What does 'deserved to win' even mean. Sounds like the bollocks spurs fans spout

Every football fan in the World must be a Spurs fan then.

But they didn't.

Ego got in the way of winning.

yeah i know they didn't, but they deserved to

I never use that terminology, it's idiotic.

Yes, they deserve to fail in this tournament.

Ronaldo, what a con artist on the international stage.

Fair play to him though, he doesn't give up does he. Once one comes, he'll get a few won't he. Probably get a trick against Hungary.

most capped portuguese player ever, 58 international goals, finals and semi finals or major tournaments, con artist. incredible.

Why are some people acting like they've never heard or used the phrase 'deserved to win?'

I have, far too many times. It's an idiotic comment, with idiotic reasoning, it makes no sense. You failed to achieve the aim of the game more times than the other team, so you got what you deserved.

Failed at the 2002 U-17 European Championship

Eliminated in the first round of the 2004 Summer Olympics

Lost the EURO 2004 final in his native Portugal

Lost in the 2006 WC semi-final against France

One goal at EURO 2008, eliminated in the quarter-finals

Failed to score a single goal in the 2010 WC qualifying stages

Eliminated in the 2010 WC Best of 16 round

Extremely wasteful in the 2012 EURO semi-final against Spain

Eliminated in the 2014 WC group stages (although in his defense, he was carrying an injury)

58 goals scored over the course of 13 years - that's a bit more than four goals a year. Hmm...

If he scores then he's the first ever to score in four European Championships.

Why are you talking about when the team were knocked out.

Cruyff, Van Basten, Platni ... Never won World Cups.. Still among the greatest players ever.

It's arbitrary, depends on where one's sitting.

In football you have to earn it, and you do that by scoring more goals than opponent. If not... it's just a game of missed opportunities, bottled chances etc. At least that's how I look at things. If they gave points for who's more "deserving" Tottenham could as well win the league, because according to some of the press, they "deserved it" ;)

Yet you fail to mention the good things? Example, goals he scored in 2012 to get them through the group and into that semi final. Or the hat trick he scored against Sweden to get them to the 2014 World Cup, dragging them there on his own. And in 2004, when he was 19 and he was the best player at the tournament, but he's a con artist cos his team lost in the final...

Not played too well last couple of games but on another day he'd have 3 tonight and 1 or 2 in the first game. Con artist lol

Luck is not real yet football fans still say "lucky" and "unlucky". Just the same as why we use "deserved" or "they didn't deserve that".

I take it some of you won't be claiming we "deserved" to win a game next season despite us being the better team.

As for the press saying Spurs deserved the title. When? I must have missed that because we got all the plaudits we deserved. (Is deserved correct in this context?).

Take this one for example. It's obvious that this Guardian journo is looking at the whole season from Tottenham supporter's point of view. It's even in the headline.  "Tottenham win the title" , Leicester are but a "fairytale" for him.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/apr/11/tottenham-title-promise-watchable-leicester-mauricio-pochettino

Obviously it's his right, everyone supports his own team. it's just a matter of definitions and as I said, arbitrary. You say they deserved it, I say they didn't. They should prove it - by scoring a goal more than opponents, thats all.

As for me, I'm as biased as one can be. Even if the opponents have 99% possession and 20 shots on goal to 1 and Leicester somehow nicks a win, I will say that without a shadow of a doubt that Leicester deserved it. Simply because we scored more goals than them.

Unless it's a "Hand of God" or something similarly unfair that wins it, then I guess it's debatable.
