fuchsntf Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Forget the poor fighting cock forum, its no measuring stick, they have far better forums. All mute points really, but it does make one think. If we had come 2nd or 3rd, would we still be satisfied, or would the disappointment have been so massive. Why, did Spurs implode, after Chelsea.??? where did the Leicester players get their strength from and not wilt under pressure.? Thoughts..can Spurs forget this season, is it a real test now for Pocchetino.? Lets say, we keep all players, can Claudio, or themselves hold onto that dream/belief. Is that special unknown link still there to get us chasing top 2 / top 5 again. Could Spurs or Leicester just fall away, only top 10 hope! ? Are both teams facing completely 2 new successfull eras. I know a few Spurs fans, they are obviously pssed off, but have no hate towards city.Very upset over their own side and their last 2 results. On the Arsenal/Spurs rivalry, they are split, they wanted the league, some said they werent interested what Arsenal did, it was Spurs who lost the impetus of their own accord. Leaving crap forums out of it, how are the Spurs fans coming over you may know. Will we be 2 comparable sides again next season.. Could the other top clubs, be going through a negative wind of change, will the experts, pundits get it so disastrously wrong again. Leicester, Soton, Spurs, W, Ham, liverpool, are we the new kids on the block??
4everfox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 We will finish above Spurs again next season. Forget about that football club, we are above them now. We have bigger fish to fry.
Bayfox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Not sure I can cover all points, but I will add a few of my opinions. 2nd or 3rd would still have been immense, however after sitting top since Jan I think there would have been a huge deflation of our feelings. But in the cold light of day we would still have had champions league football to look forward too, although the group may have been a whole lot trickier. Spurs imploded due to the sheer pressure we and their own fans applied to them, we kept picking up those 1-0s and they couldn't get closer, they they had their own fans giving it "we're coming for you" During our 90 mins we backed and supported the team and the players, only after games finished such as at palace did we get a little carried away with the whole winning the league thing. Also I think our players are having the time of their lives, this was never meant to happen, it's not what the signed up for, so there was no pressure, spurs then slipped back into the whole finishing above Arsenal and that got to them as well. They just cracked. Maybe from the outside all those that seem to think we are nothing without Mahrez and Vardy learnt something as well, turns out when Kane stops scoring so do spurs, and without Alli they aren't all that good either? As for next season, I expect spurs could be around the top 4 for a few years, if they can use this, like we did watford and hold on to key players. As for us, I guess we just don't know, but if we can stave off big bids and hold onto the core of the team as well, why not have a crack at another top 4/6 and I really believe we will get out the CL group phase. Then who knows.
weller54 Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Spurs pay low wages.. Kane is on 50k a week and is the highest paid player! They have a huge investment to make in the new stadium therefore I can see them struggling to keep hold of their best players if the likes of Manchester United come knocking and offering Kane a HUGE wage increase! ...Can't see them finishing in the top 4 next season! Shame!
David Hankey Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 I guess at the start of the season and probably up until the New Year we would have been happy with 2nd or 3rd spot but after spending so long at the top finishing lower would have been a disappointment. The Spuds for all their bluster were never going to catch us and the fiasco at Chelsea proved they hadn't the stomach for a fight to the death. Whereas Leicester City quietly and confidently continued in their quest and ended the season on a 12 match unbeaten run, true title winning performances. As for next season I predict along with Arsenal we will end up above the Spuds!!
Crinklyfox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 Spurs have played some great football this season. To me it looks like the psychological impact of finally losing the race for the title caused them to crumble which denied them the second place they would otherwise have had. They'll be a threat again next year.
Richmondfox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 The points that Spurs fans and pundits/media praised on them was their downfall in the end. Youngest squad and best young manager. The players lost their heads when they had to stay calm and do a job and the manager has only one way of playing. He doesn't know how to shut a game down and see a 1-0 out. Nothing wrong with parking the bus at the end of the season if it wins the title. There was an article in the Guardian a few days ago about Pochettino's sides always falling away at the end of the season. He might be a bright young manager, that can buy in several 20m players, but he has a lot to learn about game management and pacing across the season. We have made a huge step up in every department and taken advantage of bigger teams not performing, or being able to perform against us, and won the league. Where as Spurs were the best footballing team according to their salty fans and pundits yet they somehow couldn't manage to win the league, only made small gains on last season and have had the advantage like us of the big clubs not turning up. Yet somehow when the 'natural order' is restored next season they are expected to challenge the top yet we will slip away? Top 6 - 8 and a quarter final CL for us.
EastAnglianFox Posted 17 May 2016 Posted 17 May 2016 It really annoyed me when the media and pundits pretty much had Tottenham nailed on to win all 4 remaining games and to pick up 12 points without shifting out of 3rd gear. Looking back, I'm glad they were so vocal in their predictions as I think that then shifted even more pressure onto Spurs to make it look as easy as the so called pundits predicted.
