ballso Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 I'm off to Melbourne at the end of this month. I'll be looking to work eventually, but will be playing tourist for the first week or so. Only been there once, that was last year and only for a weekend. Anybody live in or around Melbourne and fancy meeting for beers in the city? Or just feel free to recommend some must do's / see's. Cheers! Lee
Guest Mee-9 Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 I think MelbourneFox lives there. He's a fraud, he really lives just off Anstey Lane.

bmt Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 I lived there for a year and have Leicester supporting family in Geelong, an hour down the road. I'd recommend you to go to a Melbourne Victory game and stand on the North Terrace (their supporters group) https://www.facebook.com/pages/North-Terrace-Melbourne/356644847782442. The football is relatively shit but the atmosphere is cracking. AFL is worth going to a game just to see how ridiculous it is. Other things worth doing: Victoria Market especially when the night market is in town round xmas, Eureka Skydeck for a good view of the city (avoid the eye it's in a terrible part of the city), The Grampians are a good weekend break, There's a cool rooftop bar called naked for Satan with really cheap tapas, The free tram round the city shows most of the good sights and stuff to do in the city centre. My memory is truly woeful I'll add some more when I get a chance to think.
DB11 Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 You travelled all the way across the world for a weekend?! That's mad
separator Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 St Kilda was quite nice as I remember, was 15 years ago since I was in Melbourne though.
Rob1742 Posted 3 September 2015 Posted 3 September 2015 I know someone who lives in Medbourne if that helps?
ballso Posted 4 September 2015 Author Posted 4 September 2015 You travelled all the way across the world for a weekend?! That's mad Not sure if serious? I've been living in New Zealand for the past couple of years (Melbourne's only a three hour flight from Wellington, where I live). Surprised there aren't more City fans living there - wherreeee are ya? Let's be having you!
aussie-fox Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 Geelong has a massive Leicester city following.

ballso Posted 4 September 2015 Author Posted 4 September 2015 Oh right I assumed you were from Leicester. Surely you must know loads of people that are Australian then I know quite a few, but they're either elsewhere in Australia or living overseas somewhere! Just thought I'd put the feelers out on here, always a pleasure meeting other CIty fans!
Staffs Fox Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 I lived in Melbourne for 3 years from 2008-11, phenomenal city. What would you like to know? If it's drinking you're after I'd start on Chapel Street in Prahran, it's an awesome mile or so road which is just jammed full of bars, vintage stores and restaurants. I always used to start there rather than the CBD because you get better drink offers and with Oz being so fecking expensive every little helps. If you work your way up from Jam Factory (I'd stop at the Lucky Coq, Revolver and The Temperance in particular) towards St Kilda you can then go to Carlisle Street which crosses Chapel Street and on there you have the Local Taphouse which was my favourite pub in the whole of Melbourne. It can get pricey but they'll have about 12 'craft' beers on tap all of the strong variety and each one is usually a belter. Carry on down Carlisle and you'll get to the heart of St Kilda. Ackland Street, The Espy and Fitzroy Street are also full of drinking places including a few clubs. If you want to watch the football the Elephant and Wheelbarrow always have the Premier League on, If you need to know anything else just let me know
bmt Posted 4 September 2015 Posted 4 September 2015 Geelong has a massive Leicester city following. Had to check your profile to make sure you aren't my cousin. I presume you are joking, but I was driving in Geelong like a year and a half ago and I went past someone at a junction wearing a city shirt. I beeped but they didn't notice. We are massive.
