Ranieri vs Pochettino: A different approach!

This is not a criticism of either, just an observation of approaching the title race.

Pochettino: We're still in this race, acknowledging there is a title to win. Players all on board with the chase.

Now obviously we don't know what Ranieri says behind closed doors but which approach do you think is the best/correct/effective?

Does it depend on position. I guess we won't know until the game is over?

Can't read anything in to it as you don't know what they would be saying if positions were in reverse. Pressure is all on us and Ranieri is trying to take it off us, they are trying to chase us down and don't have the pressure we do.

Renieri rightly trying to take the pressure off in the press. Last thing he needs to say is "we're going to win this" or whatever because the press will have a field day, especially if we end up not winning it.

He's  been playing it down all season and should continue to do so, we focus on the next game and the next game only we need to be at our best to beat Swansea without Vardy, we win that then we look at United, no further. It is about us and nobody else and we look at what we have achieved and not at what we could.

I think his approach has worked so far (obviously, we are top) but I think now, I'd like him to switch it up a bit. Say yes, it is within sight, but we need to fight, we will go out and give our all.

Rather than, meh, we've done alright.

Ranieri is managing expectations, goals change across the season but he fulfilled his by Christmas.  The players have shown him that they are made of tougher stuff so they add new small achievable goals, that way you're not setting yourself up for failure but ticking off easy wins like survival, top 8, Europa, CL.  League title? no we just think about the next game and fight.

 

Poch seems to be a very good manager and motivates his team in a way that suits them.  They have'bigger stars' and have spent, and wasted,  a lot of money so Spurs owners expect them to compete as they have more to lose.  The past few seasons they have always been the bridesmaids but this season they have taken advantage of Chelsea/Arsenal/City slipping up.

I noticed a few weeks ago, wes morgan and a few others actually coming out and saying words which indicated they were up for the title challenge and they knew what was at stake.

 

Overall, I think Ranieri has done a good PR job with the media, making everything quite jovial. But it's obvious how he celebrates goals and how together all our squad is.... this means everything to everybody at the club. We just aren't shouting about it to the media - which is a good thing.

 

Pochettino as the chasing manager has to say the stuff he says, and to be fair spurs performances on and off the pitch via interviews do seem to have some psycological effect on some of the fans at least.

 

Wes morgan mentioned a few games ago, how he watched the spurs game and wanted to put pressure on, personally i think it's better if we just stick to - "it's in our hands, and we are only concerned about one game at a time - our next game - that's it" - no mention of pressure, no mention of goal contest between vardy/kane, no mention of watching their games. All we do is pay our own games and win.

 

Just boss it like Kante bosses midfield with his play - he don't give a sh*t - he never answers back, gives useless interviews, celebrate like the premature little c*nt dele alli - just plays the game, runs, tackles, sets up attacks. Job done. No psycological warfare, no mind games. That would put the shitters up pochettino and his boys just hearing that, and seeing us win 1-0 where the opposition hardly makes scheimchel make a save - that's the biggest statement.

 

That sends a message to everyone including sky, spurs and everyone else  "we don't give a fu&k, you can show spurs winning games 10-0, as long as we win 3 games 1-0 (with 10% posession and a penalty), or draw 2 games and win 2 games 1-0 - we win it - fuc% all anyone can do about it" - we are not watching who's behind us, we're top we look only to ourselves.

Lets be honest, the players aren't stupid. They all know that the title is our to lose at this moment, what Ranieri says to the press matters not.

It's easier for us to chase I think and easier for Poch too. It may actually be helping us in another way...by focussing on Leicester, it's helping keep Arsenal and Manchester at bay, because we're only looking up. At the top you can only fear what's behind you....in regard to Ranieri, he's a class act and has handles the whole season brilliantly....especially after being appointed with some surprise by many, including possibly you guys?

Are you honestly not worried about Arsenal catching you? They are 8 points back with a game in hand. So if they win it, then just 5 points. Plus the football they play is beautiful, more so than yours maybe?

But I guess 5 points ahead of you and with not playing as pretty football, I'm not worried about you catching us.

Look at Drinkwater's face when he celebrated Ulloa's penalty on Sunday. Our lads don't need to be pumped up or reminded what's at stake. What they need is to remain calm and confident in their own ability. I think Ranieri is playing it well. I wish he would come round to my house and give me a team talk before games these days, might prevent me nearly dying every week.
