davieG Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 Leicester City have been crowned Premier League champions and can now spend the summer anticipating their Champions League debut next September. Claudio Ranieri's side will go straight into the group stages, and - as title winners - will be the top seed for their group. While the manager has considerable experience in Europe's top tier, the same can't be said for his players. After the astonishing domestic season we have just experienced it is almost impossible to know just how the Foxes will get on in Europe. So, we enlisted the help of our friends at Football Manager and they have run a simulation for us. Below are the results... Getty Premier League champions Leicester City Leicester are drawn in Group B alongside Atletico Madrid, Dynamo Kiev and APOEL. The Foxes finish in third place in the group after losing both ties against Atletico and the away tie against Kiev. They do pick up a draw at the King Power Stadium against Kiev and they do the double over APOEL to finish the group stage on seven points, two points off of second place. In the Europa League last 32, Ranieri’s men are drawn against Ligue 1 side Lille. The Foxes emerge victorious 4-2 on aggregate to progress to the last 16 of the tournament. They are drawn against Spanish opposition in the form of Athletic Bilbao. A nervy first leg in Spain ends 1-1 with Drinkwater cancelling out Aduriz’s opener. The second leg doesn’t go Leicester’s way as they can only draw 2-2 on the night to send Bilbao through on away goals. Jamie Vardy is the club’s top scorer in Europe for the 2016/17 season with five goals across the Champions League and Europa League. Riyad Mahrez is the best performing player in Leicester’s European campaign with an average rating of 7.22 Drinkwater and Mahrez provide the joint highest amount of Leicester’s assists across the European competitions with three apiece.
brockmyster Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 I actually wouldn't mind that in all honestly, decent little run wouldn't have shown ourselves up in Europe and Madrid and Cyprus could prove to be good little away days
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 If we didn't progress in that CL group I'd be pissed. Should be coming second there. Although wouldn't actually want a shitty day out in Kiev!
VLC86 Posted 16 May 2016 Posted 16 May 2016 What a shit group that would be... You have obviously never been to Madrid or Kiev.
