Take care @urban.spaceman. You're doing better than you realise.

Similarly. I can't imagine how hard it must be to achieve success in your field @urban.spaceman but you clearly have something to have got this far.

Don't give up. Setbacks can be overturned and become positives with your "never give up" attitude.

And then my Masters results arrived this morning. Still not opened it. Genuinely not in the mood for either a good or bad result. Just gonna leave it for a few days.

You'll know when you're ready.

If you feel able, share it with us. Either way, we will support and congratulate you. :schmike:

Feel myself sliding for the first time in about 18 months.

Been at my workplace for 16 years but moved into a new role fairly recently and feel a mixture of completely out of my depth/in a rut - making it hard to even contemplate trying to understand.

Desperate to leave but have no idea what I'd want to do. Lots of bills to pay etc.

Feel completely trapped.

Have you told your employer you might need help/support in your new role? You've been there 16 years, they obviously like you. Sometimes we do such a good job covering the cracks, we don't seem in need of help.

It's the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Realising your limits is a strength, not a weakness.

I think it's more just being part of the furniture rather than being particularly well thought of. I asked for redundancy when my role changed but was refused as there was this new role.

The people who did think well of me and I worked with for many years have all moved on and the people there now I barely know aside from one or two, management included.

I'm desperate to get out of the office environment. In my head I'd love a solitary job, driving around.

Well in further to what I posted last week. Arranged to meet my cousin and potential new boss next week for a drink to try and confirm the job. I’m still proper nervous about it all but the pros out way the cons. Just have to see how it works out with the ankles but got to give it a go. Never know it could be the making of me.

well meeting isn't going to happen this week no more. It’s still going to happen at some stage but the boss is on holiday for a week. Bit frustrating as I’d set my mind on it being tonight. Got me feeling a bit down now tbh

It's not easy to 'snap out of', is it..

Hope things improve soon.

You are amongst esteemed company here Chris. Don't think it's only you, it really isn't.

Yeah, set your mind a task, even if it's doing some puzzles or playing a game that involves planning or strategy. If your mind is busy, it can't over think.

Or just go outside and let the awesome majesty of nature soak into you (a little more difficult in the months ahead, given). I mean, really soak it up. Take a close look at a tree or a fungi (lots around this time of year!) and examine the complexity of it and how it just all works brilliantly.

It's just a case of giving the brain something to do that's either fun or relaxing. Good news; the two things are not mutually exclusive.

It works for me.

This is why I took up board gaming as a hobby. As well as a great way to make friends as an adult (a horrendously hard thing to do in general), playing board games is one of the few times when I just feel totally content with life , not interacting with technology or the modern world and not thinking about anything other than enjoying myself and enjoying spending time with other people

I think co-operative games too, that gives you communication and working towards a common goal, are great for this.

On this theme, jigsaws. Good solo or with a few people. Easy to dip in and out of.

To lighten the mood slightly (and I hope nobody finds this to be inappropriate), the deadpan comedian Steve Wright has a great line on this subject.

"Depression is merely anger without the enthusiasm'.

It's not "great" though. That's too glib and simplistic. It might be mildly funny but it's a world away from true depression.

It's a joke, fella. It's not intended to belittle or be exhaustively explanatory.

I know...

And your response explains exactly what sufferers of full depression will feel in an emotional response to his "joke".

I'm not having a go at you.

I am not sure any of us in a position to explain what others might think - and I think one must take care not to take offence on that basis either.

Humour is subjective. There are comedians, professional comedians, paid to make people laugh, who actually depress me every time I hear or see them.

I'm looking at you Brendan O'Carroll.

Five series of Mrs Brown's Boys... FIVE!

....I envy people that can reduce their worlds to just themselves, those around them and the things they directly control. It seems a happier existence.

I don't know how to do that, or even that I should even if I could.

Exactly the same.
