Izzy Posted 19 December 2015 Posted 19 December 2015 Sad to hear about the passing away of Jimmy Hill today. He'll always be the face of MOTD for me as a kid. He had a good innings and did a lot for the game. Good old 'chinny hill' RIP
Kitchandro Posted 19 December 2015 Posted 19 December 2015 So he's the reason footballers got rich and we have all-seater stadiums, basically. Not really sure that's a great legacy.
Wymsey Posted 19 December 2015 Posted 19 December 2015 So he's the reason footballers got rich and we have all-seater stadiums, basically. Not really sure that's a great legacy. Show some respect for once will you.
Izzy Posted 19 December 2015 Author Posted 19 December 2015 So he's the reason footballers got rich and we have all-seater stadiums, basically. Not really sure that's a great legacy. I'd suggest the Hillsborogh disaster was the reason we've got all seater stadiums, rather than Jimmy Hill. Basically For me, his legacy will be his TV work and how he pioneered the 'pundit panel' we see today
Jimothy Posted 19 December 2015 Posted 19 December 2015 Brought in three points for a win too. Basically made it more attractive for teams to go for a win than try and draw the game, making it more attacking and better to watch.
fuchsntf Posted 19 December 2015 Posted 19 December 2015 Jimmy Hill, put the players in the forefront of financial negotiations, and paychecks. Not the functionaires. All seater stadiums he worked hardiously for safer, cleaner comortable grounds, many years before Hillsborough. After Hillsborough they understood. He wanted the fans brought closer to the game, he saw TV as the right medium, also with Coleman he wanted more sports, on all days to be projected on TV.Medical staff, players union, and Respect to all through the whole of a club. Great player, who wanted to spread the word. Analyse of players and skills, even having an English football college/academy. Tried to enhance the various youth schemes in profi clubs. Then there was Match of the day, to bring it to all in the home. From there, trying to encourage the idea Of a a platform for retired players.Helping to create the pundit panels, from ex-players, and managers. Using Radio and TV. His 1st Sunday supplements, had fans talking, but the mundane drone of bias reporters, made it one track, but by then he didnt hold the strings. Championed many things behind the scenes.
Steven Posted 20 December 2015 Posted 20 December 2015 "Jim, Jim, scratch your chin", what we used to say as kids when we thought someone was lying. .
Fox92 Posted 20 December 2015 Posted 20 December 2015 Heard the news while I was in the ground yesterday. Did a lot for football. RIP Jimmy.
Jordan Posted 25 December 2015 Posted 25 December 2015 So he's the reason footballers got rich and we have all-seater stadiums, basically. Not really sure that's a great legacy. What problem do you have with footballers being rich?
