harder for them when the most important person in their life growing up is a bad role model.

I forget what the figure is but there is a high percentage of under 25's made homeless because of family breakdowns. Plus the wages for under 21's is a lot less. Without the extra help they will not afford the rents. How many teenage mum to bes are thrown out of their parents home, run away from abusive parents. Charities can only do so much which is mostly give support and advice. They do not have a bottomless pit of money to hand out and they rely on donations and government funding of which a lot is and will be cut. Refuges hostels etc. Take a look at the link in my sig for the latest stories regarding this. I have not seen anyone start a thread about it yet.

Freesolo Posted 9 July 2015 Posted 9 July 2015 You horrible fascist. Thing is I'm really left, i just hate seeing kids being mistreated and abused
DennisNedry Posted 9 July 2015 Author Posted 9 July 2015 Wgat about the familrs that have had three had good well paid jobs then one comes down with MS or caner. Should they be punished for being ill and nothaving a crystal ball? It doesn't apply to families who already have kids, only people who have a third after the policy is in place. And a sick child will still get NHS treatment and sickness benefits etc.

Guest MattP Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Higher minimum wage Slower pace of Austerity Tax on bank profits 7% Abolish non dom Apprentice perks No tax free hedge funds After a bit more of an in depth look he's stolen more from the Labour manifesto for this budget than his own aside from welfare reform and the continued shrinking of the public sector. Could be genius really as he's stolen a load more from the middle ground that Labour can't get back now. Think it's becoming clear he's got one eye on the leadership as well.
DennisNedry Posted 10 July 2015 Author Posted 10 July 2015 Why has Osborne excluded under 25s from the new living wage policy? Young people such as myself are the most likely to be on low wages. And young people tend to be more left wing, so policies like this are only going to erode further the future support for the Conservative Party.
Ollie93 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Can someone briefly explain what Tax Credits are? thanks

Businesses will probably opt to hire under 25s, may not be enough to live on, but youth unemployment will probably go down as a result. Not sure on the reasoning otherwise though.
Rincewind Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Can someone briefly explain what Tax Credits are? thanks It tops up your wages if you are on shit money. Although if you are under 25 or on any benefit this is offset by a reduction in that.

Most minimum wage jobs are low skilled, and the staff easily replaceable. Given the choice between employing a 22-year-old on £7 per hour or someone older than 25 on £9 per hour the younger worker will get the job every time. This will leave scores of over 25s unemployable and in big trouble due to benefit cuts, which will leave many children in poverty. A very ill thought out idea.

If it makes the figures look better a lot of people will vote for them next election. Also moving around the way they collate the figures helps.
Strokes Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 It's to encourage people to work and support themselves. Ken you've been calling for a living wage for months, or longer. Surely you still can't be moaning?
SMX11 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Living wage is a bad idea, like all forms of wage control it will harm those at the bottom most even though it is perceived to do the opposite. The only good part of the policy that it doesn't include for young persons because that would pretty much condemn the majority of the low skilled/semi skilled youth to a lifetime of benefits.
Buce Posted 11 July 2015 Posted 11 July 2015 Alf has gone over to the dark side. Oh and compassionate conservative, that phrase always makes me chuckle.. Quite the oxymoron, isn't it..

Alf Bentley Posted 12 July 2015 Posted 12 July 2015 Quite the oxymoron, isn't it.. Did you hear about the fanatical "No" voter in the Greek referendum? He walked straight into the polling station and put his cross next to the "Yes" option. What an Oxi moron!

Rincewind Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 This may interest anyone living in a flat in London. It is in regard to the new rule will have to pay the market value in rent. Even with the promise to exempt vulnerable groups from cuts to young people’s housing benefit, the government’s plans still run a huge risk of increasing homelessness among 18- to 21-year-olds. MiniFox Posted 14 July 2015 Posted 14 July 2015 What does this have to do with the budget? Probably need a general politics thread, plenty of people post about politics regularly, not sure where else an article like this could go at the minute. Maybe there is one I've missed/forgotten about.
