davieG Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 Premier League B teams and 'non-English' clubs will not be included in plans to reform the structure of English league football, according to the EFL. In May, it was revealed that the EFL could expand to include a fifth tier by 2019-20, with 100 teams over the five divisions. EFL clubs met to discuss the proposals for the first time on Thursday. The final proposals will be voted on by all clubs in June 2017.
filbertway Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 I imagine the reaction to the freak version of the league trophy killed this idea.
Voll Blau Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 Also rules out the Old Firm entering and winter breaks in the lower leagues. Thank fvck for a bit of common sense for once. http://www.efl.com/news/article/2016/premier-league-b-teams-ruled-out-following-first-phase-of-consultation-3322371.aspx
Wymsey Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 The league structure doesn't need amending. Fine as it is. I think the length of the transfer window needs adjusting as this summer's felt long. If these league reform ideas are concerned with getting more English youngsters etc a chance to play, in view of being good enough for the national side, maybe the Grassroots needs a good look at still.
Corky Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 Good, thankfully we are keeping the one totally great thing about the game- individual clubs and a sensible pyramid.
Fox92 Posted 22 September 2016 Posted 22 September 2016 The only league that needs restructuring is the Conference. Needs to be made professional, or at least a new league that's professional. There's too many professional teams in the Conference now.
stripeyfox Posted 23 September 2016 Posted 23 September 2016 The league system is generally fine as it it. The only thing I think could be improved would perhaps be a reduction in the number of teams in each level. Maybe a Championship, L1, L2 and L3 with 20 teams each? As long as promotion / relegation remains between each level then the integrity of the structure remains. Even better would be if the entire Prem/Champ/L1/L2/Conf were all united under the same organisation rather than the Premier League and Football League split out with a fairer disribution of money but I guess that isn't very likely to happen!
purpleronnie Posted 23 September 2016 Posted 23 September 2016 I like the idea of 5 divisions with 20 teams. 46 league games is way too many and a lot of the conference sides are full time anyway. I wonder if they'll stick with the calling it league 1, league 2 etc... It still irks me that the 4th division is called league 2.

Was trying to explain to my 8 year old about how Premier League used to be Division One and League One was the Division Three etc. His response - "why don't they just call them Division 1,2,3 and 4?" I had no response...
