Players From Relegated Clubs

Tim Krul might be an interesting pick up.

Newcastle won't be able to satisfy 3 keepers so may be willing to sell Krul - and with him needing to establish himself again after being injured for the season he may be willing to come in as 'competition' in the goalkeeping department.

Few rumours that I read, saying Ajax might go for Krul as a replacement for Cilessen if a big club comes in for him.

Statistically speaking the only players worth taking are Amavi, Gueye, Klose, Brady and Andros Townsend. The rest are average at best

The players you listed aren't any better.

Amavi was rated the best left back in Ligue 1 last season and highly rated before joining Villa. He has been unlucky with injuries this year

Gueye is a poor mans Kante but a damn lot better than a lot of defensive midfielders in this league (only Kante and Dembele are better in fact)

Klose took time to adapt to the Prem but in his last 5 games prior to injury, he got 3 man of the match awards (playing with a different partner in each of those games) and he helped Norwich keep clean sheets against Man City and West Brom (a hard task for a relegating team). It is no surprise that once he got injured Norwich failed to keep another clean sheet and only won 3 out of the last 18 points available

Robbie Brady - a player scouted by Steve Walsh (in Walshy we trust) from the United academy for Hull, can play anywhere on the left and has made 54 key passes for Norwich this year from both LB and LW (Albrighton 62, Fuchs 45 for comparison)

Townsend has 4 goals and 2 assists from 12 starts (13 appearances) and is probably the most on form player out of the 3 clubs that relegated. He has got an England callup for his performances especially under Benitez and you can say he deserves it over a lot of other English wingers (although it was a shocker not to pick Albrighton) if we only look at form (which we should)

Your not looking at the bigger picture, stats don't tell you everything. Amavi and Brady are good attacking fullbacks. ATTACKING Fullbacks. We prefer defensive minded fullbacks. Amavi & Brady especially are suspect in defense.

Klose cost Norwich 9million pound which they will want to recoup, or sell for even more. Surely there are better alternatives out there that are cheaper?

Gueye, whilst he has impressive interception & tackling stats, he won't be able to offer the same ball carrying capabilities that Kante does. Think about it, we already have 3 defensive minded cm's in, Kante, Amartey & James. (4 if you include Inler). Do we need another?

Townsend, I wouldn't mind seeing here. But with us having 4 wingers already, I'd like to see us sign a more versatile winger, I.e Musa.

Our scouting system mainly use stats to decide who we try and sign.....

I am only really saying that if we HAD to take at least one player from the relegating clubs, then the only players worth looking at imo are ones listed (looking at stats)

Overall I would only take Amavi and Gueye from the list

Just because I like the convo though.....

Brady has played 14 games last year as a left Winger (only 4 less than at left back) and has had success there with goals and assists and like mentioned previously, the number of key passes he has made is in around that of Fuchs and Albrighton so you cannot write him off for a position further up the field.

Amavi has shown class and is young so COULD be an exciting prospect for the future. They all say fullbacks get better defensively with age anyway (just look at the age of ours).

Whilst I agree that our play requires defensive fullbacks I think it is difficult to categorically rule out that these players could not adapt to our system. Neither Norwich or Villa play like we do and so where you might have seen defensive frailties, the players might have in fact been the victims of tactical failures or support players not tracking back (think Mahrez and Simpson in our winless run before Simpson got caught and sentenced last year) . This could apply to a lot of players I know, I am just keeping an open mind

Of course there are better alternatives to Klose but he is the best central defender from the relegated sides imo. He is only being mentioned because there was a fair argument that Norwich could have stayed up with him in the team and his loss was definitely detrimental. If we HAD to take one central defender from a relegated team, for me it is him.

Your argument against Gueye is the biggest one for me.

Gueye has completed more successful dribbles 67 to NG's 46 and almost the same number of key passes 27 to NG's 29. He is not as good as NG by a long stretch but there are not many better in Europe that COULD do the same job if NG left.

Also we have not yet seen Amartey playing in that position (to the best of my knowledge, the Don may not fancy him there. Inler does not fit our philosophy (looking at the bigger picture)

With Townsend, I think he is probably the best attacking player from the relegating clubs, 5 months ago I would have said Wijnaldum but prior to Spurs he has been invisible since Xmas. I would also say he is the best English player to look at from the relegated clubs.

I do agree however that we do not need him though.and Musa would be a younger better option.

Silly.

You can argue the players that have been relegated this time won't cut it and that's a different discussion but to write players off just because they've gone down lacks insight. Michael Owen had his hands on the PL trophy not long after going down with Newcastle. Sure you wouldn't say no to Andy Carroll and he was on the same squad, as was Milner. Kieran tripper has been back up at Spurs this season after being relegated last term. There are a ton of examples you could find, We're gonna need a few players that don't cost 10 million plus to bolster the squad we are in 5 comps next season.

You're not counting the community shield in that 5 are you?! haha.
