Captain... Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Our biggest asset is team spirit and attitude, any deviation from that in pursuit of CL success could be a disaster. We need to sign players that improve the squad and will give their all whether this time next year we are awaiting our knock out tie in the CL last 16 or are fighting relegation having been knocked out of all cup competitions. If that player costs 3,13 or 30 million is irrelevant we need players who will fight for the cause no matter what the cause is.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 I think it'd be important for the core group of the team to play, as they have done superbly well to get us there. But, if we do make it to the Champions League, a few quality additions would be beneficial, or bringing players in who have played in the competition before would be good for the team.
Loggy88 Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 I wouldn't change loads, I would bring in 3 players to add to what we have already, another striker (unless we get one this month) a really good centre back and a right back.
IsItMuzzy Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 I agree, can't think of one player who played in that promotion team who is any good now.Nugents doing pretty decent for Boro I hear. Apart from that they've all faded into obscurity.
Fox seen in Norwich Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 Nugents doing pretty decent for Boro I hear. Apart from that they've all faded into obscurity.Eh? Schmeical, james, drinks, King, Morgan, was, Vardy, Schlupp, de laet and Ulloa are all still here"Edit: oh and Mahrez
FireFox Posted 10 January 2016 Posted 10 January 2016 The squad is fine. Could do with a few improvements, as always, but nothing crazy. And we have to hold onto King and Schlupp anyway, so nobody suggest we need to improve on them. (And Moore too probably, unless we have 2 academy players who won't be U21 next season who are better - Lawrence won't count, neither will Gray in a few years time.)

You are suggesting that on the remote possibility that we stay in the top 4 without further reinforcements, that Schlupp and King are 'must keeps' because they are of a suitable calibure of player for next season's Champions League?
General Smuts Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 We'll need 2 players in each position and upgrades sprinkled throughout the squad. Realistically Mark Schwarzer is no longer a realistic second choice keeper, and Hamer certainly isn't going to cut it in the Champs League if Kasper is out. So an upgrade is needed in goal. Neither De Laet or Simpson should be anywhere near a Champs League team but 1 could be slotted in as a rotation option. Was and Benny are already rotation options at best and I can't see Morgan taking another step up so CB needs looking at. With Fuchs CL experience and Chilwell and Schlupp capable options I'd suggest LB is fine. If we keep Inler I can't see CM being a problem. Kante and Drinkwater can both step up and have shown as much this season. King and James as rotation is fine too. On both wings we might be light once Dyer goes back even if you use Schlupp as an option. Striker needs looking at as Ulloa is not a Champs League striker and Kramaric won't be here long.

You need 8 home grown players in total, 4 of which need to have trained at the club for 3 years before the age of 21. So King, Schlupp, Chilwell and Dodoo.

I agree with this. 5 top quality signings should do it.

Could one of our u21 keepers count as a homegrown?

Chilwell and Dodoo Will be good to keep onto for a couple years time when they aren't U21 if we are still competing in Europe.

Can we count an u21 like Dodoo as part of our 8 home grown players, even if they aren't in the main 25 squad? Because if we need 4, we only really have King, Schlupp & Moore. Apologies if I'm missing something!! its confusing!
fuchsntf Posted 12 January 2016 Posted 12 January 2016 I couldnt walk before I could run, couldnt spread rumours before I could talk. Lets see how far this team takes us, why bother planning , before the blueprint is dry and confirmed. The dream, and the reality has been so good, so far , like a good meal, I want to taste and enjoy every bite before paying getting the bill.

Yes they will count towards our 8 home grown players as long as we register them in our European squad but we don't actually have to if they are 20 or younger. We could still use them unregistered but in our case they would need to be registered as we don't have enough home grown at club players. I'm guessing we would have King, Schlupp, Chilwell and Dodoo registered as our home grown at club players and we aren't exactly struggling to fill the other four spots. We have Schmeichel, Simpson, De Laet, Huth, Morgan, Gray, Albrighton, Drinkwater, James and Vardy.

We would just then only be allowed a 21 man squad.
