Ashtons Journey

Recommended Posts

Well today he has woke up with Chicken Pox. Poor kid. He will scratch them to death.

Met his teachers yesterday, went really well. Ashton went to a stay and play Tuesday at his new school and hated it, the kids in the class were all mobile and noisy and he was petrified.

Luckily they have moved him into a new class with other kids who aren't as mobile and a little quieter. Much better for him. Im a little relieved

Germany getting knocked out the World Cup and Ashton standing. Doesn't get much better than that lol

Could've been Brazil too but we shouldn't be greedy :D

Yesterday I walk into the lounge to find Ashton stood up in front of the TV leaning on the TV stand. He has been getting up on his knees and planting one foot down ready to stand for ages but has never had the strength to actually push up on his leg and stand.

Well I find him on both legs wondering what he was supposed to do next. He must have stood himself up as the wife was in the kitchen and hadn't moved him. Finally he has done it on his own for the first time. We have been stuck at this stage for about 18 months trying to get him to stand on his own.

A massive step closer to getting him to walk unaided.

Very sad day yesterday. Ashton had both his leavers party at Menphys Nursery and STEPS. He has grown so much in the last 2 and a half years and a lot is down to the hard work his teachers did with him. The photo is of his journey through STEPS.

Now after his summer break it’s off to big school. Looking forward to seeing what the school will do to Ashton’s development

Been a while, hope all is well :)

Thanks, I appreciate you thinking about Ashton.

He is fine, been so busy over the summer holidays. He has loved not having to get up.

We had a lady from the NHS assess our house to see if there were any aides we could benefit from, she is going to look at a chair for the shower, we replaced the bath with a walk in shower so washing Ashton isn't the easiest task.

This Saturday (before the match) we are going to Milton Keynes to a centre that specialises in Car Seats for kids with additional needs. Now he is getting bigger I think we need a special car seat, means going through the charity funding route again like we did with his bed. Can be a long process but if we get one it will make life much easier.

Health wise Ashton has been fine, no illnesses to report which is always nice.

We are also currently looking at getting funding for Ashton's nappies, we can have them on prescription which will save us a chunk each month.

He starts his school in 2 weeks, dreading the travelling for him. We found out he will be picked up at 7:45am. I hate the idea of him being on a bus for so long without me or his mum. I'm going to be a mess. I just hope that the 7:45am pick up is just because its his first day and the time will move a little later. Don't want him on a bus for an hour before he even starts each day of school. He will be shattered when he gets home.

My boy is growing up and yet is still totally dependent on others. Will take me a while to get used to his new school routine.

As I mentioned above we went to MK to look at car seats. Walked out £350 down after deciding to get a new car seat there and then. The specialist ones Ashton is not ready for yet as he doesn't meet the requirements through regulation but we were still able to buy an iso-fix car seat that swivels on its base. Makes it a little easier for the wife to get him in and out of the car which is the main reason we wanted a new seat.

On the way down there Ashton decided to bring up his Weetabix on the journey, sick all over his old seat. Luckily with buying a new one I didn't have to clean the old one (think that's what swayed me into buying the new one there and then lol) Took it straight to the tip before heading to the game.

Ashton is now watching tv happy as anything. Counting down the days until he starts school.

Yowzers! £350 for a car seat!

It's a lot of money but if it makes your life easier then I suppose it is worth it.

Does he start school this year?

A lot of money but the wife is only small so is struggling to carry Ashton. The swivel makes it that bit easier for her so money well spent. Also Ashton can only use it for another 9cm in height before he needs the next size which we can then sell it anyway.

Yes he starts at the end of August. He will be picked up and dropped off as well so it will be really weird to begin with. I'm dreading it tbh.

My daughter also starts High School on the same day so its all happening for me and the wife. Feel old now.

A very emotional morning. My little boy was picked up and taken to his first day at his special school. The lady who escorted him on the bus called to say he loved the bus journey. Many tears were shed. Even my daughter cried her little heart out. She has now also started high school so it’s been a big change today. Just hope Ashton likes the school, teachers and other pupils.

He is the first to be picked up in the mornings ( at 7:40) and last to be dropped off in evenings (they think between 4-4:30) so Ashton will be so tired bless him. No doubt he will try to have a sleep in class lol. Can’t wait for him to get home

Hope the parents evening went well and you were able to raise some concerns... i can just imagine him on the horse, sounds just brilliant :)

Yea it went well thanks, it has improved since so all is good at the moment.

Ashton is still at the same point. Just really frustrating but hey ho what can you do lol.

Looking forward to the xmas break so I don't have to get him up so early for school.

We are now in the process of getting Nappies free. In the middle of an assessment so will see how that progresses. He also gets new boots some point in the next few days.

Waited 10 weeks for an appointment which consisted of measuring his feet and choosing the boots. Surely I could have measured them and chosen them without waiting 10 bloody weeks  Boils my piss how from start to finish our experience with the NHS is beyond a joke. Hence why we spend so much money going private.

Ashton had a sickness bug last week, that was fun for him. Had the whole week off school though so he was happy lol

Coming up to Xmas and Ashton's birthday, not got him anything for a present as he just doesn't need anything. He only plays with the toys he knows and he needs no clothes. Could ask family for money for his private stuff but I see that as a present for me more than him as it relaxes my wallet lol He is so hard to buy for.

Im sure he will still be spoilt lol.

Your posts always give me a renewed sense of perspective mate and serve as a reminder that I need to shut the fvck up moaning and be grateful instead.

Best wishes to the little fella and hope you have a wonderful family Christmas together
