lcfcrinaldi Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 Hi guys! I have an Alfa Romeo Mito Cloverleaf and the time has come in my life, where I need to get a car that has a higher MPG than 30... After looking around on Auto trader and the likes. My main target is an Audi A3 or if failing, then a VW Golf. Both 2L diesel and 13 plate or above. I've seen a few cars that have taken my fancy, but when looking at the dealer reviews on Facebook, it's hard to tell who to trust. Garages like V12 Sports & Classics in Hinckley, Motorline Direct in Shepshed and Braunston crossroads garage are examples of garages that all have pretty mixed reviews. Anyone got any advice as regards to this?
Tuna Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 If you are undecided about which car you'd like, you should pop over to Available Car in Castle Donington. All the cars there are unlocked and ready to view with no hassle from pokey salesmen. They've got about 1,000 cars onsite so you'll find plenty of A3's and Golf's there. I've gone there a couple of times myself just to look at the cars and have a nose around them unmolested, with no intention of buying. Once you've decided which car you'd like you should find the process a little easier. As for deciding where to buy, I've dealt with Evans Halshaw a few times and their customer service is absolutely awful, they insist on a mandatory 'admin fee' of £99 and when pushed they'll tell you its for supposed history checks on the car. What a load of bollocks! And that's after they've tried to sell you the useless GAP cover, the extended warranties, the diamondbrite, the service plan...hey man I just want the car! Best companies I've dealt with have been family run franchise dealers such as Troops in Leadenham and Murketts in Huntingdon. They appreciate your business much more and make the buying process all the more easy. I bought an Astra from Troops a few years ago with no deposit put down, all done on a handshake as it should be. It's now done 103,000 miles with no problems at all. Unfortunately franchise dealers tend to be slightly more expensive than your independant garage but the peace of mind that it has been supplied and maintained by a main dealer is worth it. Check the service history, if it's been maintained and serviced as it should be and given you are looking for 3 years old or newer you shouldn't really have any probs.
Will1981 Posted 7 August 2016 Posted 7 August 2016 try Measham car auctions it may be a bit risky but you will get a much better deal than any of the dealers as most of them buy cars from there and put their mark up on them.
Foxhateram Posted 9 August 2016 Posted 9 August 2016 Don't know if there are any in the Midlands but Bristol Street Motors have been ace for my wife and I.
Wymsey Posted 9 August 2016 Posted 9 August 2016 Derek Curtis Cars and Granby Car Sales both decent on Aylestone Road.
Parafox Posted 14 August 2016 Posted 14 August 2016 I've used D J Whyman on Aylestone Road 3 times in succession and found them to be above standard. I have specified a make and model package to them and they have found the car for me.

It was three years ago now (all paid off) and I've still got the same car that is running smoothly but from my memory I did get it a bit cheaper. He worked out the finance and told me the repayment fee I told him that I couldn't afford that (I was being honest I don't tend to be someone that tries to haggle down the cost of things) so I told him what I could afford, he went away into an office (whether that was just to pretend to speak to someone for show or if he was talking to someone I don't know) and came back and said that they could do it for that price. Same repayment years, same deposit same everything. About £40 a month cheaper

When I went to Available car they refused to haggle or move on any of their prices, or the part-ex value of my car. But to be honest, I've been told by a lot of people that they are just for the people that have more money than sense and are just looking for a quick deal. So I'll leave them be.
