Because the alleged sexual abuse story has only just broken and is of a sensitive nature not just legally speaking, while this topic is about empowering the LGBT community within football and supporting those who feel that they can't "come out" for whatever reason.

This topic has so many more posts in it because you've contributed about a third of those posts yourself and about a third of the rest are responses to you, including two pointing all this out to you.

Which is funny because I personally think that if you make stupidly overblown statements like this and put your faith in pathetic laces campaigns then you're part of the problem.

Seriously it's embarrassing that post , what has the gay community got to do with football and why empower them ?

Football is sport not a political movement , we don't empower Muslim fans or blind fans or American fans or hetrosexual fans

why do gay people need to feel empowered by football ? honestly the Internet is a dangerous medium for some people to use.

I blame our players wearing the rainbow laces for how shite they played today. There can be no other explanation..

It's 2016, and there's no better opportunity to make everyone from all backgrounds/personality preference feel like everyone else in supporting their football club - certainly the powerful presence of social media and also at a time when people (well, some it seems at least) are beginning to realise respecting one another in society is required for everyone to move forward together and not leave anyone behind and feel vulnerable and unhappy in feeling victimised in what they want to do in their spare time.

How did you go from this:

Coming out can still be a big deal to individuals though so I don't think it's fair to begrudge them that. In many cases it's extremely courageous - a friend of mine is a teacher and she had a 14 year old student come to her for advice because his parents are devoutly religious and have said they'd rather he was dead than gay because of what was written in their obscene and stupid little book. That's the sort of person that prominent gay footballer would be a great role model to.

I don't think anyone is trying to force anyone out of the closet - "outing" someone against their will or consent is definitely the wrong way to go about it. I do however see it as an attempt to improve the sport to make it a more accepting environment, which is definitely getting there - the Pride supporters clubs are a big step forwards.

The main problem I can see is the media attention they would get. I doubt there are many that would want all scrutiny from the press about their private life when all they want to do is play football.

In less than 24 hours?

As I said in my original post, it's not necessarily about the footballers themselves coming out - it's about the LGBT community and the wider influence it would have.

Like a prominent footballing role model for the 14 year old British child who, if he were to come out to his family and wider Muslim community, would be doing so at the risk of his life

Go and look at our Facebook page now, there are hundreds of (presumably) Algerians bombarding the club's Rainbow posts with vomit/angry emojis, pleading with Slimani and Mahrez to leave the club, proclaiming their disgust at the club's stance with Stonewall - even a couple of comments quite close to death threats. These sorts of people that are the exact reason we should be standing loudly and proudly with Stonewall in stamping this shit out. Given the rise in our profile recently I think we have a duty to do this on behalf of everyone whose sexuality puts them at risk of persecution and murder in their own communities and countries (which is currently millions of people).

This. Why do you have to act like the world owe you an apology for you being gay. If you gay. you gay. As long as you keep to your self ( like every other human in this world) it is your life and I will not be the one to judge you after you die . I don't get it. People could be campaigning for cancer. Refuges. World hunger. Racism. Natural disaster... Etc. But they chose this sensitive topic. Smh.

Mate what the feck have Algerians on Facebook got to do with English premier league footballers being forced out of closets  by a neoliberal agenda to agitate where there is no problems ?  Muslim and predominantly Black countries are very intolerant of homosexuals , but they also don't attend much football here...... so it's irrelevant

algerians hate gays , so do many gay men hate gays so much so they mass murder them , muslims hate some other Muslim so they slaughter them , Cristians hate some other Cristians so they slaughter them

humans do despicable things

outing or "empowering" non existent gay footballers is surely the least important global issue that we could be getting involved with

and the whole laces thing is really a clever clever marketing ploy by a charity to raise funds ....what does the head of stonewall earn ???

Equality and acceptance the stonewall laces was about  , well where is the inequality and Unaccepting behaviour ?? all a load of cobblers , just another pointless charity looking to raise money and profile for the directors to have bigger cars and salaries

The perception from some in the LGBT community is that Stonewall cannibalises much of the funding available to charities in the sector, while failing to work cooperatively with smaller operations or those with different remits"

sounds like a right bunch of greedy feckers !!!!

I ask the question again what does the head of stonewall earn ?

Maybe she should have sorted the Dorchester hotel real issues rather than invent issues in the press about football being homophobic   !

If your going to castigate me chief do some bloody homework on your trump card !

Yeah. Call my post ignorant. For what really?. Is it because I said the world has more important issues to attend to. Like actual people Being killed because of their color/religion/background  Or kids dying because they don't have food to eat. Or a place to sleep the night in... Or many other examples of things that all people can get behind. Despite of their religion or background. But NOOO!!!!!!. Yeah. I am the bad guy for getting my priorities right. Because why worrie about other kids being killed. Tortured. Starved to death when you can talk about little Timmy crying because other kids made fun of him for wearing makeup

The fact that you think that The Premier League have come up with the rainbow laces idea to kill homophobia dead is actually laughable.

Coming out of the closet shouldn't be a big deal. I would go as far as to say it should be deemed a basic human right to express your sexuality. The laces idea can only make it that little bit easier for those who are gay.

The fact there you ard your ignorant mate kicking up a stink about something that can literally only be a good thing is why you're getting flack.

How does this affect you in the slightest? Why does it worry or annoy you?

Because the Premier League have never done anything to combat racism or homelessness have they? Are you suggesting homophobia is less important?

Do you realise that there are people in this world that are starved, tortured, killed and left homeless because of their sexuality?

By the way, it's "worry" lol lol
