Is the world as it is today putting you off having kids?

I never planned on having kids, and for much the same reasons that the OP advanced.

Then along came my little mistake, who I can honestly say has enhanced my life in a way that I wouldn't have believed possible.

Myself and the missis are both 42 and we both decided not to have children a while ago. .We don't regret it for a minute but it's costing me a fortune always doing stuff. I really think it would of been more cost effective having a few lol

Been trying for a while but it's no happening and starting to become a bit of an elephant in the room. Shits going to go down if it turns out one of us is impotent. Whoever it is will certainly end the relationship for the supposed good of the other party. If it's me I'll probably go off the rails a bit, start having coffee past midday, upgrading my phone before I really need to, that kind of thing.

I've never been that bothered by having kids but the prospect of not being able to have one has brought home how sad I would feel to be a middle aged and later an old man without a family, regardless of whatever other experiences might be available. I've already travelled the world anyway. Kids can do things too, they don't render you completely sedentary.

Would you not consider adoption, Moose?

Take it from an old git - if you've found someone you're happy with, it's worth hanging on to.

I'm pretty sure people with kids just like to try and convince everyone else they'll eventually want kids to try and convince themselves it's okay they just threw twenty plus years of their life away tbh.

Just reeks of "cant admit to myself that deep down i want kids". Clearly.

lol

To each their own. If you would make a bad parent then thank fook you decided not to have any.

To those who cant have kids but want to adoption is a great option. My elder brother and sister inlaw just went through the process and are in midst of settling in with their adopted children within the next several weeks.

I type this as my beautiful 1 year old daughter snuggles up on daddys chest to sleep :)

I don't believe that it's morally or ethically responsible to pass on your genetics beyond the rate of replacement at the current time. (2 kids per couple)

The world's biological and societal infrastructures aren't sustainably built, and further pressures might break those systems entirely.

There are a lot of people who have kids who shouldn't.

I find it very odd these days that people who have kids very early into there 20's, find it so bizarre that people would want to wait until they're at least 30 to have them. It's almost as if you're doing something wrong to them by not rushing into having them.

Nothing about the world today would deter me from having kids.

Kids have  faced survival problems of one kind or another since they first breathed on earth.

On a personal level I wouldn't have been without my kids for anything at all.

On a natural level kids ensure the survival of the species (not that there's any signs of the species diminishing) and both my experience and enquiries suggest there is a feeling of fulfillment for many.

The other thing about kids is that you never know the impact for good that they might make, even generations down the line .

For instance i recall playing squash at Cambridge University with a guy who had not many years previously performed the first European liver transplant and thinking "wow, what a signature for a life's work," but in fact it was just a milestone along a momentus way" .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_Yorke_Calne

Another acquaintance became the world F1 motor racing champion from virtually being a no-hoper. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Hunt

These are just exceptional examples among many massive achievers I've known but there are many more who are also exceptional in their way, but not so well known.

There really are some awesome people out there in an infinite number of fields and they're out there because people gave them life, sometimes at considerable sacrifice to themselves and not always when it was the most sensible thing to do.

Even now i'd love to have more kids. Can't imagine my wife being so enthusiastic though. Any signs of stirring and she sends me down the golf course! :D

Well put ...that man!!

Hope are the kids!!! Kids are the hope for our future born into us all.

We owe our past to give that hope to that future.

ONE does not throw in the towel, because others are trying their best to fuk it up.

Besides... of all those kids being born, ones gonna work sooner or later :)

I have done my lot, one left in every port, a couple begetted along the mountains and dales,

tiny footprints trodden in amazing foreign countries.Rivers crossed to keep the fluency of

The human path, Skys flown to hold an air of aspiration, forests forged to feed the dreams.

oh... nearly forgot, having sex to see what really happens next.

Then feeding of that knowledge, that we do despair knowing we wont be the one realising

the ' reason why'...But the trying is great.....innit !!!
