Why top 4 will be a tough slog

Over the last 10 premier league seasons, the average number of points needed to finish in 4th place is 67.

32 more points needed for average number.

Now this might sound okay as we have just achieved 35 points in 16 games - but due to the way we play and playing the same group of players week in week out, tiredness will definitely kick in.

I noticed against Chelsea - the last 15 mins the players looked absolutely shattered. That is a worry for me.

This is the reason top teams usually always come out in top, as they have massive squads.

Can we achieve 32 more points?

As an aside - for all those who believe we can win the title. The average number of points needed over the last 10 seasons has been 84.

(these numbers are to have 1 more point than 2nd place or 1 more point than 5th place for the top 4 averages)

Even if we Double the number of points we have currently we wouldn't win the league. It's bonkers to even think we will win the league unfortunately. But as claudio says we can dream.

Reading your posts, I bet your a right bundle of joy to go out with.

Of course the top 4 is going to be a hard slog, it is for teams with huge resources such as Spurs and Liverpool. It's not easy, we're not expecting it, but we are just going to enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Can we achieve another 32 points?

Wins against

Norwich (h)

Bournemouth (h)

West Brom (h)

Sunderland (a)

Villa(a)

Newcastle (h)

Swansea (h)

Everton (h)

West ham (h)

Draws

Stoke (h)

Southampton (h)

Crystal palace (a)

Watford (a)

Everton (a)

This gives us the 32 points with 8 games to spare.

Will it be easy no of course not, and the wheels could fall off at any moment. But those results are far from unrealistic and would see us hit 67 points.

I'm just happy watching this team play. They are fantastic. Don't listen to the pundits that have maybe watched us play a maximum of 3 times over the past 5 years. We are the experts when it comes to Leicester City. Some of the pundits are smug with themselves because they have finally heard of Kante. Most of them think we have only just signed Mahrez and Vardy at the start of this season or at best the start of last. We've seen them play a hundred times more than anyone on TV, but of course we aren't objective. Some on here are just as guilty as the pundits thinking we can't possibly win the league because we are Leicester. I'm already looking at this season as a highlight reel of the best football this team has ever played. Just imagine if you were an Everton fan, knowing you had to play Leicester this weekend, would you honestly expect to come away with anything from the game? I'm certain we will finish in the top four. We have a very good chance of winning the league too. We have done a better job than any other team up to this point and there is no reason at all to think we can't keep playing like this.

****ing hope not. lol

CR is tweaking the team, getting his message across and we are conceding fewer goals. I will not be disappointed if we miss the top 4 as mid table would easily exceed expectations. Once we pass 40 we can adjust the target accordingly and if we get top 6 it would still be one of the greatest seasons in our history. Top 4 is currently in reach and if we get there it would be an historic achievement that would be talked about forever. I am seriously loving it!

This is a terribly negative view that doesn't address the reality of the accomplishments of our squad or the well-earned position we are in. From where we are now we should be devastated if we slip below top 4.

And if we achieve Champions league then we shouldn't dwell on that as a "historic achievement" but should buy into our owner's ambition and see it as a springboard from which to kick on and become a regular world class club.

If we want to stay top 4 we'll need some more depth in January otherwise with the Cup and injuries I doubt we'll see it through.

Having said that, every week we all think this will be the week we'll lose - and we don't.

I say roll the dice and spend a bit in January, give it a go, it's likely we'll never have a better chance for many years.

Think Wenger said somewhere this week this year will be around 80 points to take the title. On that basis top 4 has got to be possible. Next 3 games are really important after those I think we have played everyone so psychologically if we are top having played everyone it shows we can do it.

Not so worried about running out of steam. As we don't have European games which was a big factor for Liverpool when they nearly won the league.
