Is the world as it is today putting you off having kids?

This is kind of aimed at the younger people. But for me, the world is getting worse and worse, more and more terrorist attacks. A lot of nasty people around. Do I want kids to enter this world that is looking likely to end in 100 years or less? Not really.

Surely been worse what with 2 world wars, nuclear war stand offs the Irish problem all with considerably more and extreme poverty.

I consider myself lucky to have been able to raise a family in relatively safe times but there's  always been something going on.

Work and home environmenth are very much safer to some extent it is dictated by where your focus is.

There are too many people on the planet. We need a new plague.

Before we had our children, my wife was a little apprehensive about bringing kids into this world. I told her that if all the good people stopped having kids, the world is only going to get more biased towards the less respectable elements in society. Especially as they all pop out 5+ kids regularly.

In your day to day life how often are you affected by the way the "world is today"? You hear about terrorist attacks on the news because they're big events but how often do they happen? Not that often really and yes it's a terrible thing but it's not as if we live in a state of war where your children are in danger everyday. I've just had a brief look on my phone at the biggest cause of death in the uk and its coronary heart diseas which I think is mostly avoidable.

Advances in medicine, politics and the general quality of life has improved and its safer than ever - you hear of terrorist attacks, diseases and the like because it's a disruption to the safe equilibrium.

Too old now and I have enough nephews and nieces. But if I was in the position I do not think world problems would be a barrier. I would consider it and ask myself the same question. But my main concern would be to raise them right. Have respect for others not be bigoted, homophobic etc. I would raise them as Secular/humanists but not in a forceful way. If they took an interest in religion I would encourage them to study all religions and related philosophies so to have a broader view.

At the end of the day you can only protect them so much. You have no control on how others raise their children. You and I may think them bad parents but they may think the same of us.

It's a mad mad World. We are here but a millisecond of the universe's existence so have to make the most of it. With or without kids.

Having kids is the best thing you can ever do. You can't live your life on what ifs.

Echo what Webbo says.

You see life in a different aspect when you have kids. Trying to teach them what you didn't know rather than what you do.

The World ain't THAT bad a place!

I don't think the world needs more replicas of me.

Sometimes kids have the best solution to the worlds problems. Life is so much simpler through an inocent's eyes.

Just having kids is putting me off having kids.

Just like to clarify I don't have kids, I mean just seeing kids in real life makes me not want kids.

I just hope my two young kids will grow up and help to make a positive difference and change this fvcked up world we live in. I don't envy them having to navigate their way through the chaos and uncertainty of the next few decades though. With all the technological advances they now have, they'll never have the innocence and simplicity I enjoyed in the 70's and 80's.

The world's actually getting better.

Poverty, especially extreme poverty, is falling and large scale as well as small scale violence is decreasing. It's just that more of the bad stuff is visible to us because of technology. Don't let the news get you down.

kids are irritating little shits, get a dog and you can sell it on ebay when you're bored

I put both my kids on eBay for a Buy it Now price of £9.99, but no takers. So I relisted them as an auction starting at 99p each. No bids as yet but I'll keep you posted....

Make sure you have given the correct description or they might be sent back as faulty.
