AKCJ Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 I love these two as much as I loved the likes of Taggart, Elliot and Walsh. Proper defenders. None of this ooh look at me I can pass it ten yards shit. Tackle, elbow, clear. In any order.
Itsthejoeker Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Wes is in new contract talks according to ESPN
Oxfordfox83 Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 The Bouncers. I like that. I love them both especially Morgan who have improved and adapted to the Premier League. Huth at least played in this league most of his career so he knows his way around. Also have you noticed Morgan never gets injured? He's played every minute of this season and played 37 games last season. His fitness is outstanding. That said, and I don't wanna put a damper on the mood here, but we can't go into the Champions League with these 2 as first choice CBs. We need at least one CB who's comfortable on the ball and can pass it (and can defend). Yikes. Has this season taught us nothing? Age aside, why can't they do next season what they've done this? Which is defend consistently and brilliantly? If we can get someone aged 24 who can defend like Wes and pass like Esteban then by all means get them in, but if it's a choice give me a defender every time. I'd rather they blocked Suarez/Messi every time than passed round them but missed a tackle.

When Atletico Madrid won their league few years back they were 10th in the league in terms of possession. They averaged around 48% possession. Very low for a title winning side. But when we play away in Europe we do need to keep possession a lot more than we do now, and neither Huth nor Morgan are ball playing centre backs. Or maybe buy another striker / no.10 type who will do the Okazaki role but can also pass the ball and keep possession much better than Okazaki. Ranieri is a smart man who's been around Europe, so I look forward to seeing what he has in mind.
Clever Fox Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 They have been immense both of them this season. Sadly though I think Huths lack of pace will be exposed in Europe by Teams who are good in possession. for that reason I think we need a younger more mobile CB to partner Morgan. Big Was I'm sure will be released for much the same reason. We cant afford sentiment as Football can be a cruel business.
fuchsntf Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Forget past players, its the now, these 2 have been more important to out title challenge, than any other CB in our history, because its simply is the fact of the time in history. The back four, Claudio has bought to them the power of consistent focus and discipline. The whole back 4 have been immense, if there has been slip ups by one, there has been another covering, even from midfield.
Gerard Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 defenders who defend. ive been in the pub all night saying either is better than john stones. got laughed at of course but i know who id rather have 10000% Morgan & Huth may be better at pure defending but what about all those goals and assists Stones makes? http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix#premier_league/2015/2016/john_stones/165/165/4207/0/p|premier_league/2014/2015/john_stones/165/126/4207/0/p|premier_league/2013/2014/john_stones/165/64/4207/0/p|europa_league/2014/2015/john_stones/143/143/4207/0/p#goals_scored/assists#total
